Ngl Claudia and Louis were on some crazy shit for even staying in Paris after they found out that killing their maker and making a young vampire was like an instant death sentence. Louis was even crazier for not leaving when he got threatened like multiple times to leave or he'd get killed. I'm not brave enough to stay in enemy territory even if they're the only group of vampires on earth, idk man I don't want a community that badly 😭I'd like go to Asia or somewhere else maybe there'd be non insane vampires that don't want to kill me there.

"shock value over story" is the crux of the issue for season 3, and it's breaking my fucking heart, man.

the creators (and some of the cast) had the audacity to call the first 2 seasons boring, to reduce it to "two guys in a room talking." two guys in a room talking produced some of the best television i have ever seen.

daniel was challenging louis at every turn. meanwhile here there's no pushback for lestat and no real development. i get we're inside the head of a very unwell person, and i didn't expect everything to be tied up in a neat bow (far from it--the first book was better for being split into 2 parts even if it wasn't the original intent), but again my biggest problem is i'm not seeing any story. no development of the characters we got to know from louis' POV for two seasons. i'm seeing....music videos and incest and racism played for shock value. important dynamics (dm, loustat reconnecting between ep 5 and ep 6) are implied or referenced in a few lines, often offscreen.

i hate saying this because the books have helped me to understand and love lestat as the complex character he is, but if i was a show-only fan i'd be....so lost as to why i should care about this guy. if this was supposed to be a season that explains why lestat is the way he is, i've gotten very little of that with the exception of gratuitous imagery of his abuse at the hands of his mother.

We’ll be in hell together after all.” and “Because I am a coward. And I love you too much to let you go.” you can just put away the creative for this one and put it in the script verbatim yeah it’ll be great okay

there are these anons spitting bars about the antiblackness on the show/in the fandom and i really wish they were posting bangers like this on their main blogs bc "we don't even have well-written racism anymore" and "louis, whose race is pimp" are gonna permanently enter my lexicon wrt snappy ways to criticize these antiblack writers for their stereotypically racist choices

The number of times Louis was called a pimp this last season was insane. And from Lestat! Lestat, whose biggest issue with Louis's New Orleans business was that it tied him to his human life when he should move on and be a vampire. Louis feels guilt about it. I've never seen any evidence that Lestat cared. The racism from obliviously racist characters isn't even in character 😭

Side note: I loved the s2 Armand/Nicki/Lestat scene. I really hoped we were going to get more with their whole dynamic.

iwtv season 4 is the one situation where i would be ok with using the unreliable narrator excuse to do a lazy retcon of the entire previous season where they're just like yeah lestat made all that up. crazy right. anyway let's get back to what really matters (ten vampires forced to sit around a table and listen to anne rice redhead #4 tell a long ass story about ritual cannibalism)

something that has particularly irked me about tvl discourse is the implication that people who disliked the way armand is characterized in the finale are just woobifiers who can’t handle that armand is evil. like, is the fact of an act being evil itself justification enough to have armand do it? is one evil act roughly equivalent to another with no accounting for temperament or motivation? are there not gradations to evil? i wonder if anyone’s ever said anything about that

ok, so, something that has been bothering me is that there is something ominous about the park bench scene and whenever anyone talks about it in a way that acknowledges that it’s ominous i end up being like ‘what? no. that’s either not what happened or is kinda cute.”

but i’ve figured it out. armand is setting louis up for failure. he’s not doing it on purpose but armand is traumatized and needs impossible things to feel safe and louis is taking responsibility for armand’s feeling of safety. and they both want that dynamic so bad. but it’s like… that’s not possible. their romance is doomed by trauma from the start.

and then you get down to the thing that assad said about armand’s relationship with marius being complicated because that is the last time that armand felt safe. but he wasn’t safe. and armand knows he wasn’t safe. but he can’t acknowledge that fully. it would be too much.

and that ties into the point i’ve seen a lot of people make about armand trying to cast louis as marius, and i’ve always been like ‘yes but not like that?’ but struggled to articulate what i meant. but this is it. armand is trying to cast louis as marius but as the fantasy version of marius who is armand’s protector and can do no wrong. and that person has never and will never exist. and armand knows that but is powerless to do anything about it.
