Sonja Vulpes Artist Ljubljana, Slovenia Sonja Vulpes (real name Sonja Grdina) was born in 1986 in Slovenia. In 2011 she finished the study of Art Pedagogy at Faculty of Education - University of Ljubljana. She is an emerging visual artist working in the fields of printmaking, drawing and tattooing. Sometimes she releases zines. Since 2014 she is 1/2 of 585 ZINES, a publishing collective which issues zines in very limited editions. Bittersweet is a story about pleasant and happy on one side and painful and sad on the other. A story about the feelings of longing for something, incompleteness, fun, joy, and fulfilment at the same time. The motif in the artwork series is a female figurative, which is also a portrayal and the personification of the artist herself. The figures with a grotesque expression who look comically distorted and a bit ugly, depict bittersweet pieces of her personal life; bittersweet smiles, bittersweet memories, bittersweet self-perception, and bittersweet feelings. 

Graphic prints and drawings with expressive and playful aesthetics invite the viewer to enter the Bittersweet world through nudity, vulnerability, roughness, friskiness, simplicity, and intimacy. Nevertheless, the visual language is not narrative, meaning it gives the viewer the opportunity to make his own interpretations.
