just as much as Jesus is in the mountains and trees and people around us, He is also in the teeny-tiny flowers.
We humans have an obsession with vastness. It is a curious thing that you can stand on the edge of a canyon, eyes welling with tears, and feel that this vastness, this enormity, is somehow connected to a deeper part of who you are. We are a race that counts the stars, explores the seas, marvels at canyons painted rich with earth red. And why this awe of the immeasurable? Because in the mystery of vastness, we find comfort in knowing that our small and incapable bodies cannot even dream of containing it in our understanding, never mind creating it with our own two hands. And if we could not create this vastness, something else must have. Someone else must have. There must be more. We must be more. There is no black and white in this canyon, but there is gray and mystery and we don’t know what exactly, and somehow that is okay because it is beautiful and if beauty is at the heart of this broken, heartbreaking world, if beauty is here in this canyon, can be found in the seas, resides upon the stars, then there must be something good in it all. There must be light hidden here despite the darkness. I find your beauty in the vastness because you put the infinite in me too…and it all points back to you.
