Ralph nodded. “ I tried to learn a couple of times but people would just give up on me so my dance teacher for the longest time has been good old DDR.” He sighed. “ Your the first person to not give up on me and hey look at me now not stepping on your toes, I call that progress before you know it I’ll be able to turn almost as well as you.” He smiled over at Hans.
“well, i should hope i’m a little better a teacher than a dance-dance revolution machine.” hans said lightly enough -- if ralph had picked up on his mannerisms by now, he would know the other was teasing him a little fondly. considering he was an excellent dancer, one miles better than a computer, he hoped he’d been a little more than a decent teacher. “why did you want to learn to dance, anyway?”
Flynn definitely wasn’t a stranger to people giving him questioning looks. Could he blame them? It wasn’t like he was the poster child for honesty or anything. Given the fact that this guy looked like walking money, it was even more expected. The apprehension, the careful look, Flynn observed it all, not commenting right away. It wasn’t until question of his profession came up that he realized that, crap, maybe this wasn’t going to fly after all. “It’s lengthy, yeah. Quite the process. Watches are tiny and got a lot of parts, so there’s a lot to have to work with, you know? Gotta have the hands for it.” He replied, remaining vague, not answering the question directly. Opting for something that made him look a little less glaringly obvious, he eased back with a loose shrug of his shoulders, pulling off a false sincerity when he spoke again. “You don’t gotta let me take care of it for you, I just figured I’d be nice and offer. There’s a clocksmith over in Mysterii if you really wanna get official.”
“mmm.” hans hummed, eyeing the watch as though he was considering the offer. he was sure that the young man could probably see through it, but if the stranger was going to keep the facade up, so was he. and if it was a competition to see how long somebody could play pretend, hans knew he would win -- he’d been doing it all his life. “i’m a little familiar. who was your mentor there?” he asked curiously. “seems like quite the apprenticeship! do you still fix watches now? there’s got to be plenty of places in corona that would take you. it’s not too big an industry, from what i can gauge.” hans seemed to do charming and impressed and a hint smarmy just a little too well. if he were anyone else, he would have believed himself. “such an interesting industry. do you think it’d be a battery problem? it’s only six months old.”
Flynn liked to think he could read people pretty well. He hadn’t gotten close with too many, but he had spent enough casual time around enough different sorts of people to know a little. Which is why he kind of knew exactly the kind of guy who approached him about his watch. At first, he kinked a brow upward and spared a glance back over his shoulder, thinking maybe the other male was actually talking to someone else. “It’s just after four.” Flynn answered, having looked at the time on his phone not too long before. Flicking his gaze down to the watch in question, the male’s interest was piqued -that looked expensive. “I could take a look at that watch for you, maybe? I tinker with stuff all the time, I might be able to tell if it’s savable.” He noted -a lie, technically.
looking the young man up and down once, hans decided keeping a tight grip on his watch was the safest move, here. “perhaps i should take it to a professional.” hans mused, tilting his head a little, happy to test the waters here just slightly -- if his suspicions were correct, then he would be right not to trust the stranger. hans didn’t know a lot of people around here, and assumed, for the most part, they might all want to take off with an expensive watch, but this guy has untrustworthy written all over him. “are you a watchmaker?” he asked with what looked like a believable and genuine curiousity, “i don’t know anyone who’s gone through the extensive training. it’s a couple of years, isn’t it? the training?”
it was no secret angelica had an eye for all things expensive, being raised by charlotte and drew pickles afforded her certain luxuries others could only dream of. glancing down at hans’ watch, the blonde frowned slightly. “ is that a tudor? ” she asks, recognizing it as one her father owned. he was clearly a man with good taste. “ what a shame. ” angelica remarks with a shake of her head. “ i’m sure someone on this island is capable of fixing it, ” she suggests, glancing at her phone. “ it’s 3:05. ”
oh -- she was a girl after his own heart, evidently, recognising his watch like that. she must have had a taste for the finer things in life, much like himself, and grinning proudly ( and, perhaps, a little smugly ), hans nodded. “it is a tudor, actually. i have a few of them, actually -- this is what i call a land watch. i have other watches for sailing, but this... leather bands tend to be better for dryland things, i’ve found.” he explained, before adjusting his watch. “you’re a doll. thanks so much. hopefully somebody has some decent tools and skills here, right? i don’t want a cheap job.”
Sawyer didn’t have much to go by but when has that ever stop him. He was responsible for opening and closing the shop. It wasn’t hard but it was time consuming. There was a customer that always comes before closing time. Sometimes they buy something, otherwise they’re just browsing.
When he’s had a long day it gets a bit too much. He stretched his hands above his head, listening to the question. He pulled out his phone before answering “Time to get a new watch in that case.” Slightly then sighed out, “ 4:32.”
snorting quietly at the comment, hans really had to hold himself back from remarking about what a helpful piece of advice tossing the watch away was. he was asking somebody else for help, so he figured he might keep the biting sarcasm down a notch, and instead turned his snort into something of a chuckle.
“i suppose it might be,” he mused, before adjusting his watch. “is it really? i thought it was much earlier.” hans adjusted his watch carefully. “four thirty two. thanks. i didn’t realise how much of the day had gotten away from me.”
Boo smiled down at her phone, tapping away on an app she’d recently downloaded. The internet had been blowing up about how addictive the app was and how much it took over their lives; so naturally, she downloaded it. She looked up from her phone when she saw someone approach her. “Oh, sure.” She stopped the game and pulled down the menu of her screen. “12:25.” She said turning the phone towards him.
“Does it have the wrong time?” She asked referring to his watch.
spinning the small wheel next to the face of his watch, hans frowned -- he hadn’t realised it was as early as it was. he might have checked his phone, but the man didn’t see a point if he had a watch ( which, would be an easier sentiment to justify if the damn thing actually worked ). humming in response to indicate that he was listening, hans looked up at her briefly before continuing to adjust his watch.
“that is generally why one might ask,” he said nonchalantly, before sighing. “it’s been playing up and it’s not even that old. battery, i think.”
Ralph rolled his eyes as he heard him.” Well I would hope so, it would kinda suck if I was still at the level I started at and you are welcome. I’m trying to reduce the number of times I step on you, I though your toes needed a break.” he shook his head trying to concentrate on the dancing.” I do have a good teacher. Your the first person to ever get me to this point.”
allowing himself to chuckle a little at ralph’s comment, hans had to admit that he was getting better -- all thanks to him, of course, but nonetheless, there was an improvement. he didn’t think ralph would ever quite match his grace, but that might have been an unfair comparison, considering his years of training. “at least we’re getting somewhere. your turns could use some work, but it’s certainly an improvement. have you tried learning to dance before?”
Ralph looked down at their feet, trying his best not to step on Hans. It was kinda of amazing how the other had put up with him after so many failed attempts to teach him how to waltz but here they were again. Ralph wouldn’t admit this but he always found dancing to be fun to bad he just didn’t have the grace for it. A small smile spread on his lips as he looked at Hans. “Hey I’m getting a little better, don’t you think?”
hans really didn’t know how he’d ended up in this situation, but between his own current inner turmoil and ralph’s clumsy, unaware charm, he was suffering. the worst thing was that despite how bad ralph was, hans couldn’t help but want to get this right. he wasn’t going to fail at something else. “you’re certainly not at the base level you were at when we started.” it was a compliment. “my toes certainly hurt less, i suppose that’s something.”
hans was an expensive man. it was the way he liked to describe himself, and considering the price tag on his clothes and shoes and haircut and really, the price tag on his everything, it was no wonder he wore such a descriptor with pride. it was his own money he was spending, not his parents’, and though they’d given him quite the taste for the finer things in life, it didn’t mean he couldn’t accommodate his own needs, financially.
of course, on today of all days, his watch would have stopped. sighing and approaching the nearest person, the handsome man asked, “do you have the time? my watch is... ready to be tossed, i think.”
|| Get to know HANS ISLES who’s TWENTY-FOUR years old and works as a JOB UP TO PLAYER in town. He is from CARONA and is often times mistaken for DACRE MONTGOMERY while others say he reminds them of HANS from FROZEN. ||
Take a peek at his story:
Being the youngest of fourteen brothers wasn’t the easiest for Hans, especially if each one seemed to be doing far greater and better things with their lives while he just stowed about, always under one or the other’s limelight. He was kind, polite, did all that was asked of him from his father, always seeking his approval and council, though it never seemed to be enough. He tried his best not to think about it too much at first, hoping that if he kept doing what he was doing, his winnings would come eventually, perhaps he just had to work harder.
Once their mother had passed away, however, it threw the man into a loop. She was a good person and a great queen to their kingdom, always helping the youngest prince catch up to his brothers and father, always reminding him of his self worth. Now with her gone, though, he was at a loss. everything he was striving for in the past felt unimportant. His patience now thinning that he didn’t have her support. He grew angry with his father, always doing all that he could to make the older man proud, and for what? He never let them see it, of course; pasting on a smile and going on as if everything was fine to not only his family, but everyone else in Corona. And now with all these new residences and new changes that are making their way to the island, we can only imagine the storm that is coming.
How does he feel about others coming to Corona?

BIOGRAPHY:
✧ unlucky number thirteen. it’s no wonder nobody cared about hans, really -- his brothers would bully him and his parents would call it character building; his nannies would forget him and he would have to look after himself; he would be scolded for crying by everyone he knew, and he was once such an emotional little boy. hans learns from a very early age that he must fend for himself, for it is a dog eat dog world and being eaten alive is not an option.
✧ his family is rich, which gives him a lot of opportunities. it gave him connections for his career -- if anyone bothered to help him out, that is -- and it gave him the best education that money could buy, but it gave hans something more important: it allowed him to find his passion and make friends. his passion for sailing became a great skill, for which he has won awards for ( not that his family noticed ), and he found friends in his horses. he was allowed to try whatever he wanted, because it meant nobody was looking after him. as a result, hans has great skills in sailing, horse riding, and dance.
✧ but no matter what he does, no matter how hard he tries and how much effort he puts in, his family don’t care. his parents are uninterested and his siblings mock him for trying too hard. he doesn’t know what to do -- he becomes sad, his nerves worked up too easily, and he briefly considers seeing a therapist. he mentions it at fourteen years old to a brother he was closest to, which lead him to being humiliated by his whole family. it would be embarrassing, they said, to have an isles boy in a therapist office. it would be bad for the image. hans does not mention it again.
✧ instead, something turns in hans, and it is for the worst. he becomes biting and manipulative and cold because it’s the only way he can be respected by his family, and he needs to be respected by his family. they still don’t take him seriously, but it’s a step in the right direction. he loses friends along the way but hans figures if they can’t keep up with him, that’s not his fault -- if he thinks any differently, he might end up spiralling, and he can’t afford a setback. so instead, he stays a clever, handsome, mysterious, rich young man. stays quiet and keeps his head down and succeeds because there is nothing else he can do.
✧ hans, by the way, is very much in the closet. he hasn’t told anybody that he’s maybe even thinking that he might be anything other than straight. he’s had a few girlfriends, a few flings, enough to keep the suspicion off of him. his parents have never expressly been homophobic, but he is so aware that everything he does is a disappointment that he can’t help but think it’s a step out of line. he can’t help but think that even if it’s a committed and loving relationship, it’ll be a disappointment. but it’s a disappointment if he doesn’t bring anyone home, either, so what is a man to do ?
✧ the emotional little boy that hans used to be is still there underneath his expensive suits and bravado, somewhere deep down. he instead hides that child away with his charming smirks and witty remarks because that’s all he knows how to do. that child he once was is still there, watching the world around the wicked adult, showing himself every so often in his frustrated tears and gritted teeth. hans does not know who he is, but he knows he wants to impress. he wants to look good and sound good so that perhaps, one day, he will be good.
✧ hans is uncertain about all the new faces in corona, but he hopes some good will come of it. though, knowing his luck, it will turn sour -- and he will take the fall for it, as often is the case with these sorts of things. he will try, all the same, to keep to himself and not bother people, because if any bad word gets back to his parents, that will be the real humiliation for him.
his best friends has always been his horses, honestly. he didn’t socialise well as a kid because we was riddled with anxiety and it was easier to talk to horses and run away on them than it was to make friends.
his parents just wanted him out of the house so they let him sign up for whatever he wanted. as a result, he’s an excellent dancer, a fantastic horse rider and rearer, and an award winning sailor.
huge lover of classic lit. it makes him look like a pretentious dick but that’s exactly what he is. huge fan of tolstoy, shakespeare, homer, and dickens. has been known to quote these at people.
stans true crime documentaries and his interest in them probably lead him into law -- aside from the whole impressing his parents thing, which was also a huge motivator.
has considered entering politics as a career move, but wants to get a few high profile cases under his belt before making that transition because he imagines that will be easier and making him more desirable.
definitely a sufferer of anxiety attacks, and is hugely embarrassed by them. locks himself away and becomes much more biting in the fear moments after it passes.
guess who has a fear of intimacy ! guess who can’t have serious emotional relationships for fear of disappointing somebody ! guess who’s deeply in the closet ! guess who’s mortified by this fact ! it’s hans ! he figures if a relationship has got a social benefit for him, it’s workable, but otherwise he’s not interested and is a little afraid of commitment and serious romantic feelings.
