I was entirely indifferent toward this song upon my first listen, thinking it sounded like all of Ciara's other songs, but 15 plays later I'm really diggin it. No Grand Jury in Trayvon Martin Case

Prosecutor Angela Corey has decided not to use a Grand Jury in the Trayvon Martin case. It is her hope that one won't be necessary to finally secure an arrest of George Zimmerman.

Let's continue to keep Trayvon's family in our prayers and do all that we can to ensure that justice prevails.

Today marks the birth of a man who died a full year before I was born, yet still remains legendary in my eyes.

Mr. White, my elementary music teacher introduced me to Marvin at the age of 7. He told the story of how Marvin’s life was cut down by his own father the day before his 45th birthday.

As a child that was a lot to try to understand, but what happened next cemented Marvin Gaye as an icon in my eyes forever. Mr. White played Marvin’s version of our National Anthem. It sounded nothing like the version we had learned in class earlier that day. It was amazing!  At the end of it I remember feeling like something wonderful had been taken from the world that could never be replaced.

Marvin still lives on through his music. In fact, he was ahead of his time. His voice was a reflection of the heartbeat of us all, but specifically those of us whose voices have gone unheard since the day we were stolen.

It is my personal belief that God sends us ‘Earth Angels” and that we must learn from the messages that they give us. The cool thing about music is that it outlives its creator. We can always go back to it…

Below is a single titled “Save The Children,” (click on the hyperlink). It was unreleased in the United States, but climbed the charts in the UK…  It seems like everyone in the world gets it but U.S.

Dear Stargazer,

As some of you may know; my nephew turned 6 this month. I don’t get to see him often, but when I do we cherish those moments by pretending not to like each other. Lol! 

The truth is, I love that little guy and would do anything for him. So, when I hear about the Trayvon Martin case I can’t help, but think about him. My nephew is Trayvon Martin. To think that his life can be taken over something as meaningless as candy and a drink; sends me through a roller coaster of emotions. I’m outraged, heartbroken and at times vengeful, but as we all know revenge is never a solution.

The World that he grows up in is up to me to shape. I hope that I can leave a World better than the one we are currently in. The following piece is a call for everyone who feels the same to stand up and do something about it.
