Due to the high level at which Ms. Browneâs powers are capable of operating and their extreme variability of use make her very dangerous. Especially considering her previously tenuous control over them
DOB: 8/16/1993
Age: 21
Sex: Female
Hair: Red
Eyes: Blue
Height: 5â7â
Hometown: New York, NY (Bronx)
Ethnicity: Caucasian (Irish Descent)
Religion: Roman Catholic
Marital Status: Single
Powers: Power Mimicry
Ms. Browne is capable of imitating almost any power that she has personally witnessed. First using her power to lift a heavy set piece that had fallen on a cast member at her original workplace. The degree to which she is able to mimic another power is limited by time. She can only keep one power active at a time and can only keep it active for ten minutes approximately. It appears that her power mimicry is limited to physical powers. She has not been able to imitate case 5 or 6 to date. This warrants further investigation.
Power Status: Ms. Browne has made large strides in achieving complete mastery over her power. She now almost never accidentally manifests a power and those that she intends to use she now has a much firmer grasp on how to control them. There are no concerns currently about her control of her power.
Physical Evaluation:
Ms. Browne is in excellent health and presents no concerns about her condition.
Psychological Evaluation:
Dr. Messer warns that Ms. Browne may be a risk to the academy due to her lack of respect for authority and disposition towards the DSR. This  concern has been waived. Ms. Browne shows no other signs of mental disease or problems.
Sister Rosaâs powers make her extremely dangerous should she turn against he handlers. Treat with extreme caution and monitor constantly. Should she turn; dispatch armed personnel equipped with lead helmets immediately.
DOB: 6/4/1976
Age: 38
Sex: Female
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Brown
Height: 5â7â
Hometown: Eagle Pass, Texas
Ethnicity: Latina, Mexican
Religion: Roman Catholic, Practicing
Marital Status: Single
Powers: Telepathy (Class 5)
Sister Rosaâs telepathy is believed to be the most powerful case that the DSR has witnessed. She is very easily able to send and receive thoughts from very long distances. More frightening is the degree to which she is able to control the minds of humans. She has the ability to alter a personâs perceptions on such a large scale as to completely eliminate a personâs senses and she is capable of doing this to groups as many a ten people at a time. She also has the ability to create mass hallucinations though she has stated that she will only use this side of her powers in times of great need.
Power Status: Controlled
What is distressing about Sister Rosa is her complete command of her powers, she suffers no ill effects, as many telepathic cases do. Nor does she lack control if she is influencing a person they may well not know that she is there. What can prevent Sister Rosa from affecting a target is lead. Like many telepaths her powers cannot penetrate more than an inch of lead sheet.
Physical Evaluation:
Sister Rosa exhibits no glaring health problems however she has complained of slight lower back pain. Recommend looking into physical therapy. Sister Rosa also has no sense of hearing due to a congenital birth defect and as such has limited speech ability
Psychological Evaluation:
Sister Rosa, while difficult to interview due to Dr. Messer insisting on having a lead helmet for confidentiality purposes. With the help of an sign language interpreter Sister Rosa has been able to be interviewed. She does not show any signs of serious mental illness, unlike most of the DC Invasion survivors. Recommend check inâs every six months and paying the interpreter a larger gratuity.
Despite years of training. Ms. Danisâ powers are still not entirely controlled. Treat her with caution. If necessary use a gag after capture. If she is turned against the academy she was the capability of being extremely dangerous to both the school and the people in it.
DOB: 10/22/1985
Age: 29
Sex: Female
Hair: Blonde
Eyes: Blue
Height: 5â6â
Hometown: Vancouver, Canada
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Religion: Undeclared
Marital Status: Committed with Este Airoldi
Powers: Magic User
As unscientific as it sounds. Ms. Danisâ powers can only be described as magical. She is able to summon objects, teleport herself or large groups and make large alterations to both inanimate objects and people. Most of this seems to be linked to her speech lying mostly in the tone of her voice. Her alteration abilities appear to have been diminished after event in New York. This warrants further testing.
Her most common use of her power is summoning a suit of armor that she wears while in combat or to give herself wings capable of flight.
Power Status: Controlled
Ms. Danis has demonstrated a level of control in that she is able to prevent her power from harming people around her. This does not stop random objects from appearing near her. This has not caused any large scale damage yet. Monitor this condition.
Physical Evaluation:
Ms. Danis is at a functional level of health, she demonstrates great agility and athleticism, further enhanced by her ability to alter herself at will. The DSR does have concerns about her smoking habit something that she vehemently refuses to give up.
Psychological Evaluation:
Ms. Danis is rude, terse and unpleasant but nonetheless she is in excellent condition. Despite her long term of service to the DSR. Dr. Messer sees no problem in her continuing field work.
Due to the realization that Mr. Ramos is of Sechusen descent he must be treated with extreme caution in order to both protect Earth and to maintain peace. Additionally Mr. Ramos has discovered a very dangerous state called the Archon that heightens his powers to dangerous degrees. He is not cognizant while in this state approach with caution.
DOB: 2/16/1988
Age: 26
Sex: Male
Hair: Black
Eyes: Brown
Height: 5â7â
Hometown: New York, NY (Bronx)
Ethnicity: Latino
Religion: Undisclosed Christian
Marital Status: Single
Powers: Energy Projection, Heightened Reflexes and Agility
Mr Ramos has the ability to project both heat and light from his hands either in the form of melting beams or blinding flashes. His alien biology also enhances his athleticism and and strength beyond that of a normal human due to his hybrid physiology.
Power Status: Uncontrolled
Once believed to have his powers controlled. Mr. Ramos has been observed, while under great duress to enter a state of heightened power in which he is almost completely uncontrolled. This bars him from field work.
Physical Evaluation:
Mr. Ramos functions at a level above what the average human can. His health is difficult to judge without very specialized testing. According to the Sechusen ambassador he is in excellent health. He does not seem to show any physiological effects from his psycholigical conditions. Monitor his condition carefully.
Psychological Evaluation:
Mr. Ramos has recently consented to meet with Dr. Messer on a weekly basis. Mr. Ramos shows signs of both PTSD, depression and insomnia. This may either be linked to his hybridized DNA, or the Archon. He has stated that he feels an intense guilt at all hours. He has stopped seeing his former partner. Case no. 3 and his condition has declined further. Dr. Messer still believes that Mr. Ramos can improve given time. Recommend removal from field work until his control and condition improve
Dr. Bernsteinâs powers, while they do make him effective in the field and functionally impossible to harm or disable for an extended period, do not prevent him from being captured. He has not proven to be a threat to the organization or the people around him.
Dr. Bernstein is able to turn his body into a form composed entirely of rapidly regenerating cells that appear as a blue slime. These cells are constantly sloughing off, as Dr. Bernstienâs body regenerates. This form makes him nearly impervious to any blunt force, and any severed limbs grow back at a rapid pace while Dr. Bernstein feels no pain at all. Dr. Bernstein has also demonstrated the ability to stretch and alter the consistency of his body, from rubbery, to slippery, or tacky.
Weaknesses:
Extreme heat or cold can cause Dr. Bernstienâs body to become more liquid or solid in which case he will lose some control over it depending on the level of heat.
Psychic Attacks: Telepathic attacks are capable of disabling Dr. Bernstein. As demonstrated by Case No. 6
Magic: Magical attacks have also proven effective as Case No. 5 was able to overpower Dr. Bernstein in combat.
Power Status: Controlled
Dr. Bernstein is able to shift between his human form and his slime form at will with no ill effects. His slime form will also manifest without his concentration as a defense mechanism.
Physical Evaluation:
Dr. Bernstein appears to be in excellent physical health as his unique physiology  prevents him from receiving any lasting injury. This condition also causes him to be unable to be poisoned. Effects upon normal fatigue seem to be non-existent. Warrants further exploration
Psychological Evaluation:
Dr. Bernstein suffers from some minor trauma, subsequent to the alien invasion of DC. This seems to be associated with his former partner, Victor. Dr. Bernstein has asked to not see a psychiatric doctor, nor go through therapy on this topic. However he still functions fine both on the field and in professional work and remains light hearted. Recommend monitoring his condition for improvement. Check ins with Dr. Messer are scheduled for every two months. Dr. Bernstein has missed two scheduled visits consecutively.
Ms. Shepandarâs level of super strength places her in this category due to the threat that she would pose should she be turned against the academy or against the DSR. If she is threatened treat with extreme caution
DOB: 5/3/84
Height: 5â8â
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Brown
Ethnicity: Declined
Nationality: Indian
Religion: Hindu
Marital Status: Married
Powers:
Flight: Ms. Shepandar has demonstrated ability to fly comfortably at the velocities clocked at approximately  kilometers per hour. Additionally while in the air she possesses an extreme agility that allows her to perform difficult maneuvers with ease.
Super Strength (Class 5) : Ms. Shepandar possesses a super human strength that is almost singular in nature. It is not yet known the extent to which this power can go only that it is very, very high.
Power Status: Controlled
Physical Evaluation:
Ms. Shepandar, despite having declined physical evaluation and can in no way be forced to comply, to mere visual observation appears to be in excellent health. Her use of her powers do not appear to affect her long term ability in any fashion that can be measured without further testing. Note to request physical examination again in six months.
Psychological Evaluation:
Ms. Shepandar has consented to psychological evaluation with Dr. Messer. She seems to be in excellent condition despite her involvement in the DC invasion. She maintains a cheerful disposition and is organized and cool headed. Recommend check-ins twice yearly. More at Ms. Shepandarâs request.
Mr. Browne has shown through his years of service that he will not be a threat to security. His power is completely controlled and actively defends the academy and the DSR from harm.
DOB: 2/16/1989
Age: 25
Sex: Male
Hair: Red
Eyes: Blue
Height: 5â11â
Hometown: New York, NY (Brooklyn)
Ethnicity: Caucasian (Irish Descent)
Religion: Roman Catholic, Non-Practicing
Marital Status: Engaged to Vanessa Friedman, monitored superhuman
Powers: Super Eidetic Memory,
Mr. Browne has a singular ability to remember anything he sees and recall it perfectly. This causes him to be a walking library as any book he has ever read is recorded and stored in his brain. He has also shown the ability to rapidly process and collate this information as well. Giving him a knack for engineering gadgetry, and any sort of martial art. Though this second ability has only been demonstrated after the death of his mentor, Ann Gao, this warrants further investigation.
With Suit:
Flight, Energy Projection.
Power Status: Mr. Browneâs powers are controlled in the sense that he does not cause any damage to his surroundings nor does he cause any direct harm to himself. However they are in a state of being always active. Making Mr. Browne unable to forget anything that he sees without intervention
Physical Evaluation:
Mr. Browne is in near perfect physical condition for a male of his age. Likely due to the extensive training he had while with the Extraordinary Corps. The only detractor is that he walks with a pronounced limp on his left leg where he sustained an injury during the events of Washington DCâs Invasion. He has not yet gotten this injury treated, stating that it will heal fine on itâs own.
Psychological Evaluation:
To be brief, Mr. Browne is a mess. He shows signs of both PTSD and depression. He claims that this is due to the events that have occurred in his five years with the Extraordinary Corps, Dr. Messer is inclined to believe him. In order to prevent a trigger event Dr. Messer recommends that Mr. Browne be removed from field work until progress is made. Mr. Browne concurs with this assessment.
Clouds roll by above me as the family van rumbles its way down the road headed towards upstate New York. Today is June 15th this is the day where I turn my life around, or so I hope. Fancy is playing on the radio, but that is drowned out by my familyâs constant thinking. Hank is thinking about how much this program is costing us and hoping itâs worth it. Heâs been worrying about money a lot lately ever since he found out he could lose his job. Mom is of course worrying about me while sheâs smiling and making conversation with my sister Ester and Ester is just thinking about drawing. Iâm staying silent, I tend to do that since I pick up a lot of what people are about to say thanks to my power.
My name is Deborah Schuler Klein, Iâm fifteen, and my passions lie in reading, film, television and writing. Oh and I have a blog where I pretend to be a superhero with other people who are also pretending to be superheroes. Ever since what happened in New York City Iâve always thought super heroes are pretty cool. On my blog Iâm Sophie Stratosphere, who flies faster than a plane and can toss  a car across a city block. I get into all sorts of crazy hijinks with my friends; Kalâyeth Kalaar, dark angsty magic user whoâs Sophieâs on again off again boyfriend, and The Gladiatrix, super powered lady gladiator from out of time who emerges just in time to save the word with her magic sword and shield. Our tandem fanfiction where we saved the world from horrible life sucking aliens called the Krood got us a pretty good place on Archive of Our Own too over 15 k hits. But down here on Earth, real Earth. Iâm not Sophie, Kalâyeth isnât my boyfriend, heâs just my friend Danny, Gladiatrix is just Patricia and Iâm Debbie Klein, disabled, telepath teenager.
âDebbie.â Mom says, pulling me out of my thoughts for minute. She always sounds so happy, especially when sheâs worrying about everything. Sheâs where I got my hair and eyes from. Iâve been told I look kind of like Regina Spektor, if she wore glasses and had a wheelchair. âYouâre sure you want to do this?â Sheâs thinking about all of the horrible things that could happen to me. I could fall in the bathroom and no one would be there to help, get bullied because of my condition, or worse. The building might not be wheelchair accessible!
âYes Mom. Iâll be fine. You donât have to worry about me.â I can take care of myself now. I add telepathically.
âI know that dear, but I still worry about you. Iâm your mother, itâs my job.â
âMost jobs require you to take breaks though Mom. You could try that.â
âHey, donât you go back talking your mother!â Hank butts in. Heâs focusing on the road so Iâm not getting a whole lot out of him unless I seriously try and dig, which would be rude. âSheâs just worried about you, cause we wonât be around like we were for the pasta incident.â
âI thought I told you to stop reminding me of that.â
âWeâll stop bringing it up when it stops being relevant, and hilarious.â Both Mom and Hank laugh. Ester and I look at each other knowingly
âDaddy, I think Debbie is being serious here.â Ester pipes up before going back to her drawing. Sheâs been fixated on that. Ester is sweet, sheâs honestly the one person who doesnât think my power is weird or a problem. Weâll even have secret conversations sometimes in our heads. Mom and Hank hate it when we do that. This is my family, theyâre overbearing, worry about nothing, and Iâm the luckiest person to have them looking out for me.
Ingrid Michaelson is singing about broken hearts as the van pulls up to a fence surrounding a GIANT MANSION HOLY SHIT. Â The fence around it beeps as the gate swings open. The place had to have three stories, ugh thatâs so many stairs. When I pictured a summer camp for supers I didnât picture this at all. I kind of pictured an actual, you know, camp; of course this beats the heck out of that idea.
âAlright. This is the place I think.â Hank says. His thoughts are full of wonder; we could never afford to live in such a place. Or even live near it for that matter. âJudy, you wheel out Debbieâs mustang; Ester, why donât you keep your big sister company for a little bit.â
âI drew you a picture, Debbie.â Ester says as sheâs putting the finishing touches on her drawing with a blue colored pencil.
âOh? Whatâs it of sis?â I lean over to get a better look as Ester finishes coloring in. Itâs a picture of me in Sophie Stratosphereâs costume. Ester has been getting very good at drawing people lately. You can tell who theyâre supposed to be now and this one is supposed to be me, without the wheelchair, flying through the sky in Sophieâs blue mask and cape. There are days I wish I could walk, but Iâve found that wishing is a dangerous thing. I smile at her though itâs kind of fake. Ester liked Sophie Stratosphere, so I told her stories about her to entertain her. âThatâs really good Ester. Though I donât think Iâm really a mask and cape kind of person.â
âBut you are a super hero Debbie. Youâve got powers and stuff doesnât that make you a superhero?â
âI donât think that all superheroes wear masks though. The slime guy on the news didnât have a mask right?â
âYeah, but his face is all ucky so he doesnât need one.â
âThatâs probably right. â
âWhy donât you keep the drawing.â She said, offering the picture to me. âIn case you get lonely.â I smile and take it and fold it into the pocket of my hoodie.
âOkay kids, letâs get going, Momâs got the mustang out for you, letâs get you out of the car now Debbie.â With a practiced efficiency, he lifts me and Iâm back in my mustang, thatâs my wheelchair, we call it that because the base is red and we decided to put some decals on it. We turn it on and Iâm off.
Mom lets me ring the doorbell. A male voice sounds through the buzzer machine. âWho is it?â
âUmâŚDeborah Klein?â I say back.
âDeborah Shuler-Klein and family.â My mother corrects.
âYes, alright the door is going to open. Please come in, Ms. Shepandar and I will be down in a moment.â Thereâs a beep and the door opens. My chair bumps over the threshold. I hear Hank think. Holy shit. Who could ever afford this?
âNo kidding Hank.â I say only to get a dirty look. âSorry. Itâs hard to turn it off.â I say as an excuse, though I was thinking the same thing. This place is magnificent. Hardwood floors, vaulted ceilings. Elevators, holy shit, elevators.
âYeah I know but could you keep that to yourself. Alright.â
âYeah. Sorry Hank.â Thereâs a beep that comes from the elevator and out steps a broad shouldered man in a grey suit with a black tie. His hair is bright red, heâs starting to show the signs of balding even though thereâs no way this guy is over thirty. Heâs smiling despite his thoughts. Which are hectic, confused. His mind is full, one idea elbows its way over another out as if crowded. Heâs faced death and destruction many times. He seems strangely familiar though I canât place him
âHello, you must be the Kleins.â He says, stepping up to us.
âSchuler-Kleinsâ my mother adds. Sheâs quite particular about that bit.
âSchuler Kleins it is. I apologize. My name is Quinn Browne, and Iâm the headmaster here at Greyson Academy.â I hear both Hank and Mom think Bullshit. While Ester offers  a real super hero, heâs not as tall as the ones on the news.  âand from the bit of mind reading I was feeling you must be Deborahâ he says, looking down at me. I flush bit, I didnât know that people could tell when I was reading them. He crouches down to look me in the eye. âI think I should not have to tell you; that is not a polite thing to do. Iâm aware you are not in full control of your telepathy, but please refrain from reading peopleâs minds. You may find things you wish you hadnât.â Mom puts her hand on my shoulder.
âIâm sure she didnât mean any harm. Mr. Browne.â She says. Iâm still trying to place him; I know Iâve seen him before and plenty of times. Wait. Add a green mask, and a jetpack. Flying through the air fighting bad guys. Giving a speech in DC before the world found out that aliens exist. Holy shit.
âOh my god youâre Eureka!â I blurt out before I can stop myself. Eureka winces. âOh Iâm so sorry. Iâm just a big fan of you and the rest of your team. I was there in New York City when you guys saved the world from that thing in central park. I watched you giving your speech on the news while I was in the hospital. You guys were amazing. I thought heroes like you only existed in the movies.â
âDebbieâŚâMom started.  âIâm sure heâs not actually, who you think he is.â
âWell I donât really go by that name anymore. You see Iâm retired now. Superhero-ing takes its toll on a person like myself, but you canât ever really just leave. So now Iâm here, teaching you kids how to better use your powers.â
âTeaching them to replace you.â Hank said. He was a protective guy, for some reason. Itâs not like we and Ester were his kids.
âThat choice is up to them. The academy is just here to teach them to control their powers so they can be functional members of society. No more than that.â That didnât dissuade Hank however. He was about to say something about the validity of the schoolâs credentials when the door buzzed. A man with a southern accent spoke. I could pick up various throughts. Some of them were even in Spanish.
âLouie Grafton, with Elaine Grafton.â It was then followed by a younger voice, it sounded like a kid.
âFernando and Gloria Sanchez.â
âErin Chambers, with Philip Chambers.â
A gaggle of people filed in to the spacious foyer. A man in a suit along with who I assumed was his wife. He has his hand on the shoulder of who Iâd assume was his daughter, she was almost completely covered with the exception of her face and head, he skin was an odd shade of red and sparkled when she moved. She was worrying about her parents embarrassing her. Behind them a very tired Hispanic woman entered, firmly grasping the hands of a boy and a girl. The boy, who turned out to be Fernando, was floating a solid foot off the ground. He was speaking excitedly in Spanish to the woman who was nodding along. The girl, Gloria, just looked vaguely disinterested in everything around her. She wasnât thinking of much of anything aside from how she didnât want to be here. Behind them was a blond boy he was clearly nervous about something. Likely about the smoke rising from his collar, his mother was trying to calm him down.
âHello everyone. I do apologize I was just letting in the field team from their trip to Europe.â From the top of the stairs, a brown skinned woman in a white pantsuit came flying down, like actually flying.
âField team?â several people asked. Hank of course among them.
âYes of course. Our field team lends a hand when dealing with super powered threats. Thank to them the super villain known as Candyman is once again behind bars in Alcatraz.â She said, adjusting her glasses, she cleared her throat before landing and addressing us.
âHello again. I am Vanida Shepandar, co-headmaster of Greyson Academy along with my associate Mr. Browne whom you have already met. I will be instructing the students in history, ethics, and literature. Some of you may know me by my field name, Blue Shield.â Which made sense if you put an armored blue body suit on her and gave her a white mask, and had her hurling dumpsters at giant robots. âWelcome to Greyson Academy. I will now answer questions while we w-â
She was interrupted by what sounded like a jet taking off. A wind kicked up in the foyer, knocking several paintings of old people askew, there was a fiery blur and a white man appeared at the top of the stairs. He was tall, brawny and had bright blonde, windswept hair. He couldnât be over twenty. He was dressed casually. His thought patterns reminded me of a puppy, he was clearly excited. He ran down the stairs. His clothes were actually smoking.
âHello everyone I am pleased to meet you.â He had a bit of an accent. Iâd place it as being Russian with my best guess. There was a chorus of assorted greetings. Â Blue Shield was face palming.
âYes. This is Mr. Ivanovich, also called Blaze. He is a graduate of the program. He will be the superspeed instructor here, for the students who require instruction in those fields.â Blue Shield stated, shooting a look over to the Hispanic family which made Gloria perk up.
âDa, and I also instruct the art classes. â
âYes, yes. Now I will be taking questions from parents regarding the program.â
âYes, Iâm curious about your accommodations here.â Louie Grafton asked his arm around his sparkly daughter. âThis is a boarding school so Iâd like to see how my daughter is going to be living. In person mind you.â
âYes, of course. You will be seeing the rooms shortly after we get everything settled, donât worry we have spacious rooms, Ms. Greyson, the owner of the property saw that it was fully remodeled. Each room is fit to house two people comfortably, with plenty of breathing room.â
âYou mean to tell me my daughter is going to have a roommate?â
âYes, this was explained when you were briefed a month ago.â
âDaddy Iâll be fine. Iâll get along with whoever they put me with.â Elaine piped up.
âNow listen sweet-â
âOh awesome the kids are here. Hey guys hurry up.â That was the only warning we got before a menagerie burst forth from the hallway. Jumping, flying, and/or hovering down. In fact only two of them walked. A person who looked like a bee monster flew in and lighted on the railing. He had a layered carapace, yellow and black that retracted revealing a Latin boy with a squarish face and scrawny shoulders. A brown skinned girl leapt off of the wall and landed atop the bannister perched like a gargoyle. A tall broad man in a blue suit came down the stairs. His face, rippled with a bluish color. Behind him came a wrinkled woman in a habit. A blonde woman with shining yellow wings flapped her way into the foyer. An Asian boy lofted himself atop a shining white disc. It was almost surreal. These people with astounding powers and here I was...reading minds I didn't want to read.
âHey kids. Pleased to meetcha.â The blonde said. Her wings puffing out of existence.
The door buzzed again and another gaggle of people walked in and then it started to happen again. I got overloaded; it started a ringing that kept getting louder and louder. The girl with the sparkling skin was feeling nervous. The Hispanic boy with wings as admiring another boy who just walked in, his hair was bright orange, Hank was worrying about Mom, Mom was worrying about me. There was nothing but noise, filling my head. I thought Iâd had it under control that this wouldnât be like the last time. Mom was shouting something; I think it was about me. She was motioning for help. People were looking concerned. The woman in the habit was running over. I was starting to feel faint. The noise was everywhere. I was falling into a pit of static. Crashing into the void.
Then I came back. The static was gone. I could hear again. Mom was asking me very loudly if I was okay. I could hear her fine but I couldnât. Hear her. Or anyone for that matter. Then there was this voice.
âDonât worry. Your powers will work fine in a little whileâ I felt a hand on my shoulder. The woman in the habit was touching me. âMy name is Sister Rosa Vergara, I am called Sister Silence when Iâm working with the rest of the field team. I will do you no harm.â Her voice sounded like a chorus of bells.
Eureka continued briefing everyone as people continued to trickle into the foyer. With the Sister by my side I could hear. The kids were chattering to each other. Hank and Mom were talking to each other saying that this place may actually be alright, and thing feltâŚhopeful if not a bit tense after what just happened.
Housing assignments for all of the students. On site faculty live on the third floor in single rooms. Boys live on the first floor. Jefferson and Chambers have specially designed rooms to help contain their powers. The girls live on the second floor which also houses the classrooms.
After a few more minutes of talking about the program, Eureka cleared his throat and glanced over to Blue Shield. âAlright. Now that about everyone is here we are going to give you all your room assignments. Your parents will go with you to your room to get you settled afterward we will break off. The student will join me for orientation. The parents will be going with Ms. Shepandar to be briefed on the rest of our program. Boys are on the first floor, girls will be housed on the second. Now I will be calling names come up to receive your key. Anwar, Aasiya.â
There was a pause and then a thick, brown skinned man came up to receive the room number and key. He took his large family out of the building to get their things.
âChambers, Philip.â The boy with the smoke rising from his clothes came up to receive the key. He and his mother then left the room.
The room emptied steadily as names continued to be called. Collins, Donovan. Danvers, Peter. Grafton, Elaine and so on. Finally my name was called.
âSchuler Klein, Deborah.â I wheeled my way up to get my key. Room 202. âIf you need any help with your belongings our field team will be glad to give you a hand. I nodded.
âI should be fine, Sister Rosa doesnât seem to mind giving me a hand. The elevator is where exactly?â
âIn the hallway just past the staircase. In an hour a faculty member will come to collect you. You do not need to be unpacked but make sure all of your things are at least in your room.â
Once again I found myself in an elevator with my parents and sister, though the telepathic nun was an odd addition.
âDoes this happen often?â
âItâs not that common, but we try to make everyone feel welcome.â
âIsnât it a bit rude that weâre communicating like this?â
âIâd imagine so, but this is the only way I can communicate with people. Iâm a deaf mute.â
âWell shit. Iâm sorry.â
âPlease. Iâve heard enough apologies.â
âAlright, are you a teacher here as well?â
âYes. Iâm currently teaching the telepathy class so youâll be seeing a lot of me Iâm also usually in the library as well if you need someone to talk to.â
The elevator dinged and we all filed out; Mom and Hank giving the Sister a strange look as she helped us carry in our things. They were trying very hard to not really think of anything in particular lest it offend her. My chair bumping over the threshold of the wood floor of room 202,
We started moving my things in. I took the bed on the left because there was a space for my chair there. I couldnât say that the room wasnât well furnished there was a rug in the middle of the floor and there was plenty of space between the beds. Thankfully they were low to the ground. I didnât bring much, just most of my clothes, phone iPad, which Mom insisted I install Skype on so I could talk to her often. Rosa left as we started to unpack. My mother thanked her in sign language and I said goodbye.
âWhew, that was a bit awkward.â Hank said with a sigh.
âWhat? Having a telepath around?â I laughed a bit.
âNo itâs not that, just being around multiple.â Hank was choosing his words carefully. I was going to reply and I started to pick things up in another language. The girl. Aasiya I think her name was came in with all of her family. They sort of crowded the room. I think there were seven of them in all. She was the only girl aside from her mother. They all gave off a feeling of unease but that was all I could get from them since I didnât understand their thoughts entirely.
Hank broke the silence first. âHello. Uh, Iâm Hank, this is my wife Judith and our daughters Deborah and Ester. Deborah is going to be staying here this summer.â Hank was talking slowly which I found a bit offensive.
The man who I assumed was her father started to respond. He had a bit of an accent.
"Hello. I am Darwiish, my daughter Aasiya will be here as well. We hope she do not cause you trouble."
"I don't think there will be any trouble here." Hank said. Mom was kind of frozen because she didn't want to offend anyone, Ester was there, noticing a smell and scorch marks on the floor. This wasn't getting any less awkward soon.
