Work Wives™ ABBOTT ELEMENTARY 1.12
netflix once again releasing a show with a shit ton of representation and giving it ZERO promotion
They are about to do it again for Zero and I’m pre-emptively angry.
The one-two combo of found family in the Irregulars to friend group in Zero could have been clean elegant marketing but nooooooo.
I think an interesting argument found in the Irregulars is how trauma lies at the base of certain characteristics. Billy isn’t angry because he’s poor. He’s angry because his poverty (in a capitalistic system) led to him enduring trauma and engraining that him not having money represented a lack of worth.
Spike didn’t endure the same specific trauma so while he’s suffered from poverty he hasn’t endured the trauma of the workhouse and hasn’t internalized this same insecurity
I wrote this before Billy ran into the owner of the workhouse but I like how the show then develops this in another direction. Billy’s insecurity comes from an anger that is unrecognizable to Spike. Spike (being generally awesome) tries to understand and even acknowledges his lack of understanding but he doesn’t instinctively get it and know what to say like Bea does.

Sometimes i watch a random movie and i look up the fanfic for the movie just to confirm to myself that yes….every fandom is racist
Watching a new fandom start is like seeing the rings form on a racist tree.
