inspired by your dorian post (so true), do you have disability headcanons for any other critrole characters?

i’m just gonna do player characters. asides from percy (because… because he’s missing a hand) none of vm stood out to me as disabled but if anybody does have headcanons for them i would love to hear them! i do like to imagine that tary operates like a robotic service dog though.

laudna with marfan syndrome and EDS, two things that’re pretty much a given! i’ve also seen a drawing of her with hearing aids and it’s one of my favorite drawings of her. ashton is a canon disabled king with chronic pain, partial blindness, migraines, and brain damage. i think he also has the same essential tremor as taliesin does. imogen also has the same migraines as ashton in canon, but i’d also imagine that due to her psychic powers she’s got a lot of muscle dystrophy. and finally orym is blind in that one eye chetney clawed. my city now.

I love this narrative of Ashton getting in a bunch of accidents either by being sacrificed by others or sacrificing himself. And every time he gets a new disability and a new kind of pain that are totally life changing and cut them off from who they were before. They can never go back, never "heal" their body back to it's old state.

But every time they're getting some power out of it that makes them feel like they have more agency, and more power to change everything wrong with the world. As long as they keep leaning into it and pushing themselves beyond the limit and letting themselves get even more wrecked. Like their body's something done to them but they're learning to use it new ways. And it's feeding the cycle that he's feeling invincible and any cost is worth it. Like's they're going to end up paying a permanent heavy cost for this. Their status quo is using their powers to put themselves in danger for everyone else's sake.

Often superhero disabilities are badly done and feel like erasing the disability. But Taliesin's really leaned into the disability reality. The pain has limited some of his interactions like finding hugging and other physical contact mostly unpleasant. Being visibly marked as different has affected how people regard them. So it doesn't feel like erasure at all, it feels like a consequence and a reality with a dash of transhumanism. This is the take on this story I've been wanting to see.
