I see this almost 100% of the time when a guy has answered this question. Why is it unacceptable for a partner to want to google a potential date? I’m seriously curious—do men just not understand why women might want to find out more about their date for safety reasons before heading out the door?

Edited to add: for those who don’t use OkCupid, the other person’s question is at the top. The text is in black because I have answered that I think that is acceptable. My answer is at the bottom, and the text is in red because the other person has marked that they think that my answer is unacceptable.

I don't know about other guys, but I see 'yes' answers as an indicator that the person may not respect others' privacy. Now that I've read this however, I can understand why women would answer 'yes'. I guess that, being male (and fairly large at that), I'm not accustomed to worrying about my personal safety.

What is the median wage for these countries? Knowing this could completely change this chart. Turkey, for example, with a minimum wage that is 72% of the median wage, could have a lower minimum wage than the US if Turkey's median wage was, for example, $10.

This is missing some important things.

Checks and credit cards have the very important ability of getting you things when you don’t have money.

Checks can be used to pay for something later if you know you’ll have money before it come out of your account. 

Credits cards are for payment over time.

Automatic payments are only good if you know you’re going to have money when it’s time to pay. If you’re barely getting by that’s not always a sure thing.

These tips are great. But more so for people with money.

Also - credit cards have another important purpose.  They help you build credit.  You should have 1 credit card through your bank (avoid credit cards through department stores and such, those are the bad kind that lower your credit score).  Use your credit card regularly and pay it off every month before they charge you interest.  If you never have a credit card, your credit will not be sufficient when it comes to life’s larger purchases like renting in your own name, buying a car, house, etc.

Yes!  In the sense that you shouldn’t be afraid to use your credit card often and you should never spend more than you have in your bank (unless you have no choice/emergency).  Always pay it off immediately.  Most banks allow automatic payment of credit card bills from your regular account so you’re never late.  This is the fastest, safest way to build your credit score.  Other ways are paying your bills on time and avoiding bad debt.  Bad debt being things like credit card debt you can’t repay and loan defaults, good debt being student loans and your mortgage.

Wrong. If you pay off your credit card, your credit score drops. You must be constantly in debt and constantly paying off that debt to maintain a decent credit score. If you choose to get a credit card, charge a few hundred dollars and only pay off the monthly interest (treat it like another monthly bill). Once you've charged the few hundred dollars, never touch it again unless there is an emergency. As for the "good debt; bad debt" issue, any debt accrued that does not result in you making more money every month than the interest you owe is bad debt -- this includes student loans and mortgages. *Edit - I made a mistake. Paying off your credit card doesn't lower debt, closing your card does: http://www.experian.com/blogs/ask-experian/2009/08/05/the-effect-on-credit-scores-of-paying-off-and-closing-credit-cards/ However, it seems I was correct that maintaining a low amount of debt and regularly paying off the interest does improve your credit score.

When FAO (Food & Agriculture Organization) announced in October [2009] that 1 billion people around the world are hungry, and it would take $30 billion in aid annually to save these lives, at the same time, 6 Central Banks (US, EU, Japan, Canada, England, Switzerland) injected $180 billion into financial markets to save private banks, and have continued to do so, so that, as of September 2009, they’ve injected $17 trillion into the private banks. $17 trillion is enough to save the world from hunger for 600 years. Where is that money now?
