His attention had been so absorbed in the music that he didn’t notice her slide up next to him – in fact he gave a slight start when he felt the pressure of her head on his shoulder. Perhaps he was jumpier than usual, something he found to be amusing considering his unofficial post at the school to medicate those who often had tightly wound nerves. Izzy himself never imbibed, though that was besides the point. Pulling the earbuds from his head, Izzy shook his head quickly and pushed the notebook a little away from himself. “No, no, it’s alright. I’m just … you know. Up in the air, all over the place, whatever. Are … you okay? You look dog tired.” He could read the exhaustion on her face, nearly feel it rolling off of her. Of course he was worried. Probably more than he should have been.
Once she had been reassured that she wasn’t being a complete nusiance to they boy, Sloane let her head rest comfortably on his shoulder again. She nodded slowly and let her eyes flutter shut before she responded. “I’m fine, fine, yeah.” She mumbled. Simply being in the presance of Izzy calmed Sloane down and she felt the stress melting off her. “Are you okay? It’s been a long week for both of us...”
“Look at these old high school yearbooks, these hairstyles are the worst and the best thing I’ve ever seen!”
“I like the old yearbooks way better. They’re totally cooler than ours now.”
“It’s very quiet today…Zombie apocalypse or something happened and I didn’t get the memo?” Bella grinned and sat on the park bench.
“It’s weird, usually it’s so busy and crowded around here.” Sloane shrugged. “I like it better this way.”
Damn. I now really respect surfers. It’s a lot harder than it looks…
Yeah, I fuckin’ know. I gave surfing a shot, but I think I prefer riding the concrete waves, if you catch my drift.
Fingers absently traced along the keys of the launchpad to his left, attention fully on the notebook that he was actively jotting down notes in. Izzy had his earbuds in, his shoulders wracked with concentration and every ounce of his being poured into the hobby that peeled his mind away from reality. Since the return of his visit with his mother … it felt like he needed it. Thankfully the library was quiet, as it was meant to be, and only every so often would he turn away from his notes to test out the sounds he crafted in his book. The only break in his work was the occasional peering over his shoulder, as if he were expecting company but … he knew that his presence in the library was quiet as a whisper.
With slumped shoulders and bags under her eyes, Sloane wandered through the halls of Westwood in a daze. The past week hadn’t been kind to the quiet Freak and she was more than thankful that it was finally Friday. A much needed break from responsibilities and reality was exactly what Sloane was hoping to find as she pushed through the doors of the library. She had her eyes on a table tucked into an empty corner of the room and was hightailing it towards her destination when she suddenly caught a glimpse of a familiar form. There was a moment of hesitation before she decided to change her direction and head towards her friend. Sloane let her backpack slide off her back and she plopped down into the empty seat beside Izzy. She rested her head on one of his shoulders. “I think I might die of sleep deprivation, if these finals don’t kill me first.” Noticing that the boy had been in the middle of something, Sloane quickly lifted her head and stammered out an apology. “Oh, I-I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt you.”
I’m not that bad! I’ve only had… 2 bottles? [laughs] I heard there was games going on in the basement, care to join? Body shots first?
Two bottles? All on your own? That’s a lot dude. You tryna get me naked or something Kate? Try one of the Busy’s, they’re always down for body shots. I will play beer pong with you though.
You’re off sixth period Monday right? We can grab sushi or something. Well let’s see; lots of drinking, drugs, sex and dancing. But what else is new? Oh I’m here with a date, I mocked Alfie twice on twitter which is a record low and I finally finished season nine of Grey’s Anatomy.
I think so, yeah. Even if i’m not, I’ll just skip. Lunch with you is better than class. A date huh? Who’s the lucky dude? Alife “prom king” Bonas? Will his head ever shrink after that? The world may never know. But thank god you finally finished, I’ve been waiting for you to catch up.
