Tell people how strong they are but allow them to weep, to scream, to be insecure and break apart. Let them feel their emotions. Strength comes in different ways.

No matter what is going on in life, we can find a reason to thank God. We choose what we focus on. We can either focus on our problems, or we can focus on our blessings. The question is: do you want more problems, or do you want more blessings? When you thank God, you are focusing on the blessing!
One thing I’ve noticed is that when you live with an attitude of constant gratitude, not only do you thank God for what He’s done in your life, you start thanking Him for what He will do in your life. You thank Him for opening doors for you. You thank Him for increasing you. You thank Him for bringing the right people into your life. When you say “Thank You” to God for the things that are coming, it’s really a declaration of your faith in Him. You are saying in essence, “God, I’m so sure of Your goodness, I’m so sure that You’re working in my life that I’m going to thank You right now for what You are going to do tomorrow!”
Today, have an attitude of gratitude. Let your faith say, “Thank You.” Praise Him throughout the day with a humble heart and watch what He will do on your behalf!
Dear God! Today, I just want to thank you! Any one who knows how to think, would find reasons to thank! Many times I’m so occupied with what I don’t have, that I miss what I have. For the things you have freely given me to enjoy. Thank You! I don’t know how I stay alive, how I got placed in my family or how I understand the things I do. I don’t know how you located this wonderful and beautiful people around me. Thank You! In the last 24hrs, over 153,000 people have died around the world, thank you God for sparing me! Of those that started this year, over 52 million are no more, God, I can’t thank you enough! I went to the hospital and found out the price of just oxygen for those on life support, at a cost of N20,000 per day, I realized my parents and I couldn’t have afforded to keep me alive for as long as I have lived. God, I thank you! I did a little research and realized that Oxygen is only a small part of life support, if all the things I do without thinking, like breathing, blood flow, metabolism, e.t.c. If they were to need support, the richest human alive would struggle to live for a few years. God, I thank you! Just this morning, over 12,000 people have died from hunger. I eat and sometimes skip breakfast without giving it any thought. God, Thank You! Today, I don’t want to complain, I don’t want to whine. I don’t want to even corner you into endless prayers about my needs and wants. Sometimes I think the big deal of life are the little problems here and here that I have. I don’t realize that 120 years on earth is just a drop in the ocean called eternity. The best gift I could have gotten was you reaching out and saving me! For this, I am eternally grateful!
The beauty, the serenity, land of my forefathers
How do you honor Abacha and Babaginda with Gani? Like how do you honor Abacha and Babaginda?! These men are murderers! Abacha had over four billion dollars stashed abroad. The man murdered Ken Saro Wiwa, he killed his opponents in broad daylight! How do you even honor such a monster with Gani who fought for human rights?! How do you honor Babaginda?! This is why Chinua Achebe refused their useless awards! Awards this, award that. You honor killers and corrupt leaders. Anuofia! Ofeke ndi mmuo! Nzuzu!

Here’s to the security guards who maybe had a degree in another land. Here’s to the manicurist who had to leave her family to come here, painting the nails, scrubbing the feet of strangers. Here’s to the janitors who don’t even fucking understand English yet work hard despite it all. Here’s to the fast food workers who work hard to see their family smile. Here’s to the laundry man at the Marriott who told me with the sparkle in his eyes how he was an engineer in Peru. Here’s to the bus driver, the Turkish Sufi who almost danced when I quoted Rumi. Here’s to the harvesters who live in fear of being deported for coming here to open the road for their future generation. Here’s to the taxi drivers from Nigeria, Ghana, Egypt and India who gossip amongst themselves. Here is to them waking up at 4am, calling home to hear the voices of their loved ones. Here is to their children, to the children who despite it all become artists, writers, teachers, doctors, lawyers, activists and rebels. Here’s to Western Union and Money Gram. For never forgetting home. Here’s to their children who carry the heartbeats of their motherland and even in sleep, speak with pride about their fathers. Keep on.
