what normies who never worked a real job don’t understand is that the people who work on behalf of doordash, uber, instacart etc are “independent contractors” and not “employees.” this is a legal loophole that the capitalist class exploits so they can relish in the good ol days before labor laws. labor laws do not apply to these people. they are functionally slaves. they lose money the longer it takes to make the delivery. they do not get workers comp, they have no civil rights protections, no PTO, no health insurance, minimum wage law does not apply to them and they earn pennies. these companies offset labor costs onto customers and have been lobbying the government so they don’t have to change the legal classification of their rent-a-peasants to W2, which confers labor law protections. service workers are exploited by both the capitalist and the customer. there is a reason most of the working class in the US shifted away from manufacturing to the service industry. historically this sector of the workforce did not have as widespread of a union push. if enough of them all unionized or stopped working this country would go up in flames and frankly i’d love to see it. you as the customer deserve absolutely nothing.
