One of my sound module assessments was to create a soundscape of a place. I thought that the sounds of a kitchen while cooking are really interesting, so this is the result after editing.

One of my sound module assessments was to create a soundscape of a place. I thought that the sounds of a kitchen while cooking are really interesting, so this is the result after editing.
A required assesment for my sound module is to produce an edited interview with someone who has to say something to the Brighton & Hove community. For my interview, i interviewed Bradley a second-year student at the University of Sussex. Bradley is disabled and he uses a wheelchair. Listen to what he suggest to Brighton & Hove community.
FINAL WEEKS - PROJECT WORKING
The finals weeks of the term found me working on my project, interview, sound scape and critical introductions.
During the recording for my kitchen soundscape - Holding a K6 microphone :
Trip at the BBC with the UNITV
At the end of November we made tour trip at BBC studios and radio with the Sussex student television society. It was a very interesting trip since i saw how drama radio is made and also how sound fx are created with simple object (folley studio).
DELIA ANN DERBYSHIRE
As part of the module, we had to make a presentation about an important person in the sound industry. The person I made the presentation on was Delia Ann Derbyshire. She was the first woman to work for the Radiophonic workshop and a pioneer in electronic music. She was very important for BBC and also created the soundtrack for 'Doctor Who'
Here iss the link for my presentation in cooperation with another sound student: https://prezi.com/nmxf7str5cwe/delia-ann-derbyshire/
MICROPHONES
During the module I was introduced to different kinds of microphones:
Sennheiser Dynamic Handheld Mic
AKG 414 Condensor Studio Microphone
Shotgun microphone
During my sound module at the University of Sussex we were asked to make an edited interview. In order to do that I first had to practice. So I interviewed a greek friend of mine on campus practicing my skills on editting.
Transforming the typical sounds of an elevator. Experimental sounds-practicing.
WEEK 4 - Introduction to sound booths
Using a contact microphone i recorded different sounds, then i edited them and ended up with my own experimental sound similar to those produced in the radiophonic workshop
RADIOPHONIC WARKSHOP - CLASS EXERCISE
As part of the class work we were asked to create our own experimental sounds similar to those created in the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. In order to do that we used contact microphones. These are microphones designed to sense audio vibrations through solid objects.
WEEK 3 - BBC RADIOPHONIC WORKSHOP
Week 3 was very interesting! We learned about the Radiophonic Warkshop (The BBC Radiophonic Workshop, one of the sound effects units of the BBC, was created in 1958 to produce effects and new music for radio.)
My first soundwalk on Brighton Pier. EJOY!
WEEK 2 - Sound Walk
In week 2 we have learn about sound walks. A soundwalk is an excursion whose main purpose is listening to the environment.
As homework I was asked to create my own soundwalk in an area of Brighton. So i chose to record a sound walk on the very interesting Brighton Pier. I believe Brighton Pier has so many interesting sounds, for example the sea, seagulls, children playing, songs, game sounds etc.
So I booked a marrantz recorder and went to the city to record:
SOUNDCLOUD
As the module requires, today I signed up in Soundcloud. It is an online audio platform that people can upload their original created sounds. The purpose for my account is to post experimental works with sound and homework. This is my account: https://soundcloud.com/antonios-kotsonias . I look forward to upload sounds created by me.
My first experience with sound : UNITV
I first experienced a proper sound recording when I joined the UniTV (University of Sussex Student Television) at the end of September. It was a music session day and they asked for people to volunteer.
So I grabbed the opportunity and went to the studio to contribute without any prior skills in sound capturing. I do not remember what microphones we used but there were two, using the stereo system. I clearly remember the recorder though. It was a Marantz Professional system.
Other UniTv members were setting everything up when they gave me the Marantz recorder to control the sound level in one of the artisist songs. A weird feeling conquered me, hopping not to mess things up as it was the first time I was using it. Luckily everything went well and UniTV used the footage ending up with this result : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQRgsX34F8s
Week 1- Introduction to Adobe Audition
My first impression about Audition software were not the best. There are a lot of unknown buttons but hopefully week by week and with practice i will gain the appropriate skills that are required to complete my assessments. We have also analysed the projects for the end of the term.
1) A 3minute edited interview. 2) A 3-5minute edited soundscape 3) Critical introductions for both interview and soundscape.
Interesting projects but i better start improving my skills on Audition software.
