Summary: Law is running himself head first into the ground, again, and you decide to break the cycle before that happens

Law was almost always a little tense. Blame it on life, blame it on his nature but there was always something level of tension just below the surface. This however was a whole other level of stress. The seas were rough and there seemed to be a new challenge to overcome every day. Every struggle adding to the growing weight of expectation for him to get them all through as whole as possible.
This was the kind of constant pressure that led to the constant rolling of shoulders or stretching against his desk, trying in vain to get his back to stop the persistent ache. Of course he was still also spending hours hunched over notes at his desk or pacing the halls, arms folded and shoulders tight. So the race to relieve tension was an uphill battle, as always.
You were starting to lose count of the number of times you had found him asleep, slumped forward over yet another document or map, only for him to wake the next morning rigid and stiff and struggling through the day, only made worse by the rough seas.
It came to a head after one of those nights. It was the early hours of the morning and you hadn't seen him in who knows how long. So, it wasn’t a surprise to find him propped up at his desk, head in his hands and eyes still scanning something in front of him. Brows furrowed in concentration and his hair disheveled, there was a certain appeal to Law when he was running on fumes. Except of course, for the concerning lack of sleep and totally break of his usual patterns.
None of this would be nearly as worrying if he would at least explain what he was even hunting for with these stress reads. But of course he was dodging questions until he had better answers. Which he wasn't so sure he was any closer to finding. That in itself would be worrying if he was anyone else, but for Law, it felt like something to be expected.
A moment after the door opened his attention slowly shifted to you, a slow turn of the head to keep reading before his eyes met yours. The familiar draw pulled at his focus, the world melted into you. The worry and hint of exhaustion in your own expression did make his chest ache. It was a safe assumption that you were only up because he still was.
He could send you back to bed with the usual vague promise that he would be there soon. What soon meant was really anyone’s guess these days but he didn’t like the idea of neither of you getting a real night's sleep. Before he could get the words out though you cut him off.
“You need to sleep, Law.”
“I will. When I can.”
“Will you humor me? I’m trying to help.”
Law turned to face you properly, sighed, and decided it was easier to at least go along for the night. The look on your face less tired and now reflected something steely and determined that he unfortunately always found incredibly attractive.
Slowly, stiffly, he got up, stretching with a pained groan and motioned for you to lead the way. Already the call of bed and a proper night sleep was sounding more appealing. Especially if it meant waking up next to you again, it was one of the things he missed most when he was so off schedule like this.
It was quiet on the ship as he followed you back to the room, the silence of it all already making him itch to be doing something more to get ready for the coming weeks. There was always something more to be doing, and he was tired of being mostly prepared for threats. Your hand wrapped around his wrist, catching the way his steps had slowed behind you and unwilling to let him worm his way back to another sleepless night in the name of preparation.
When, after what felt like a small eternity, you managed to actually get him into his room it felt like nothing shy of a miracle. Even stepping into the dimly lit and totally silent room it was like he was shedding layers of stress and uncertainty, the feeling only solidifying when the door clicked closed behind the pair of you.
Once you had him alone the other half of the plan began. An operation aimed at not only getting him to sleep but to let you take care of him like he derived, just for a little while at least. In the silent and the dim light you guided him to the bed. Intense and exhausted eyes focused only on you, making it easy to begin the next stage of the plan.
Law hardly resisted when you pulled his shirt over his head. There were raised eyebrows but whatever came next he doubted he would have an issue with. You were one of the few people who he could trust his life with, whatever you wanted he would give.
You clearly hadn't anticipated getting this far without a little bit of a fight. Which was a fair assumption, normally he would be alert enough to either see through your schemes. Sometimes even being the one to pull you to bed. Tonight though he was too foggy to keep up and you were forced to spell out that you wanted to give him a massage. And admittedly, he wasn’t sure you'd ever sounded so embarrassed about it.
Usually when you wanted to wage war on the tension in his back you just demanded he let you. Or if he was really lucky, you'd just start rubbing his shoulders while he worked. So this was new, and sweet.
Of course he settled into the bed almost immediately after to give you access to his back. And almost immediately you settled on top of his legs, effectively pinning him to the bed below you.
At first there was nothing. Just your warmth and weight and the stillness of the room. Then slowly your touch began, feather light and it felt like a single finger racing along his bare skin. It was shy compared to how you usually touched him.
And whether you were aware of it or not there was a lessened tension in your own body the second you touched him. Like your touch was somehow healing both of you in this moment.
It took a moment for it to register that you were tracing his tattoo, lightly, no preassue just yet. He shifted, adjusting beneath you suddenly restless again under your sole focus for the first time in what might have been weeks. Not quite self aware but very aware of himself, his body, and you. He stilled again when you pressed the palm of your hand frimly between his shoulders.
The second your hands met his bare skin with real pressure, Law melted. It wasn’t anywhere close to enough for it to matter but you could feel the tension seep out of him. The weight of you on his legs and your gentle attention was already making it hard to keep his eyes open. Which was partly the goal after all, he needed a real night's sleep.
Slowly you started working at the tension in his shoulders and he melted completely into your touch. The first goan that he let slip was down right filthy. He buried his face deeper into the bed, his voice breaking as an actual moan followed when you worked out a particularly nasty knot by the base of his neck.
His skin grew warmer under your touch as you worked, soft noises still occasionally slipping past his control as Law continued to melt both into your touch and the bed below him. Occasionally he would turn his head to glance up to watch you. The determination and amusement and every other micro expression that flashed over your beautiful features.
Even in the dark he was always taken back by how unfairly attractive you were, everything about you took his breath away. In the sudden quiet of his mind it wasn’t hard to see how worried you, and probably everyone else, had been. He swore he'd make an effort to not let it get this bad again, though he knew it was likely not to last. It was worth the attempt.
Eventually you slowed, making one last pass over where the worst of the tension and knots had been before settling against him, a hand still idly tracing over the lines of ink and the occasional scar. And you were more than happy to stay like that until one, but preferably both, of you finally fell asleep.
Law however, now free from your weight and waking just a little with the stillness of the room, moved faster than he looked capable of in his tired state. Your back flushed to his chest and wrapped frimly in his arms. A slow lingering kiss pressed into your temple, then your cheek and finally your neck. The familiar drag of his facial hair and fanning of his breath over skin as he went. He left his face buried against your skin and you felt the murmur of thank you more than you actually heard it.
When the morning did come, you woke still in his bed and still wrapped in his arms. It was something you both had missed more than words could express.

Koby missed you from the moment he left your home. He would watch until the island disappeared from his view, and then just a little while longer, at least until he really did need to return to his duties. But he never liked it, sure he could call but you both had busy lives and he really wasn’t looking for the embarrassment of sneaking around to get ahold of you. Especially if it risked certain people finding out about you before he really wanted to bring it up.
It was so early in the relationship and he wasn’t sure you wanted that sort of attention from his friends, let alone the public. So he wasn’t exactly sneaking around, he just wasn’t exactly spelling it out to everyone. It was a strange grey area but he wasn’t exactly a stranger in working in those sorts of situations anymore.
Working in the area also gave him plausible deniability that he was only stopping by for you. Which was still mostly true but was enough cover for him to buy a few nights hanging out with you in town. And that was always worth a little bit of risk.
So once he got into port and his work was actually done he made his way straight to the usual meeting spot. He hadn’t had as much time as he would normally have liked to give you a heads up but he had managed to get you a message. Still, no surprise that he was the first one in the little side street near the restaurant you first met at.
Which wasn’t a bad thing since it let him actually decompress and do some people watching as the sun began to set. His attention landed mostly on the couples he spotted passing him by and totally lost in each other. As always he started to wonder, dating a marine was hard enough for most people even when they had a permanent base of operations. He couldn’t imagine how stressful things had to be for you sometimes.
He was hardly ever around and he couldn’t talk about his work in actual detail so he couldn’t even get into the deep talks about work and life and the future that some of these other marines could. And like he always did when his thoughts wandered like this, Koby started to feel the guilt and the doubt and the fear of his own selfishness.
Though they didn’t have long to take hold before you appeared almost out of nowhere, arms thrown around him and dragging him back into the present. One look at your smiling face and those nagging thoughts were easily shoved into the back corners of his mind. He could worry about all that another time.
It always amazed him how easily you put him at ease, Koby wasn’t the most tense man in the world but he had a history of letting panic get under his skin and drive his decision making. Never when you were around though, it was like everything seemed to make sense. It was one of the best things about you. Other than you being the most gorgeous woman he had ever seen.
He wasn’t surprised to feel the familiar warmth inching up his neck and into the tips of his ears, not like he could help it when someone so pretty was so close. He could smell your perfume and knew it would cling to him for as long as he let it, which was never as long as he hoped he could risk it.
His mind still racing with your sudden appearance he didn’t really think before kissing you. Normally he would have at least taken a glance around but it had been months, too many months, and he missed you. Missed being in your peaceful little world more than you could imagine.
That longing bled into the way he was kissing you, tender and desperate and a lot messier than he normally kissed you. It was like he was afraid this would be his last real chance to do it. And you still matched him, hand in his hair and still wrapped around him. He melted into you even deeper, letting you lead him in this stolen moment just off a busy street.
A low whistle snapped him back to his surroundings, the world suddenly becoming loud and vibrant and no longer just you and him. He had been flushed before but seeing the slowly retreating, grinning face of Helmeppo vanishing with the passing crowd.
Now fully embarrassed and very aware that he was going to have to have a long and likely painful conversation about this when they met back up in the morning, he stole a glance back down at you. Half laughing he did his best to assure you that it wasn’t a huge deal that you had been caught. Though now the pair of you would probably be better off getting ahead of rumors and keeping this as quiet as possible.
But that was another problem for the morning. Right now he just wanted to get dinner with you and enjoy the rest of his time away from it all. And though he spent most of the night together apologizing for the embarrassment like you had been the one to get called out by a friend.
The rest of the evening was spent like it always was, cuddled up together catching up as much as possible and enjoying the peace and quiet of a night in together that Koby only got once every few months. His last thought before his own exhaustion and the warmth of you against him pulled him off to sleep was that tomorrow was going to come way too fast and he was not looking forward to the knowing looks he was going to be getting for the foreseeable future. But even with all the embarrassment and teasing on the horizon moments like this with you were worth every second of it.
Guess who's been sick for the past few days. Have my self indulgent comfort. Apologies for anything I miss in my proofreads, I'm still on my cold meds at the time of posting.

Law
Law spent most of the night studying while you slept. In part to prepare if he ever encountered this again, it had been frustrating enough being stumped in the first place, he wanted to ensure it never happened again. To make sure he didn't fail you like this ever again.
The other, much more personal reason was because he couldn't stand the idea of sleeping and missing some update. Or the scenario that kept pressing the back of his mind that you'd wake up alone and sick and he would be off somewhere pretending to sleep and totally unaware.
So here he was into the early morning pouring over the same passage for the third time and focusing on memorizing the information. Every once in a while watching the steady rise and fall of your chest to reassure himself. You were stable. You were going to be okay.
He had moved onto another study by the time you started to stir in the bed behind him. Rubbing sleep from his eyes to see Law pouring over something at a desk in the far corner of the room. His back was to you but you could practically feel the exhaustion radiating off of him.
Propping yourself up as best as you could and shaking off the last of the fatigue your own body was struggling against.
“You stayed.”
“You're awake.”
Law's attention snapped to the sound of your voice, not missing the raw and rough quality of it or the weariness in your movements. You did sound significantly better but still not right.
He approached slowly like he was worried you would combust if he moved top quickly. Which was equal parts annoying and endearing. Only when you took his hand did whatever was racing behind those hardened eyes calmed and his expression softened.
Pressing the back of his hand to your still feverish forehead and brushing a loose hair from your face. You seemed better as far as he could tell but it was still a little frustrating that he was only mostly certain.
He heaved a sigh, exhausted physically and mentally but reassured that you were at least alert. He let himself slump forward to rest your head on the bed beside you. Tension melting from him as your free hand carded through his hair.
Another sigh, this one much softer as he leaned into your touch. Relieved that the pain in the ass disease you contracted was incredibly hard to transfer. He wasn’t sure he could be this level headed if he wasn't allowed to at least check in on you for himself. A small part of him bristled at the very thought.
Law spoke again. His voice muffled by the bed and his consciousness rapidly fading between the stillness of his mind and your gentle attention.
“I couldn't stand the idea of not being here when you woke up.”
Crocodile
Crocodile didn't often express real concern. It wasn't that he didn't care for you, quite the opposite really. But often his business took priority and it kept him occupied. Tonight, though, would be one of the rare exceptions to that.
He sat at the end of your bed, ever the commanding presence. Every doctor that entered your room to run another test felt the intense focus of his eyes tracking every movement. They were the best he could find last minute but the team he had assembled was allegedly the best money could buy. Considering he wasn’t a medical expert for their sake the better live up to their reputation.
Despite there being very little for Crocodile to actually do in your room he was still refusing calls. He had partners who could answer the phone for a night. Especially considering he hadn't seen you move on your own for the better part of two days now. Whatever you had contracted had worked fast and from what he gathered was nasty. Not that he needed a doctor to point that out considering how fast you deteriorated.
Despite his best efforts to be present when you woke up, because you had to wake up, a report had been delivered to your room. And admittedly there wasn't much else for him to be doing while he waited.
Of course you chose to regain your consciousness while he was buried in work. He hadn't made it though a handful of pages before he felt eyes on him. Just the tiniest bit propped up to see him better.
“You didn't have to stay.”
“Don't be ridiculous.”
His response came out as more of a scoff than he intended but the idea that he stayed out of some sense of obligation rather than genuine desire was laughable. He didn’t do something if it was outside of his own interest.
The packet was tossed lazily on the table beside him as he stood from his seat at the foot of the bed. Now towering over you, you were forced to lay back to maintain eye contact, which had been part of the goal. The other was allowing him to get just that little bit closer so that he could get a better look at you.
It was hard to say if your fever had broken but you looked less like death than you had last night. Which meant the doctors he brought in had been worth the expenses afterall, not that he would have actually paid them if anything had happened to you of course.
Your hand slipped from the blankets, gently taking hold of his wrist. You felt warm but not in the terrifying way it had only a few short hours ago when he had last held you. It was the familiar warmth that always came with your touch. And that more than anything put his mind at ease for the time being.
“There isn’t anywhere else I need to be.”
Marco
Marco wasn’t worried, well not as worried as he had been the night before. Had he brought in extra eyes to check on you? Absolutely, but that was because you got so sick so fast that he felt like he was already hours behind by the time he actually tried to help. That was the problem with some of these islands, you never knew what random insect or plant could mean life or death if you didn’t act fast enough.
It didn’t help that he was now running on next to no sleep between you and his other duties mixed with the stress of it all, he wasn’t running at full capacity no matter how many times he insisted he was fine.
Still that didn’t stop him from finally collapsing into a chair beside you when he was finally done for the night. You made no acknowledgement that he was there, which was sort of to be expected given your current state. He hadn’t seen you move in at least the last day and a half, which was killing him but other than your unconscious state you seemed mostly fine. Running warmer than he would like but nothing else could be done this second.
He had spent hours trying to pin point exactly what had gone wrong with next to no luck. Surprisingly these rare mystery illnesses were very poorly documented and he had hit a dead end days ago. There was truly nothing more than could be done for you but wait and see. Which was frustrating on a level he couldn't begin to express.
But maybe it was the idea of having nothing to do for a while that finally pushed his exhausted body into sleep as well. It was far from a restful night's sleep, the creeping feeling that he hadn’t really wanted to rest was pulling at the back of his mind and infiltrating his dreams. Which might be why your faint voice snapped him so fully awake.
“Marco? You’re still here?”
“Course I am.”
He was mostly slumped out of the chair and adjusted himself to properly meet your eyes in the now darkened room. It was past midnight now judging by the pale moonlight that streamed through the windows. Which meant that he had gotten maybe three hours of sleep since he sat down.
None of that really mattered, you were awake and watching him with the sort of concern he had been aiming at you for the past few days. You still looked foggy though, not entirely focused when your eyes met. Not that it was really a cause for alarm, you had just lost the better part of a week to the stupid fever and had been fully unconscious for a solid chunk of that.
Marco leaned in, dragging the chair with him, to get a better look at you. Up close it was harder to miss the slowed reaction to movement around you but your face was much less flushed, overall a massive improvement to the limp form that he had watched all last night. That he had worried over for days on end at this point. His hand rested on your freed arm as he spoke.
“Gald to see you’re back in the land of the living, but never scare me like that again.”
Having a lot of fun writing these, this is the last one I have planned so I hope you enjoy!

You were always with Ace, at least in spirit, he carried you with him in the memories and in the reflections across the surface of the sea. Not that it made it any easier to actually be apart from you for long periods of time. The only thing that helped with that ache fully was the times he could spare to meet with you.
Not that it was hard to track you down with his connections, planning a meeting was as simple as a call most of the time. Which is exactly how he had met with you this time around. He had been only a day away by the time he received word that your ship would be in port for a few days.
He didn’t always have the luxury of taking a day or two to rest but now, for you? He could make that work; he wasn't exactly coming up with any new leads in his hunt and he was admittedly running on fumes at this point. A break with a pretty girl was exactly what the doctor had ordered at this point. So he had landed in port two days ago and spent the better part of that time with you generally glued to your side.
Which was nice, except for the usual experience of getting pinned under him in his sleep and melting as his body threw heat like a living furnace. It was always a little bit of a wonder that he never woke when you pried yourself out from underneath him and out into the much cooler parts of the bed. Only to wind up right back underneath him when your sleeping bodies found each other once more.
Today was his last day with you, you and the crew were setting off and he was catching a ride with another part of the fleet so it would be another goodbye with the promise to see each other soon. But with the way things were going, who knew how long soon would be this time. Not that either of you would dwell on it for very long.
You were happy to spend the last of your time together just as glued together as always. Ace always had to be touching you, an arm around your shoulders, holding your hand, leaning against you while you stopped in a shop. Something to brand himself back into your skin so you could carry that with you until he got to see you again.
While you walked beside him Ace could feel the drag in your feet, the hesitation as the port slowly came into view, the beginning of your goodbye approaching on the horizon. And he didn’t rush you, didn’t push you to keep the pace. Of course he wanted more time with his girl. He always wanted more, could never possibly get enough of you.
But slow as it came eventually the sound of your steps changed as you moved from solid stone pathways to the familiar hollow echo of a dock. The wind whipping more aggressively as the pair of you moved from the shelter of town further towards the sparkling sea.
Just shy of where you were supposed to part ways he stopped you, looking out to the ocean for a long moment before refocusing back onto you. His dark eyes scanning your face, memorizing every detail one last time. He had never been good at goodbyes, was even worse at them when it came to you. Words never felt like enough, thankfully it looked like you understood his internal struggle.
Before he could find something to say, you were kissing him. There was no gentle build in this kiss, your hands on the back of his neck, pulling him down to properly to meet your lips. The kiss was a demand for just a little longer with him. Something bordering on desperate in every movement. A damn of care and worry and love breaking in a single action. Spontaneous and all consuming as the flames that burned within him.
Ace met you there, in that desperation for more time, a plea for you to be safe, to come back to him. But it wasn’t enough. He pulled you more firmly into his arms and effortlessly lifted you off the ground into his arms. Your legs wrapping around him on instinct. Never once did he pull away from that kiss, he couldn't let the moment end when he felt like it had just started.
Holding you so close he could feel your heart racing against his chest. He wished he could tattoo that into his skin, brand that feeling into his for as long as he lived. If he could stay here forever he would. Here in this moment with you he was a whole person, someone who was loved. And someone who loved you so much it hurt sometimes to be away from you. He tried to make sure you understood, to get you to feel it as much as he could the longer the kiss went on.
A high pitched whistle snapped you both apart as you glanced up to see Marco leaned against the rail, his usual lazy smile stretched across his features and joined by a handful of the others. Ace let you down gently, shooting an annoyed glance back up to the ship, shooing the others away. And they did back off, not quietly, whistles and laughter with the occasional call over the ship echoed down.
The hint of annoyance mixed with embarrassment Ace returned his full attention to you. Finally ready to actually part ways once more. He pressed one last lingering kiss to your temple one last promise to see each other soon. He didn’t make a move to board the ship behind him until he was certain you were safe on your own. One last wave as he watched you disappear into the glare of the early morning sun. Even as they sailed out he watched you until the horizon swallowed you entirely.
Written with a very dear friend in mind. And to give him some much needed love.
Summary: A rare slow day on The Sunny means that cooking comes with far too many distractions.
Paring: Sanji x female reader
Tags: Fluff, caught in the act, female gendered language, not beta read
Word count: 1k
Rain was pounding on the windows outside and most of the crew had retreated inside. Sanji thankfully had avoided most of the rain by sheer luck. He had stepped inside to start lunch maybe five minutes before the dark clouds gave way to heavy drops of rain. It apparently wasn’t anything to worry about compared to some of the storms they had weathered in the past week. Which was nice enough to know but probably did very little for you, who had unfortunately gotten pretty soaked in your attempt to make it inside.
If it wasn’t still coming down so hard you probably could have made a dash for your room for dry clothes. As it was sitting in the warm kitchen in damp clothing sounded like the better option. Especially since it meant being draped in Sanji's jacket. He hadn’t given you a choice in the matter, not that you would have objected.
Of course that meant his perfect girlfriend was seated across from him, wrapped in his clothes and watching him with an intensity that was frankly a little intimidating. He wasn’t sure that you had ever actually sat and watched him like this, sure you were in the kitchen with him often enough but usually you were focused on something other than him while he worked. It was - distracting.
He found himself having to double check his next step more than normal which was only adding to his heightened awareness that he had an audience to impress. With effort he forced himself back into the work with his full focus. And that was working for a while it really was. Until you decided to get up.
You loved watching Sanji work, no matter what he was working on. He always put so much of himself into something he was passionate about and that was always the most evident when he was cooking. The concentration alone was impressive, the care in each step, the steadiness in his hands. It was all part of what made him so damn good at what he did, and what made him so attractive when he did it.
Which was why it was especially flattering to see him struggling to keep that usual focus with you more obviously watching him. Not that you weren’t always watching him, this was just the most obvious you could possibly be about it. And seeing just how much you were distracting him only encouraged you to become even more of a problem.
Slipping from your seat to move to his side of the island, not getting in his way but certainly closer to him. It wasn’t surprising to see him pause to watch you slowly approaching, staying out of his way of course just getting a much bitter view of him hard at work.
Sanji, for his part, wasn't about to kick you out of his space, it wouldn’t kill them to wait a little while for their lunch for once. A man was allowed to get a little distracted when a beautiful woman was so insistent on watching him work after all. Of course he also wasn’t so naive to miss the game you were playing here. His hands planted firmly on the counter and his full attention now on you.
A moment later you were beside him, warmth radiating in the space between your bodies. Your focus still on his hands supporting him on the counter, watching as he shifts to lift a hand to your face. Then ever so gently tilting your chin to actually look at him. Amusement across his features when you finally locked eyes.
Then he was kissing you, slowly, tenderly like it was the last time he would ever get to. His body shifting to cage you between himself and the counter. Your clothes were still cool and damp from the rain, the smell of it clung to you and mixed with the familiar sweet aroma he associated with you.
No matter who started these moments, it was always Sanji who melted the most into every kiss. Every stolen moment with you like this was just as perfect as the last, as comfortable and familiar as the weight of his lighter in his pocket. He was home when your arms wrapped around him, pulling him closer, drowning him in you.
He would never get over the way your bodies fit together, like you were made for him, made to complete him. As far as he was concerned there was nobody in the world more perfect than you for him, more easy to be himself around. Nobody who kissed him like this, like you were just as afraid that he would slip through your fingers too. Like if you stoped kissing him he would cease to exist.
Which, thankfully was not the case as the door banged open and he pulled away from you like he had been shocked. Reflexily he moved you so he stood between you and the door, ready to handle any threat.
Of course this time the threat was his own idiot captain who always seemed to have the absolute worst timing when it came to the pair of you. The number of times that Luffy had barged into a room totally unexpectedly when you two were trying to have a quiet moment was simply unfair at this point.
And of course it was because he couldn’t wait another ten minutes to eat something and he just had to come running in and ruin a beautiful romantic moment. As always the worst part was the immediate laughter once Luffy actually figured what he had stumbled into. Of course Luffy making a scene also drew most of the crew so no it was a mess of red faces and arguing and general chaos that came with anything on this damn ship.
But Sanji really couldn’t complain as he caught you, still very clearly flustered, standing with the girls and still smiling. You caught him watching and your smile widened and he could live with the embarrassment as long as you kept looking at him like that.

Law had thought he was pretty good at secrets. Especially when it came to you. He hadn't wanted to keep things a secret for this long but it was probably for the best. He wasn't without enemies and he wasn’t an idiot.
You were one of his biggest weaknesses even if he would be loathed to admit that to your face. Not that it was really a secret to you. The fact that he was still keeping the whole relationship a secret this far into it spoke volumes. Not that Law was ever the most forthcoming with his personal life to begin with.
Still, his weakness came with many perks. Namely that he sometimes really had a hard time saying no to you. Which is how he found himself in this situation. Alone with you on the ship. For the first time in who knows how long. At your carefully worded suggestion of course.
The pair of you were in pretty cramped quarters in one of the storage rooms together. If anyone happened across you it was a pretty innocent situation, which was supposed to be the goal.
But you hadn't been this close to him in weeks. Especially since he had been back, not alone anyways. It was hard to miss the way he froze for a half second the first time you brushed against him reaching for something in the too tight space. You could feel his breathing stop every time you got close after that. Which might be why it kept happening more and more as minutes ticked by.
Eventually he stopped his attempt to actually count the supplies in the box in front of him after another deliberate brush of your body against his. He wasn’t even sure how many times he had to start over anymore. The longer he was in here the harder it was to focus even without your teasing.
His head had been filled with you the second the door closed, the familiar scent of you was all that filled his head anymore, the warmth of you just behind him, it was too damn much. Especially after being away so long, not knowing if he would ever get to see you again.
But fate or luck or by the grace of his inherited will he was here, with you, alone and very much alive. And he was tired of playing it careful, at least in this moment, nothing stayed in the dark forever. And he was sick of missing you, especially when you were right next to him.
His hand caught your arm, smirking when he heard your breath catch, and turned you to face him properly. It wasn’t a graceful thing in the tight space but it left your face inches from his own and that was already an improvement.
He had lived a chaotic life and met people from all over the sea, still he hadn’t ever met anyone who looked at him the way you did. Hadn’t met a woman more beautiful than you or that understood him the way you did. How he tricked you into being here with him was beyond his comprehension.
He wasn’t sure who started to move first, not that it mattered. What mattered was he was kissing you again, his hand cupping your jaw and pulling you into him. The need to be closer was all that filled his mind. His free hand frimly locked around your waist pulling you ever more into him.
Your hands on him, the warmth of your body, the way your lips parted for him, it was all he had dreamt of for weeks. If he could freeze one moment of his life forever this one here with you would have to be high on the list of choices. Feeling your shared pulse thudding in and against his chest made him whole for just that moment.
The door was flung open unceremoniously, light poured in temporarily blinding the pair of you as you awkwardly stepped as far back from each other as possible. Law’s hand gripping your arm to help you balance. His free hand flew to cover his face as his eyes adjusted, unable or unwilling to look back at the doorway. He could feel the clawing heat of embarrassment starting at the base of his neck.
Of course it had to be them, of all the crew that would find him like this it had to be these two. And to their credit Shachi and Penguin were trying to keep their composure though it wasn’t going to last. Already their forced stoicism was cracking as they made their apologies and walked as casually as they could back the way they came, announcing as they went that they had in fact found the captain. And making sure not to give him the chance to get a word in before they escaped.
Word spread fast as was to be expected of a small crew living in tight quarters, but more than that it was less the revelation of new information and the confirmation of something almost all of them had managed to pick up on at one point or another. As much as Law thought he was good at keeping the secret, his subtle mood shift in your presence had been a strong start towards speculation.
What actually solidified the crew in the validity of the rumor wasn’t nearly as subtle, it was the way the captain’s jaw clenched when he overheard any comment about you and just how pretty you are. It didn’t matter where it came from or seemingly how little attention he was paying, there were always the tell tale signs of annoyance when it came to someone else taking notice of you.
And in fairness Law should have known they had some idea when you were the one most often volunteered to ask the captain for something that he was unlikely to approve of. Often you were the one sent to offer a change in the plan or pitch a change of port when he was set on a location. It wasn’t always a sure win, but it went better when it came from you rather than one of them.
It wasn’t the grand reveal Law had feared it would be but it was far from quiet, with many on the crew now sharing mortifying tip offs that both of you had missed over the course of the relationship. The night ending with Law’s head buried in his arms as he heard for the hundredth time that he was not nearly as subtle as he assumed he was.

Ace
Ace was, as far as he could guess, in trouble. The drunk stranger hanging off his shoulder was a dead give away that he maybe was going to hard at this party. But how often did he actually get to meet up with the other divisions? Especially right after he had seen another crazy story about his crybaby younger brother? As far as he was concerned he was well within his rights to enjoy himself.
That being said the looming sense of trouble came from said drunk stranger who seemed determined to cling to him. No matter how many times he gently shook them and ducked away they actually managed to find him again. Which would have been fine, if he wasn’t trying to be on his best behavior after not seeing you for months.
You, mercifully, hadn’t shown up yet. And he was hoping they would just pass out in a corner and leave him alone for the night. Of course as he had that though he caught a flash of someone who could only be you passing through the crowd. He tried again to ditch his shadow and hunt you down in the crowd.
Just his luck as he managed to track you down to one of the outskirts of the crowd his new best friend managed to glue themselves to his side yet again. Something that was really starting to get under his skin. Glancing back over at you his blood ran slightly cold, the look you were giving him spelled out that you were pissed. Admittedly the poor idiot was actually getting a little too touchy right at the second you looked over.
The timing truly couldn’t have been much worse. It was as if fate was mocking him at this point, sure he gets plenty of attention out there in the real world that doesn’t mean he likes to see it shoved in your face. And apparently that was a shared sentiment as you made your way towards him flowing seamlessly through the crowd.
Before he or his hanger on could react you had reached him and pulled him firmly by the wrist back towards your corner. Ace would have tried to come up with an answer if he wasn’t transfixed on your hand on his arm. That easy smile never really left his face while you all but full on pouted next to him for the next hour.
Whether you denied the pouting or not he knew what he saw. He was more than happy to spend the rest of the night with his arm glued over your shoulders which is where you had frimly placed it the second you stopped dragging him.
It was nice to be wanted, even nicer when you were the one red in the face over some nobody touching him at a party. He was especially aware of the occasional envious look he got from the crowd. Not that he really needed the reminder that he was the lucky one here. Especially when he got to rub it in the guys’ faces every now and then.
Sabo
Sabo can be clueless, especially when it comes to flirting. Especially when it comes to telling who is flirting with him. It has something he’s missed almost every time it happens to him. Which frankly makes him very lucky you were willing to spell it out for him in the first place. And he is grateful that you actually spelled it out for him in the end because he does adore you.
That being said you really cannot hold it against him when it comes to seemingly let other people hit on him right in front of you. He has no clue it’s happening until you’re butting in and shooing off whoever has overstepped this time around.
As much as he likes to think he has great insight this is apparently where his worst blindspot is. Which is great for work purposes, not so great for the much more social ones he sometimes has to do his best to blend into. Sometimes he manages not to sprint off ahead and get himself in some situations.
This was not one of those times. He was doing some recon work and getting a general idea of the layout of the city they were going to attempt to work out for this next mission. And it seemed like it was going well. Nobody seemed to have picked up on who he really was under his cover identity of friendly tourist.
Of course he wasn’t going to say no to the one local who he had seemed to form a solid connection with when they offered to take him on a tour of the city. It seemed like it was either going to be an easy trap to spring or legitimately good information he could send back to the base. Easy win win in his mind.
Of course he thought it was a little weird when they offered him an arm while they walked but he also wasn’t sure it wasn’t just a friendly gesture. He didn’t know how things worked here and he didn’t want to blow it already if it was a bigger deal that he was anticipating to refuse.
Of course it did wind up just being a very friendly local who wanted to show him around and left him with an invitation to see each other again soon if he would be in town for a few days. Sabo left feeling pretty good about the whole afternoon.
Until he met back up with you and the team. It shouldn't have been a shock to see you shooting him daggers from the back of the group. It was pretty adorable to see you so worked up even if it took you all but beating it into his head to get through to him that he almost went on an actual date with that stranger.
And of course with that easy nature it takes him almost no effort to remind you that you don’t have a reason to worry, even if it is the nice occasional ego boost. He does make it up to you with an actual night out the first chance he gets of course.
Luffy
Luffy is the worst when it comes to being aware when anyone is wanting his attention. That admittedly extends to you half the time. Unfortunately one of the few things he never misses is when you are jealous. Mostly because he thinks it is hilarious every single time. It’s never as big a deal as it is to you as it is to him. Not because he doesn’t care about how you feel but because he doesn’t care about what the other person wants.
Of course this also means he’s not paying attention when it starts. When some random person runs up, taking his attention and dragging him off in some vain attempt to keep his attention. And of course it works for a while, they’re talking his ear off about some legend or famous hero and he’s all in for the conversation. The problem comes when the stories end. And they always have to end.
Then Luffy’s focus goes back to whatever he was doing immediately beforehand. Only to run right into you, forever stuck as his babysitter. He doesn’t catch the change in mood right away, the need to relay the information he just learned to you like he discovered it all on his own. Raw excitement rolls off him in waves and only when you manage to stay reserved does he slow down.
Normally he’s used to you at least getting a laugh out of his raw excitement, or poor attempt to tell the story. But your eyes keep shifting to the stranger who had trailed along, still watching him as he spoke. That’s when it clicks for him.
And unfortunately he’s just looking between you and the poor stranger and hardly keeping his laughter contained. He’s a good way past you down the street before the damn breaks into full on laughter and glancing back at you. He’s trying to keep it together he really is but between your embarrassed face and the general confusion around him it’s hard to get himself to stop.
Once he actually gets himself together and you’ve managed to fall into step with him once more he states the obvious again that obviously even if they were actually flirting with him he didn’t really care. He wasn’t interested in anyone else and he sure wasn’t going to just abandon you for some random on the street that happened to catch his attention for a whole five minutes.
He doesn’t leave your side the rest of the day though. He might not get jealous the way you do but he isn’t so out of touch that he doesn’t understand that it has to suck to see a bunch of people pushing you away whether he wants them to or not. So he just proves his point through action, like he always does.
Not to mention he generally pesters you until he’s gotten you to smile genuinely once, just to make sure you’re still good. He might not be the best at showing how much you mean to him sometimes but he does care deeply that you know you’re important to him.
First and foremost, I just wanted to say that love the way you write so so so much!! It feels nuanced and complex even if it’s a short piece and I love that you give each character and story that much depth (also I love the “Base level angst for Law” tag, love it, yes), so thank you for writing the way you do and for sharing it with us.
I don’t know if you’re open to requests right now but if you are, how about a college au with law and the reader? I picture them being almost done with their degrees (or well, Law with his while she is pursuing a masters in health econ or epidemiology, something where one of his professors (Corazón) would be her research supervisor). So they meet at his office one day, he is sitting silently and waiting and she is trying to chat with him, she is smitten because *wolf-whistle*, it’s Law, and slowly they start talking more and bonding a little more (inside jokes, maybe leaving a couple of sweets in his lab coat for when he’s too tired and so) until she finally gets the courage to ask him out? I’m a sucker for grumpy x sunshine, and for hints of her thinking it’s unrequited but going for it anyway and just fluff fluff fluffff.
It would be awesome if you could write something along the lines but even if you don’t, I hope you know I’m very excited to see what you write next :)
Love, Daisy
Oh my goodness! Hello!!
Thank you so much for your incredibly kind words it means more than you know to have this come through this week! It makes me so happy that you like my works and thank you for the super sweet ask. I might have gotten a little carried away! I hope you like it!

Cw: Modern setting, meet cute kinda, to be expected Law angst, very fluffy, mutual pining, Law still calls Cora by the code name it felt wrong to use his real name, use of female pronouns, mild language
Law never doubted his desire to go into medicine, never crossed his mind that he would be anything other than a surgeon. Yet here he was, a month into his residency and more exhausted than he had been in his life. His brain was on auto pilot having the path to Cora’s office all but seared into his head. He was supposed to have been here an hour ago but he slept through his alarm, another first for the year.
He had tried texting but hadn’t heard back, which wasn’t unusual. For someone he had such blind faith in, Corazon had to be one of the hardest people he knew to get a hold of. Not that it really mattered. Law knew he was welcome, assuming he wasn’t actually doing office hours, but he shouldn’t be right?
Of course he hadn’t been thinking about the walk across campus, no longer an exhausted student but a much more sleep deprived resident. So naturally when he came to the closed door he only knocked once before pushing it open. And just as quickly slammed it closed when he saw a student sitting at his desk. He hadn’t caught much of what was actually happening in the room other than her slowly turning to look up at him, eyes a little wide and a mix of amusement and surprise on the stupid bastard’s face.
Of course he heard about it, trying to ignore the burning in his ears every time he actually made it during lunch breaks. Along with the constant reminders that nobody told him that he had to make every appointment they set. Which was in fact true but not something Law was really ready to consider. If growing up meant not stopping by for an annoying lunch or getting teased into leaving, it wasn’t something he was really ready to accept just yet.
Which is why he made a point to get into the office early this time. Actually checked his watch while he sped walked across the grounds. Even somehow managing to be the first one to the office. Settling himself in the empty seat closer to the wall and himself sag against it with his eyes closed.
Only to jerk awake once more when there was a gentle knock at the door and the protest of the hinges as it swung open. Only to see her again, how he recognized her was beyond him in that moment, the poor student he had stormed in on. This time she was staring at him, her eyes widening in surprise. A heartbeat of awkward silence, then another as his eyes stayed locked on hers, his brain trying to catch up and read her expression in the same second. He opened his mouth to speak but was interrupted by the door opening again as the most popular man on campus appeared in the doorway.
Law had been known as the brat for most of his childhood, normally as an adult it was met with an eyeroll when he was still introduced like some snot nosed kid as a man rapidly approaching his thirties. This time however caught him off guard especially when followed up with being a former student.
He had never considered himself a former student. He hadn’t taken a single one of Corazon’s classes. He had never really gone to him for school other than advice and the occasional spot to study or write on breaks. But then again would be in as good of a program if it wasn’t for the support and care he got.
Law wouldn’t sell himself short and say he wouldn’t have made it on his own but the fight would have been almost impossible. He wouldn’t have had the comfort to be the man he was now. And for that he was always going to owe the jerk who took him in and helped him limp through life.
Being introduced as a student was strange for him but the rush of color to her cheeks at being introduced as a prodigy was much worse. For the rest of time Law would wonder why he decided to run with it at that moment. He remembered her name in time, of course he would, that’s how meeting people went. But it was swapped with The Prodigy. Not some affectionate or playful nick name, but the fact that she was brilliant.
Law never really saw her all that often, not that he was counting their random lunch meet ups. He never knew of a plan to get them together but he wouldn’t put anything past the old man at this point. It wasn’t like he hadn’t mentioned that Law couldn’t self isolate for the rest of his life, or hadn’t been embarrassingly excited when he did eventually make friends in high school.
Even if it was planned it wasn’t constant and that’s what made it tolerable. Especially since he was actually really starting to look forward to the little comments she would mutter to him after another spilled coffee, another ruined book and another failed attempt to keep a straight face when Cora heard the usual derisive snort from across the desk. Which always led to laughter from her.
It became an easy rhythm at least once a month, running into her. She usually would talk his ear off or review her research like he wasn’t even there until he cut in with some snide remark about her prodigy status and getting called a brat in response. It was the sort of irritating that he had learned he was a little drawn to. Half of the people he would consider friends had once started off as annoying forced acquaintances. It was starting to look like he was about to start that cycle all over again.
A week into his night shift rotation he emerged from his blacked out room to make his way to his weekly lunch. It was a desperate attempt to keep normalcy in his life. Even if it meant a rough shift, he could handle it. Lack of sleep was a struggle he faced most of his young adult life and one more night of it wouldn’t kill him. Well, maybe in the long run but that wasn’t right now and there wasn’t much he could do about it anyways.
Because his schedule was so off he was early. Early enough that he actually caught the last ten minutes of a meeting though the cracked door. A review on some topic he was either too tired or too ill informed on to follow entirely. He caught phrases that should mean something to him but were lost on him, something around latency in the particular study.
The rest was lost on him, leaning against the wall and his eyes falling shut while he tried to think, tried to remember so he had a thing to add to the conversation if she chose to stay. He felt his head drop and he jolted awake in time to not be falling asleep in public in front of them.
It was hard to tell if she caught him, he was pretty sure he had been in the clear but the up and down look she gave him made Law a little less certain that he hadn’t made an idiot of himself in the hallway. A tiny rush of heat raced into his cheeks at the thought and was only made worse by his further embarrassment at blushing in the first place.
And of course she stayed. Of course she sat right by him while he talked about the struggles of sleeping on this new schedule and the fact that he had to take twice the notes he used to when he was working a case. Thankfully he hadn’t been pushed too far into the deep end, he was still holding his own between the gunners and the natural talents. He never looked at her, didn’t want to see the pity in her eyes when he whined about being less than compared to some of his peers.
He was sitting next to someone brilliant and just a year or two under him. It did not help that the longer he got to know her the harder it was to keep that wall up. He remembered a time when he couldn’t manage to hold a five minute conversation with her. And now she was asking him what he’d tried for his sleep schedule and if he liked the way some of the medications affected him.
And it finally clicked why this blinding light had been introduced to him as a prodigy. Yes she was smart, clearly had the right memory for medicine and the heart for it. She only knew him as the grumpy ass med student who showed up and sometimes talked to her. But she cared, actually cared. There needed to be more people in medicine like her.
He looked up when he answered, actually met her eyes even if he didn’t fully lift his head from his hands. And he talked about what he tried, what worked, what didn’t and what he was considering trying next. There wasn’t some magic solution she offered, just a radiant smile and a sincere hope that it worked better for him.
A little over a week later and Law was working his second week on overnights. He was digging through his bag for his pen at work only to come up with a brand new pen attached to a bar of caffeinated chocolate.
It really didn’t take much detective work to figure out where it had come from. Damn her for listening to his complaining. He pocketed the pen and made short work of the candy, annoyed that it wasn’t awful. Ever more annoyed that he had to force a smile off his face before returning to work.
Of course they hadn’t exactly exchanged numbers so he couldn’t actually thank the damn prodigy for her help. In fact he didn’t see her for lunch the next two weeks. Which is when he took matters into his own hands.
The next time Cora left him alone in the office he stole a sticky note and stuck it in the familiar binder he knew she would be coming back for. A messy scrawl with his number and brat printed underneath it he was satisfied she would at least reach out. At least he found himself really hoping she would. Even if his excuse for it was a little weak. Even if the idea of actually having a private conversation with her made his heart race more than he liked.
It took her another week to text him. Not that he was counting, or checking his phone enough to earn a comment or two when he was with friends. It was a mostly new experience for him, this level of nervous energy around another person. He wasn’t some cold hearted monster, he had noticed other people. Maybe had the beginnings of a crush on someone in the past but this felt different. This was looking at the sun, blinding and brilliant and warmer than he thought he could handle.
When his phone did finally vibrate in his pocket it was when we was well into his work shift that night, he took the second to check it and immediately shoved it back into his pocket seeing an unknown number. The actual message didn’t matter that second. Not when he was sure he wouldn’t be able to answer until the morning.
A part of him wondered if that was the plan. To torment him with a text he wouldn’t be able to answer for hours. But of course not, she couldn’t know that a text would mean anything to him. Surely she hadn’t noticed that he was more glued to the stupid thing than he had been in memory.
When he was free to check it wasn’t anything special, not on its face anyways. Not even a shot about him being a coward and passing his number in a note like a teenager. A simple, long time no see and asking if he’d actually slept this week. No grand kick off to the start of their text exchange, nothing like you’d see in some romantic comedy. Just genuine care and that creepy warmth even through the phone.
Law agonized over what to put her in as his contact. The stupid nickname would get questions if his friends saw it, her actual name would be worse. God forbid he meet a woman who even looked at him when it came to some of the group. So no, nothing that gave them a single thing to pry about. And as much as he generally disliked the modern emojis he couldn’t think of anything better than the sun.
And the more they texted the more it stuck in his head. Every once in a while she would send him a picture from some random part of her day, the sky, her coffee, sometimes he would catch her reflection mirrored in a window when she was on campus. He did his best to actually send something interesting but as bright and vibrant as her photos were he always found his own to be darker. Sure it was mostly night when he was actually taking them, but in comparison to the warmth and comfort in her world it felt cold here.
Until it wasn’t. His overnight residency finally ended. A long painful month and a half of struggling to sleep was about to start all over again now that he would be back on a day shift rotation. But they would be on the same schedule for the first time since this all started.
Which is why he wasn’t initially all that surprised that she asked to meet up in person again. It had been a few weeks since either of them had been in that office together. Getting coffee after work was something he did with friends almost every day when he was on nights. It shouldn’t have felt any different than meeting those idiots.
But it did. He was actually nervous about this. That nauseated twisting in your gut when something like a deadline is looming just around the corner. The familiar walk to the coffee shop on the corner felt like it took a lifetime. When he finally arrived he was a little surprised to be the first one there, he was pretty sure he had the longer walk afterall.
Still he settled in the growing line and was digging through his pockets for his phone when she almost magically appeared beside him. All sunshine in energy in the bright, and maybe a little anxious, smile she gave him. If he thought her sunny disposition shone through their texts it was nothing like standing next to her again.
It was like nothing had changed. She was talking a mile a minute about this new study she had read and if he was familiar with the concepts. Law admittedly had been only half listening, he had been watching mostly. Suddenly aware of all the little things he hadn’t cared to notice in the office. The way she talked with her hands or the way she tilted her head when she asked a question. The way she looked at him, like he was the only thing in the room.
He realized that he was supposed to be answering her a second too late and came up with a noncommittal answer. Which she seemed happy enough to run with and informed him at length on this newest fascination of hers. And while they waited for their orders together she slowly started to trail off. Like she had run out of the prepared material for a lecture.
Focused eye contact slipped into uncertain glances when he wasn’t directly looking at her. Her energy became more nervous as well, constantly checking her phone or fishing for something in her bag. It was like a totally different person now occupied the space beside him. And it was starting to eat at him, whatever this was he wasn’t sure if he liked it. Was certain he didn’t like it really.
It was an impulse but when their orders were called he grabbed her cup as well, making his way towards the back of the shop away from the pick up counter. Of course she followed, protests for her drink back following him through the shop a streak of sunshine through the sudden cloud cover. She was smiling again at least even if it was only until she caught up to him and they were face to face once more.
She held out a hand expectantly. Law couldn’t say he ever noticed her hands before, couldn’t remember if she had her nails painted last time he saw them. But they were now, a warm spring like shade. He was a little a little taken aback that he found he really liked the color, especially on her.
She was talking again and he had been watching her hands like an idiot. He watched her motion again from the cup and pulled it a little closer to his own chest. An offer that she could have it back when she spit out whatever was going on with her, one minute she’s fine the next she’s a stranger.
A frustrated sigh and a deep breath, she looked like she was forcing herself to look at him now, to make eye contact. And asked if he wanted to go out sometime, as something more than just friends or acquaintances or whatever they were right now. That she understood that maybe he didn’t see her that way and it was fine but she was tired of not knowing.
He took a second. Maybe two looking at her flushed features and determined eyes. He pressed the coffee back into her hands wordlessly and took a steadying breath of his own, suddenly very aware of how warm his own face felt before finally speaking.
“Wasn’t it obvious what my answer to that was going to be? I’m here aren’t I?”

Law
He was up at the first alarm dressed and showered before you were fully awake. Even if you were also somehow also up at the alarm. The man is not getting to the airport anything less than three hours early.
You're getting dressed and the car is already loaded and he's forcing food into your hands. Law has also checked four times to make sure you have everything you need. You might be able to recite the checklist in your sleep by the time you're walking to the gate.
Only when you're both settled at the terminal does he take a breath. You're distracted with your own entertainment and he's pouring over some article he's been saving for this flight. He's content to rot here until they call you to board.
Until he catches you getting restless. It starts with a sigh, then you're switching positions every five minutes. He makes it five whole minutes of watching you struggle. Then you're both off to find you whatever it was that was bothering you. He's aware he's wound tight, but that doesn’t really stop him snapping at least once.
God forbid you so much as grumble about a carry on. He's taking it from you. Probably wordlessless, most certainly not giving it back. At least not until you get on the plane.
Speaking of the plane. Of course you're sitting together. And of course he's letting you have the seat you want. Of course he's telling himself it's so you won't complain the whole time. He knows it's a lie but it makes it less of an embarrassing mess if he lies.
But if you so much as doze off leaned against him he's not doing anything that would risk you waking up or pulling away.
When you eventually land he's got everything covered until you get to your rented room. That's when the exhaustion catches up to him. You mention needing a shower, even better a bath and he's all in on the idea.
Killer
Even if you have to let him know you were planning this as a joint activity. He will stroll into the bathroom just as casual and measured as always. But that lasts all of five minutes before tender kisses develops into the dragg of teeth along your neck and wandering hands. The familiar flicking of the switch when control finally snaps.
He's pulling himself out of bed with you. His arm still flung heavily over you until the second alarm. He's still half awake through most of the getting ready process. Scrubbing sleep out of his eyes with the palm of his hand.
He still gets you there early. Maybe only an hour or two but your pushing it to make boarding while he lets you wander, getting whatever you want before you really need to go.
He's let you hold you bags for the most part. You're an adult. You can carry your own stuff. That doesn't mean that you necessarily have to. The second you ask him to hold a bag you aren't getting it back. He can certainly carry two bags afterall.
He is also almost too well prepared for almost anything the pair of you could possibly need. Pain medication? Of course. That one specific charger for a device. He's got it. He supposed it was second nature to be ready just incase considering the company he keeps.
He's pretty happy to do whatever helps pass the time honestly. If you're doing your own thing He's happy to distract himself with a game or movie. But if you want his attention he's sharing his screen or headphones.
He's pretty hands on anytime you are in line, hands around your shoulders or on your hips. Sometimes just leaning against you like a dog until you push him away. The man can throw heat so that usually doesn't take very long.
Killer feels a little bad that he sometimes traps you under his heat and weight when he's sleeping. It's almost never intentional and with how heavy of a sleeper he is its hard to avoid. Which is why he tries to keep himself in the window seat. If you really want it he lets you have it but prepare to be a little trapped between him and the wall.
Of course that means that by the time you both get to the room at least one, but more realistically both, of you is sore from the flight. And of course Killer is there to help with that. He's happy to offer a massage.
And in his defense it does start completely sweet. Strong calloused hands working the knots of your shoulders, the occasional lingering kiss to your bare skin.
It lasts maybe ten minutes before your skin is littered with bite marks and he's using his bulk to hold you down while he grinds against you. At least your feeling a little less tense though.
Marco
You're the one pulling him up at the second alarm. It's not that he is irresponsible. Unfortunately he's become a little immune to the regular alarms and a little too confident that you're going to be able to get him up.
That doesn’t mean that he isn't somehow the first one ready to leave. Even if you are getting there with less than an hour to spare.
You are also adorable if you think he's going to be seen not carrying everything you brought. You can have your things you just have to ask of course.
You don't lift a finger the entire process, but he's a little sneaky about it, slipping in to tackle and or pay for whatever you need. He's also completely blowing off any protest. You are on vacation and he's making sure you're enjoying yourself.
That being said he likes having the fee minutes before boarding to settle and do his own thing. Namely trying in vain to finish a book he's been reading for the last six months. He does keep pausing to share little snippets with you so that's not helping. Not like he really minds.
If you want anything he's running to wait in line for it. He's trusting you to hold down the fort until he gets back.
Marco is also guilty of glaring at any crowd if you are separated until he spots you, it's almost day amd night.
When you are with him navigating the crowds he's always got a hand on you or makes sure you're holding on to him. A hand on your wrist or you holding the handle of his bag. He's not trying to lose you in this mess. And if you stop walking with him he notices almost right away and waits.
On the flight itself he likes to think he's laid back but it translates to chaty. He will talk to you, to the people sitting near you. Anyone really.
Which might be part of why he's so exhausted by the time you get checked in and he's settled you in the room. It takes no time for him to fall asleep again.
When the morning comes though he's waking you up to properly start your vacation. Warm hands guiding you to straddle him, hands wandering across exposed skin and soft rough voiced whispers as the light filters into the room.
Mihawk
Gets up on time but a little slowly. He knows you have time and really what's the point in rushing. He's planned to be there pretty close to departure, no point in rushing if he can pay a little more to complete a pre-check.
He's also not worried about you keeping up with him. He knows when you've hit a limit with the process and that's when he's going to step in to help.
Of course he's still getting you almost anything you want. He's pretty staunchly against wasting money on the cheap tourist trap merchandise no matter how much you want it.
Anytime the pair of you are waiting he's more than content to sit in silence together. He is willing to share headphones but only if you're watching something together. Otherwise he's lost in a paper or some article on his phone.
He is an expert at navigating the airport. Connections especially. It's almost a special skill the way he figures out a map and gets you there with time to spare.
When he's actually on the flight he's still in his own world though it's usually focused on the winow or he's drifting off, arms folded in the seat next to you. Occasionally he's in a talkative mood but only when it comes to you. He's paying money to take you on this trip not to make a new acquaintance.
Once you arrive he's taking you for some actual meal first, something nicer than airport cuisine. He's happy to let you check in to the room and change if need be.
But once dinner is handled and it is just the pair of you in the room there is no pretense, no game. His arm coils around you and your pinned between him and the wall. It's still slow building intimacy, kisses becoming deeper, clothing peeled off peice by piece. There was no doubt it would end like this, his hands pulling you into bed, eyes looking through you and pinning you into place like always.
Because I almost never see it the other way around. And I have to get the live action hype out of my system.
This wound up longer than I had planned initially, so much so that another part is in the works.

Law
Scouting before rushing head first into danger was something Law had been trying to pull off since landing in The New World, to varying degrees of success. This next step in the journey was hopefully going to move a little more smoothly than he had grown used to, especially since he wasn’t running off on his own this time.
The plan still required keeping his distance from you and the crew at first. As had become the standard formula for any of his risk heavy plans. That didn't mean he was particularly happy about it, playing dumb had its risks as he was well aware. Especially when trying to gather information that may be more common than he was expecting.
This situation however was not something he had accounted for. Finding himself pulled into an almost intimate conversation in a dark corner of a bar. His back pressed to the cool wooden wall behind him, almost no space between himself and this stranger. Crowded into a corner almost entirely out of sight.
He didn’t really have the space to cause a scene, not this early in the night in a surprisingly quiet bar. It was in a break in conversation that he caught a fleeting glimpse of you. It took an extraordinary amount of willpower to keep his composure.
The look you were giving his unwanted companion was downright murderous, something he could almost swear was rolling off you in waves. It wasn't lost on him, that emotion. It wasn't like he hadn't felt that burning rush of jealousy when some poor moron decided to get too close to you. He wasn’t always the level headed adult he presented himself as, not when it came to what he cared about. And unfortunately for the occasional cocky moron, there was very little in this world that he cared about more than you.
That aside, he didn't feel too bad milking the conversation, letting them linger a little longer than he needed before making his way out for the night. Only delaying the next stage in this whole scouting excursion by a few minutes. And letting that anger build as the moments ticked by.
Law hardly held back the self satisfied smile that pulled at the corners of his mouth when you got up a little too quickly to be casual to follow him out once he actually was satisfied his conversation had given him something to work with. And could be only mildly annoyed when you caught him by the arm, dragging him out of the public eye.
He, afterall, had planned for the possibility of delay in meeting with the others. And what would one of his plans be without it going completely off the rails at this point.
Kid
It was supposed to be a simple stop over. A night at a bar, something where nothing could go wrong. Or so it was pitched when it was brought up that the crew was in desperate need for one easy night in the new world.
Of course that meant he was supposed to be on his best behavior. Which was bullshit since he almost hardly ever started anything really. But he was also looking for five minutes of peace and quiet to get a drink with his people. And he owed you maybe one mostly quiet night for all the shit you'd been through recently.
And that lasted about three minutes before some random local settled into the seat beside him while you had been called off to one of the other tables the crew had occupied.
If he hadn't promised best behavior they wouldn't have gotten their ass to touch wood before he would have sent them off one way or another. His silence was all the go ahead they seemed to need before they started talking his ear off. About how they had read all about him and what a wild coincidence this was.
It took Kid a minute to figure out what they were even talking about, another to realize that their tone was getting progressively more flirtatious, that they were pressing their luck and leaning just a little into his space.
Of course as soon as he realized it he glanced in your direction, not missing the sudden tension in your posture or the white knuckle grip you had on your glass. Of course being the totally sensible and reasonable man he was, he played into it.
He didn't draw attention, didn't start a scene. Just turned his actually attention to the body in your seat. Deliberately ignoring the feeling of eyes drilling holes into the side of his head, letting the easy, cocky smile slide onto his face. And waited.
It didn't long for you to make you way back over to what had been your seat. Of course he harly reacted when you simply settled in his lap. His arm reflexively pulling you further into him. Public or not he didn't give a single fuck what other people thought.
And though you had made your point clear. The pointed glare you kept giving him was starting to make it clear that he was hardly out of the mess he had made. You staying out of the conversation and avoiding his attempts to at least kiss you in favor of glaring at the poor moron in front of him. And as cute as it was he was making no effort to hide the fact that you were really starting to piss him off. Which would inevitably spiral into a fight.
But hey, he hadn't started some out of control bar fight for once. That had to count for something. At least is damn well should have, something told him it still wouldn't spare him some form of lecture
Sanji
If he was honest with himself, he knew what he was doing. Mostly. Certainly after he caught the murderous rage coming from your general vicinity. It wasn't hard to imagine what would be setting you off, what had started as a handful of people lingering around him had quickly turned into a small crowd. He was used to these post victory parties, not that he had always come out this lucky most of the time.
For once he had walked himself out of the fight rather than being dragged, which he would have assumed was what you of all people would have preferred. And of course you had been relieved to see him conscious at the very least. Now though, a handful of strangers all pressing a little too close all wanting to help clean up the hero.
And it wasn’t like he was really doing anything wrong, it was hard to turn down free help when the rest of the crew could actually use real medical attention. That being said he also knew that it had to be pissing you off to no end watching an army of people put their hands all over him. Especially when it was so damn hard to turn off that all too charming smile.
But he also knew that sort of anger, the heat that clawed up your chest and started to eat you alive. Usually it was on your behalf, the burning anger to kick some jackass as far away from you as physically possible. Especially when someone else butted into help when he was more than capable.
So as gracefully as he could he ditched the crowd, brushing off hands or waving away concerned glances. He was tough enough to walk across the room when he was ten times as injured as he was now. It didn’t take any time to find you in your isolated corner, with an almost perfect view of the mess of people where he had once been.
His weight dropped a little heavier into the seat beside you, the physical exhaustion finally catching up to him. He didn’t blame you when you got up after a moment of silence, it wasn’t hard to see why you’d want space. It didn’t mean that it didn’t sting a little.
Until you returned, clean cloth and bowl in hand muttering under your breath about a missed spot. Gentle hands pulling him closer with a pointed glare over his shoulder as you gently pressed the damp cloth to his temple. It was hard not to feel a little smug with your angry muttering at each missed spec of blood and the firm grip on the uninjured side of his face.
It was hard to sit still while you took care of him, everything in him wanted to watch you work but that would likely only slow you down at this point and he knew better than to press his luck any further. Instead he spent the next few minutes being fussed over and reminded once against that you were far too good for him.
Zoro
He didn't think anything of the lingering crowd. He noticed more when the person in the seat beside him shifted to better face him. When they started aiming pointed questions his way. Something was pulling at the back of his mind but it didn't feel like danger, more something he was just missing. Not that it really mattered, if there was a danger he was missing it wasn’t something he couldn't handle
And after the week they had been through at the very least he wanted to enjoy a real drink at a bar. Even if the questions were starting to get on his nerves the longer the interrogation seemed to drag on. Maybe that should have been his clue that this person was after him rather than something from him.
What did tip him off was your arm looping firmly through his, head resting on his shoulder. It was also hard to miss that you were carrying the energy of someone ready to strike. He could feel it in your grip and the clenching of the muscles in your jaw. Zoro hadn’t even heard you approach, which tracked considering the crowing noise around him.
The last he had seen you was when you had made plans to meet up at the dock, you had errands to run and he really just wanted a drink. He had been mostly sober for the last three stressful weeks and after another almost life ending storm he had sworn to break that semi sobriety.
And now here you were frimly asserting a claim to his space. Firmly planting your heels in the war for his attention. And based on the stranger's face it was a war you were easily winning. Especially considering he had reflexively wrapped an arm around your waist. He could feel the softening of your jaw and without turning his head he could imagine the self satisfied smirk. Maybe it was projection as his grip tightened and his own smug smile replaced his normal utter indifference.
It wasn’t often he got to see you so bothered, not at something so small in comparison. His new fan must have made quite the impression. In your time together he had spent hours with total strangers parting and drinking and he had never seen you so bothered. Unless of course he had somehow totally missed it those times and this was the most obvious you had ever been about your jealousy. But that didn’t seem likely.
Revealing in this new turn of events it took very little coaxing to get you settled properly on a leg and turn himself back toward the bar, fully ignoring the wounded stranger who did eventually slink off into the night. As far as the rest of your evening, it was spent as it almost always was, the retelling of stupid stories with the occasional one he somehow had forgotten to tell you before now. Finally enjoying that real drink in a real bar with one of his favorite people to drink with.
Because the man was canonically gone for so long just some thoughts I cannot shake. Can you tell I write instead of sleeping?
Pairing: Trafalgar Law x Reader
Summary: Months of sleeping alone mess with a man and Law does his best to deal with sharing a bed again
Cw: Mostly fluffy, base level of Law's angst. No gendered pronouns for reader, no beta I'll suffer alone
When he considered the time he had spent sharing a bed it was almost painfully short compared to the time he spent alone. But it also made the momentary panic that hit him again when his sleep addeled mind jerked away from your body.
As he caught up he was relived that it didn't seem like he had woken you up. Your only reaction was to both chase the missing warmth of his own body and to worm yourself deeper into the blankets.
Law had a hard enough time sleeping as is. Now that he was awake he was decidedly not going back to sleep. But he also didn’t necessarily want to leave your side.
He selfishly wanted nothing more than to stay here and just exist in the same space as you. Where it was warm and safe and he could just exist quietly.
Like there was actually any other option he cautiously settled back against you. Watching carefully as his arm draped back over your waist. A content noise mixing with your even breaths. His weight a familiar comfort you had longed for in his absence.
He had missed this. The heat of your bodies tapped against his chest. The steady thudding of your pulse against his thumb as he, almost absently, rested his hand on your wrist. A reminder that everything was fine. That he was here with you and you both were still alive.
Law would stay like this for as long as he could. Exhaustion maybe pulling him back into unconscious as the hours passed. His weight becoming less measured against you as sleep took him once more, almost fully pinning you under his weight. A subconscious need to keep you safe, hidden, away from the hell that always seemed to follow him.
When he finally does wake hours later and with the comfortable warmth of the shared bed surrounding him. There was no hell, no chaos, no threat. The only thing Law would find was you watching him sleep in return. Having gently prised yourself from his weight into an almost sitting position, still very much in his arms.
The quiet of the ocean surrounding the pair of you, the grounding weight of your hand between his shoulders. It was hard to shake the sleep and the sense of peace that he had managed to carve out behind the closed door. But if life had taught him anything it was that he would have to wake, to move and face the rest of the world. It was the only way he could keep moving and still hold onto this small piece of comfort.
I'm going to scream into the void about Law until I'm dead.
Pairing: Law x reader
Summary: After reuniting with you and the crew Law takes some time to reflect.
Cw: Fluff, but also typical Law angst, no gendered pronouns for reader
Home for Law had been a vague concept for over half his lifetime. It had been where he slept, when he slept anyway, more than anything else. It evolved over time, it had come to mean the ship, his crew, the life he had slowly rebuilt. Tonight however it felt like a missing piece had clicked into place. One he hadn't really realized was missing until it was filled.
Your head resting against his leg, your face covered by the daily paper as you read. It was well into the evening now, tucked away from everyone else. The only noise invading the sanctuary was the movement of the others just outside the door. The book in his own hands mostly ignored as his mind continued to race.
It had been one of those days. The kind that seemed too crowded to fit into a single day almost from the start. Too many questions too much still to plan. Not nearly enough time to keep up with it all. You had forced him to come lay with you, to step away for a night and trust that he had enough of a plan to make it the next eight hours.
Because that was always the struggle, surviving. When so much of his young life had been a matter of life and death it was sometimes hard to convince himself to slow down rest. It was easy when it came to everyone else, they needed time. He needed to make it another day.
He was snapped out of his racing thoughts by your shifting weight and the rustling of the abandoned paper. His eyes tacking the movement but not meeting your eyes initially.
"Not still thinking over the plan are you?" You had propped yourself on one arm to better meet his eye.
Law scoffed before answering. His eyes flicking around the room before landing, inevitably, back on yours. Almost hating the way he could feel his shoulders relax, his face softening just a little. It was dangerous to have someone like you around, caring like this gave his enemies a target. But right now it was really hard to care.
"No. Just thinking about how good it is to be home for a little while."
To his credit he managed to keep his tone neutral. But it would have been able to miss the warthm that he felt in his face. Or the way his smile widened, just a little, when you settled against him again seemingly satisfied with that answer.
Doing my best for my boy, hopefully I do him justice
Pairing: Zoro x f!reader
Summary: Zoro might find himself in the presence of an emotional drunk. Namely you.
Cw: Female reader, very mild drunken angst and comfort
Who knew you were such a light weight? Zoro had, apparently wrongly, assumed that you could keep up with him tonight. Which was admittedly more on him than on you. There weren't many people who could keep pace when he was really looking to drink.
Of course that meant you were looking at him with those damn wide eyes and flushed face. It should be a crime to look so cute just existing next to someone. Yet here you were buzzed, flushed, and...on the verge of tears apparently.
When the hell did that happen? A minute ago you were fine and now you looked like your world had been shattered. He must have given something away in his expression because you were now pointed looking anywhere but in his direction.
He was bad at this at the whole emotional moment thing at the best of times and now he had no idea where to begin. He wanted to make sure you were good.
"Zoro?" Your voice cut through his racing thoughts.
"Yeah"
"I'm sorry"
"For what?"
"Holding you back."
"How are you holding me back? Though I was drinking like usual." He spared a glance to the mostly empty bottle in his free hand.
"No, I mean" a frustrated sigh as you slumped further onto the table. "Not now. Like in the last town"
He still had no idea what you were really getting at. He guessed he was doing a poor job of hiding that since you continued.
"In a fight, sometimes, it feels like I'm holding you back. Like I'm a distraction." You were fully lost in the depths of your drink now, refusing to even look at him. "And if I'm stopping you from becoming the greatest..." you trailed off thought unfinished but the message perfectly clear.
"That's not true." He didn't have to think of an answer, didn’t waver in that certainty.
"Zoro, I-" He didn't let you finish.
"I don't worry in a fight. I don't make stupid mistakes." He was watching you carefully now. "Because I know my girlfriend can handle herself."
He paused for a second. Watching you carefully before he continued, unwavering as always in the quiet of the ship.
"I also know she signed up for someone who had faith in her and can stand his own." A steady breath and the hint of that smirk when you looked at him. "The greatest swordsman wouldn't be with someone he didn't have total faith in."
That seemed to break you fully out of the drunken spiral, finally turning to actually look at him. Eyes still a little watery, but a faint smile tugging at the corner of your mouth.
"The only thing you're keeping me from is another drink." And then he was on his feet hunting down another bottle.
He would be lying to himself if he didn’t watch you closer for the rest of the night. That he wasn’t a little closer than normal when he sat back down. That he didn’t practically pin you to his chest when you finally managed to drag him to bed.
Zoro was awful with his words a lot of the time. Especially when it came to you. But he was always good at showing hiw he felt and what he was thinking. Tonight the only thing he wanted to make perfectly clear was that he didn't plan on going anywhere.
