#really had me locked in wondering what horrible shit was gonna happen to those little bean guys next #i also really like the multimedia stuff. some really funny almost smiling friends esque bits of animation in there

i like that pleasantville, the best movie ever, is a pretty bad 90s teen comedy for the first 15 minutes or so. it unironically adds to it for me

#i think there's an intentionality to them feeling like poorly realized Characters in the real world too #i especially like the juxtaposition of how the real mom comes off as this kind of shitty archetype of a divorced mom #and then when he comes back at the end shes now this very layered human person

preemptively gonna say that i think any ending for the digital circus worth its salt will result in multiple video essays titled things like "why the amazing digital circus didn't work"

the doctor who episode that's both about an endless hotel that was built to house an ancient god and the way the main character's arrogant nature harms the people around him being titled "The God Complex" is maybe the most jealous i've been of a title ever. i should have thought of that.

watched classic family horror film the witches (1990) again recently and totally forgot about the rowan atkinson having an affair with his employee subplot

Obsession being Roald Dahl coded is incredible. Especially the part where she makes him that sandwich.

I think Backrooms 2026 is Dahl coded as well, just without the lore stuff at the end.

the sandwich part in obsession feels like the exact sort of horrible thing he would toss in and then casually mention in the footnotes that that it was pulled directly from a local newspaper article

#i would argue backrooms is bradbury coded. it being about a shitty therapist and her client a failed furniture store owner feels dahl though
