Where are you? No not this figure, this shadow of you Where are you? That soul, that essence, that warmth? I look at you and I see shades of grey when all that was before were whites and blacks, I look at you and instead of finding answers, I start finding questions. How did we get here? What role did I play? Are you still there? 放下。

When you introduce your best friend to your favorite song and they love it as much as you do
“I wanted to be a singer. I loved music. I practiced all the time and worked on writing songs for myself. I loved sad songs especially. But the community put so much pressure on my mother. My father passed away when I was twelve. And everyone kept telling my mother that a girl could not be something like a singer without her father’s permission. My father wouldn’t have minded. He was always so supportive of me. But my mom was so worried about what people would think. She begged me to stop. She grew so nervous that I finally told her, ‘It’s OK, Mom. I’ll stop.’ Now I just listen to music. It’s too sad for me to sing anymore.”
(Hunza Valley, Pakistan)
Even if doing the walks meant the infinite burn in my quads and endless cussing, I’d do it again and again and again.
Let’s face it, some things are just worth the momentary pain.
An eclectic mix of styles here in Kyoto. Ate a tonkatsu lunch near the main road where there's a row of small shops selling local foods and snacks. Unfortunately the rain was a major damper so we couldn't cover much! This picture was from the street of shops behind that temple that is held up by beams that didn't use any nails. You can tell that I'm an A+ tourist. The specificity is riveting.
What is ‘perfection’ to me? To be real but to seem to be like a dream.
Right after crossing the Thorong La pass in Nepal, on route to Muktinath where we had to endure the steep path down.
So we spent a few days in Bali to celebrate the wedding of a family friend. The wedding itself was simply beautiful. It was filled with emotion and everything felt personal and everyone truly celebrated the communion of this loving couple. It was my first time attending a wedding (I know) and the expectations and standards have definitely been set up high.
No mistaking that it was humid and sunny and I was just sweating profusely thanks to my pig- like sweat glands but hey it’s Bali, you just try your best to think cool and take it all in. The dinner itself was lovely. Canopies, candles and lots and lots of flowers all lined in unison on the tables setting the perfect mood and keeping in line with the garden theme.
It was amazing! Seriously.
We stayed at Bebek Tepi Sawah, Ubud so it took us awhile shuttling back and forth and also to get to other places like Seminyak/Kuta (1-1.5 hours). Known for being true to its name the villa’s really were located next to cute plots of paddy. Bebek Tepi Sawah is also a line of restaurants known for their bebek (duh) which is duck! I had the ribs from there as well (pork, yum yum in tum tum) and it was also really yummy.
On our free day we walked a lil at the city centre, popping in to the market and checking out the section where fish/spices/fruits were sold. After which we took a surfing class at Kuta beach. I really wish I took a picture of the beach then because it was absolutely gorgeous! I was honestly surprised, the last time I went to Kuta the waters were booger-green and there was enough trash in the water for people to use as water toys, throwing plastic bags at each other while giggling away.
It took me awhile to get the hang of it and to stand up on the board, I think it was when he told me to do Yoga when I got home that I had this innate need to show it to him and then things got a lil better from then haha. But a day of learning really isn’t enough, the next time definitely has to be some sort of surf camp. Either way, Surfpro/Prosurf was pretty good. A 2.5 hour lesson for Rp. 675,000 (approx RM 225).
The last two pictures are from the quick walk we did around the Ubud city on our last day. Once you’re in Bali the sight of offerings at the shop fronts will not be an uncommon sight.. pretty far from it. Since I’m such a clutz, I had to make sure I was looking out and not step on them on accident.
MANGOSTEENS ARE MY FAVE. Freakin fruits are the cutest things ever. Love love love. Taste sooo gooood.
I just can't fathom how this is all going to end. You come in thinking you have an infinite amount of time. Enough time to say "next time", "later", "soon"; and now these words are replaced with "now", "too soon" and "goodbye". I don't think I could have imagined how Beijing was going to change me and mould me into who I am now. To say that I'm totally different would not be true but a different side of me has definitely shone out. One year in this crazy place is like no other. That's for damn sure.
