Assignment 4

Art changes with the technology that is available. To be dynamic in the current world setting you have to understand that people will create what inspires them and inspire others with what they create. With social media playing a role in the art world, those who create can spread their works faster, get recognition, make points. Using platforms like facebook and twitter and even this one, tumblr, artists can spread their view and interpretations of the world very easily and simply.

However, with the ease that the internet gives us, the key is to find uniqueness and originality where literally everyone can see what you do and everyone posts what they've done. Social media has brought the fact that there are literally billions of people on this earth to life. It's hard to get it out of our heads that we aren't the first one to do something like this or like that.It's nearly impossible to be the first with anything.

Assignment #5 - 2nd Annual MFA Exhibit

This exhibit first struck me as very earthy and calmly patriotic, due to the paintings of toys and the western deserts as well as the soldier uniform pulp paintings. There aren't many bright colors, a large amount of which are on a confusing jumble of paintings on cardboard, and the majority or the pieces, each by various artists, had to do with natural substances such as wood and pulp and dirt. The rectangle shape of the room didn't really lend to how the exhibits were perceived, at least not to me, and the mere fact that the pieces were grouped together led me to their association.

The piece that doesn't belong, at all, is the before mentioned cardboard paintings. It's like they call to modern suburbia America as opposed to rustic western America. I would remove it completely, or change the piece to fit the earthy tone of the rest of the works. However, the exhibit was most successful in terms of texture. Every work had a different feel, from the silk to the yarn to the pulp and more. The fur and hair and string in the hanging piece drew not just your eyes but also your fingers. almost every piece virtually screamed 'touch me'. All in all it was an enjoyable, peaceful exhibit that really made me think about me home out west and how America feels, not just how it looks or is.
