"they hate each other/don't get along because they're too similar," that's a really shallow way to say that the one with comparatively less hierarchal power within a highly structured dynamic challenges the status quo in acknowledging the irrational nature of the beliefs the structure operates upon thereby threatening the power of the person creating and/or controlling the boundaries of the dynamic through willingly abandoning their expected position within the structure, exposing the arbitrary limits that exist and are changed entirely to ensure a lack of access to the exact amount agency/autonomy needed to subvert the established dynamic, and regaining exactly that agency/autonomy a person in their position has been believed to not be able to achieve because it remained in the hands of the person with more power, resulting in an encroachment upon that powerful person's position in the dynamic. is it at all reasonable to say that one's undermining of another's irrational control over the former is simply a case of them 'hating each other' or 'not getting along'? all that perspective does is reinforce an idea that the person regaining their agency/autonomy is indeed illogically volatile and simply emotionally attacking the other

sb reblogged some tags of mine that mention my previously explained interpretation of dean's comparisons of sam to john being made quite specifically in moments where sam's disagreement with dean is directly correlated with dean's loss of control over their circumstances (sam related or not; think 1.22 within samndean's disagreement about the colt, how it comes within the helplessness dean feels between john's circumstances vs his duty towards john's orders) and it's making me think of this concept—the idea that the encroachment of a subordinating role onto one with authority gives the impression of there being a similarity between the roles due to the difference in standards for the subordinate and how that affects the perception of their disruption of the dynamic—particularly wrt dean's OWN comparison of sam and john as not getting along because they're too similar in 4.19, directly succeeding dean's exposure to circumstances about john he hadn't been privy to that disrupted his ideal of john, and therefore his idea of their familial dynamic, in conjunction with the season's conflict of 1) his post-hell era and 2) sam's repeated and differienciating diversions from his role being perceived as both a betrayal and encroachment by dean. there's also my idea that the narrative itself perhaps uses this concept within its exploration of sam's soullessness a la its symptoms present in within his closer adherances to the hunter masculine standard and how that creates friction with dean's time away from hunting as well as soulless!sam as a barrier between dean and his idealised dynamic with Sammy; soulless!sam's 'encroachment' upon dean's authoritarian role presents as sam having certain characteristics dean has presently 'lost' through his departure from the frontier thereby disrupting their existing dynamic (which in and of itself is a symptom of monstrosity because by this point in the show, sam's diversion with his role is conflated with monstrosity)

I’ve never hated Valentine’s Day as an aroace person, in fact I actually really enjoy the aesthetic of it. But I think my body has some physical repulsion to it because every Valentine’s Day for the past few years I’ve woken up being annoyed with literally everything and I always have a headache.
