Updike, skid, and pump were walking through the store. Well, skid and pump were sitting in a shopping cart that Updike was pushing. They continued along, grabbing what was on lilaâs shopping list. Updike had felt off the morning, but felt pretty ok until now. He now felt like he had a fever, and he felt tired. He did his best to ignore it for now, at least until they were done shopping. -@spooky-clouds

âAlright, almost done with this box⌠Just a few more cans and youâre done, Whitty. Then you have your lunch break.â
The bombhead grabbed his cap, pushing it forwards lightly to have space to wipe his brow. Mr Updike really did ask a lot of him every now and then, but they were mostly used to it by now. Just that the last customer bomb dealt with wasnât exactly the nicest⌠He stood up and turned around, eyes narrowing in confusion at the scene in front of them. Was that⌠His boss? It looked a lot like him, but from what bomb remembered, Mr Updike didnât have kids⌠Was he babysitting? That would make sense⌠And what was he wearing? It certainly wasnât his usual getup. Maybe it was a today thing? Like the kids? Well, no shame in asking.
âUh, hi Mr Updike! I⌠Havenât seen these two with you before. Are you babysitting?â
As Updike followed whitty with the cart, he let out a quiet groan.
Skid looked over at him, as he had noticed it.
[âYou ok?â]
âIâm fine SkidâŚâ
The store workerâs eyes narrowed, gaze shifting to Updike in slight concern. Sure, his boss wasnât the best boss, but he wanted to make sure the other was doing alright.
âAre you sure? Weâve got medicine here.â
âIâŚIâm not sick. Itâs a different thingâŚâ
Both kids looked at Updike, seeming a little worried.
Whitty seemed slightly confused, and a bit worried, but he just nodded. Whatever his boss was dealing with, it was probably not something that he wanted bombâs help with.
Updike let go of the shopping cart and grabbed his arms, a moment later, his head sparked with a little electricity.
âItâs already this bad?â
Even though Updike was talking to himself when he said that, skid still responded.
[âWhat is?â]
âyeah, tell us.â
Updike sighed.
âYou see you two, my kind has a condition where, if the ones that have electrical abilities donât use said ability for too long, it causes it to build up within us. This causes cold like symptoms and the sparking that you just saw.â
âoh.â
[âHow do you fix it?â]
âWell, I would need a safe and appropriate place to discharge the extra electricity from me. I would also need somewhere safe for the extra electricity to go.â

âUh, hi Mr Updike! I⌠Havenât seen these two with you before. Are you babysitting?â
Updike thought for a moment, deciding to just go along with the fact that whitmore had a job. It was strange that whitmore didnât seem nervous from his presence thoughâŚ
âActually, I donât know. Could you tell us where it is?â
Whitth quirked a brow, somewhat confused, but simply shrugged it off.
âWell, itâs over at aisle A 12, to our right. Next to the fruits section. I can guide you there, if you want?â
Updike thought for a moment.
âno itâs alright.â
[âbut I wanna keep talking to the bomb man!â]
Updike looked at skid.
âyou do?â
[âyeah!â]
âheâs nice!â
Well, looks like pump had decided to chime in too.
âwell, even if heâs nice, he still has a job to do. We canât distract him from his job.â
â⌠Weeeell, thereâs not exactly a lot of business at this time. I can take you all to the aisle, no problem!â
Besides, the kids were nice to talk about. Not that he wanted to see if they had any nice, embarrassing stories about his boss (who was still acting really odd? Huh.), not at all. Ok, maybe a little bit, but in bombâs defense, he was always gloomy and closed off from⌠Everyone, actually. This was the first time heâd seen the man with anyone that didnât work here.
The two spooky kids looked at Updike excitedly upon hearing what Whitty had just said.
Updike looked back at the two, thought for a moment, then sighed.
âalright, I suppose he can come along then.â
[Yay!]
âyay!â
Both kinds cheered.
âbut if he has to go back to work, we canât stop him, ok?â
Both kids nodded.
âOh, great! Guess I get a little more time with you two, huh?â
The bombhead had an easygoing smile on his face, starting to walk towards one of the many familiar aisles around. It was a bit funny that Updike of all people was telling that to them, considering he was their boss, but maybe he didnât want the kids to know? Odd, but Whitty didnât get paid to make questions about what his boss said and didnât say.

'Alright, almost done with this box... Just a few more cans and you're done, Whitty. Then you have your lunch break.'
The bombhead grabbed his cap, pushing it forwards lightly to have space to wipe his brow. Mr Updike really did ask a lot of him every now and then, but they were mostly used to it by now. Just that the last customer bomb dealt with wasn't exactly the nicest... He stood up and turned around, eyes narrowing in confusion at the scene in front of them. Was that... His boss? It looked a lot like him, but from what bomb remembered, Mr Updike didn't have kids... Was he babysitting? That would make sense... And what was he wearing? It certainly wasn't his usual getup. Maybe it was a today thing? Like the kids? Well, no shame in asking.
"Uh, hi Mr Updike! I... Haven't seen these two with you before. Are you babysitting?"
Updike froze, stopping the cart and looking at whitty.
ââwait, what! Whitmore has a job? Since when? And why is he being so formal? Thatâs very unlike him...â
Skid and pump quickly noticed that the cart had stopped. While they didnât notice updikeâs internal confusion, they did notice whitty.
[ââhello bomb man!]
ââwho are you?â
The bombhead tilted his cap almost playfully towards the two kids, a small grin forming on their face. How he loved kids. They were so... Different, from everyone bomb's age. Optimistic in a way most adults weren't, innovative.
"Well, hello there! My name's Whitmore, but you two can call me Whitty, if it's easier to say. Or if you want. What are your names?"
Hopefully it wasn't too forward of him to ask, they didn't want to get fired.
[Iâm skid!â]
ââAnd Iâm pump!â
Updike continued to stand there, silently thinking.
"Nice to meet you two! How do you guys know Mr Updike?"
He doubted his boss would reprimand bomb much for the question, at least not in front of the two kids.
[âhe saved us from a scary man a while ago! Now him and my mom are friends!â]
âyeah! Heâs really nice!â
"Oh, he did? I'm glad you two are alright, then!"
That was somewhat concerning, but at least the kids were alright now.
Both of the kids smiled at him, then skid decided to get Updikeâs attention.
[âGabriel?â]
Well, that seemed to snap Updike out of his thoughts.
âhmm? Yes skid?â
[âcan we get some candy?â]
Updike thought for a moment.
âalright, but not too much.â
Both kids cheered happily.
Huh. His boss was good with kids then, not something that Whitty had ever even thought about associating with a man like Updike. Aloof, and guarded were much better in the way of describing him.
"I assume you know where the candy aisle is, right?"
He was the boss after all. It wouldn't make sense for Uldike not to.

Name: Gabriel Updike
Gender: male
Sexuality: pansexual
Age: 24
Height: 5 feet 10 inches
Talks: like this
Notes:
-calm and collectedÂ
-has a soft spot for kids
-has a bit of a sweet toothÂ
-doesnât like straight coffeeÂ
-surprisingly, due to his natural electrical/ lightning powers, he can take getting struck by a bolt of lightning pretty well. Heâll just be really dizzy for a while, but wonât get knocked out by it.
-if Updike doesnât use his electrical powers for too long, it builds up in his body, causing him to get a fever and be sick until he discharges the extra electricity
-this also happens if he gets struck by lightningÂ
-he occasionally goes over to skids house
- he used to usually only end up there because skid and pump convinced him to come over/ dragged him there out of excitement
-now he just goes over if he wants to, or if lila asks him to babysit and heâs fine with doing so
-Halloween isnât Updikeâs favorite holiday, but he doesnât mind it
-he did end up spending Halloween with the two of them as they went trick or treating with Lila. They spotted him while they were trick or treating and Lila asked if heâd join, only because skid and pump were asking updike to join. He had that day off, so he decided to relax for once.
-he actually ended up having fun, got some candy, and he got to satisfy his sweet tooth a little bit. Overall, he considered it a good night.
-skid and pump convinced him to dress as a vampire once. He had fun.
-will occasionally babysit skid. Heâll babysit pump too if heâs over.
-heâs friends with lila
-heâs never actually gone into detail about his job, and never will...
