SPOILERS FOR CELESTIAL MONSTERS-
Review
So I just finished reading Celestial Monsters, and all I have to say is why, why? Aiden Thomas, he has put me through things. first off in the Sunbearer Trials, it had a beautiful ending, it had a great ending yay cliffhangers, but in this one, I was stabbed brutally brutally stabbed, and at the end it really hurt me lake I'm sorry, but Ocelo begging their nini to stay hurt me so bad.
And don't even get me started on that one time where Aurelio almost drowned. I Genuinely thought he was going to die because he was really sick afterwards, and you know that we always had that idea that he just was terrible in water, and he was, but it was still crazy to read and be like, oh my gosh, he's gonna die.
Overall in the ratings though, it was a great second book, maybe even the best second book I've ever read, but it wasn't as good as the Sunbearer Trials, but it was still was really good, I don't think I can ever forget about this book, it reminds me a lot of Immortal Games, which is another book I read and really liked, but I didn't sob as much as I did in this one. I feel really connected to the characters in this book, and when Suerte died, this is when I started crying, because Xio was right there, and they had to watch as their dad died for a God that he was fighting against for a while.
Xio really had a switch up when it came to betraying the Obsidians, and I don't think that was a good switch up, but I do love Xio, and I think they deserve the world, but I don't know it seemed all too fast and it didn't work out for them. My only real complaint, is Xio changing his feelings really fast.
Overall, this book was a 5 out of 5 stars, and it was a perfect second book. I'm so glad I got to read this, and I'm really excited to read cemetery boys. My only worry about Cemetery Boys is that I won't be able to connect to the characters as much as I did in the Sunbearer Trials and Celestial Monsters.
Up to this point, Ocelo is still my favorite character and they will continue to be that. My other favorite though is probably Aurelio. I did love Teo, but I really like the others a lot, and Niya, oh my gosh, I love her, but that time when Fantasma was hugging Xio, yeah, maybe you shouldn't have said 'smash' girl.
Overall rating- ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Sadness rating- Fuck my life❤
Some recent purchases I made from Aiden Thomas :)
I am looking forward to reading Cemetery Boys once I have finished (and recovered) from Celestial Monsters! I'm a little upset that I won't be able to see my favorite characters ever from a book I've read again, but I'm sure Cemetery Boys is just as good! ❤
SPOILERS FOR CHAPTER 13 OF CELESTIAL MONSTERS! -
AIDEN THOMAS NEEDS TO APOLOGIZE TO ME THROUGH EMAIL FOR THE DAMAGE I HAVE GOTTEN FOR BEING AN OCELO FAN😞 EITHER I SUE AIDEN THOMAS OR HE MAKES A SPIN OFF OF JUST OCELO
But on a better note, I am loving Celestial Monsters so far and I pray Ocelo makes it through this book. ❤
AGAIN, COMMISSIONS ARE OPEN!
I would like to talk about this book-
SPOILERS AHEAD! (Not really talking about the plot)
I would like to start off and say that this is a favorite of mine now. The Sunbearer Trials has everything anyone like me could possibly want, a drawn cover, visual representation of main characters, CARDS, and relatable characters. As a transmasc, having such queer representation made me feel seen. The amount of representation in this book was amazing including things like deaf characters, dysphoria, gender identity crisis situations, characters who aren't just their gender identity, and abuse.
The main character, Teo, had to be one of the most relatable characters in the book. As he is trans, I connected with him through the feeling of dysphoria almost constantly for having one female trait you just can't get rid of. Him binding his wings the first few chapters because he thought they were too feminine was an accurate representation of most transmasc people and even some people of other gender identities. A random thing I really like about him is that it's implied his top surgery scars are green.
Personally, throughout the story, Ocelo ended up being my favorite character. I'm not really sure what it is about them that drew me in, but what I really loved was their want to win so bad yet fail so hard. At first, I thought their whole personality was just being an asshole, so I obviously hated them. As the story went on, I realized half the time they weren't even in the wrong. If I was napping and someone attacked me with birds, I would be pissed off too. Pushing them down the stairs in the beginning of the book was actually crazy for Teo. When I found out they weren't technically the one being violent in the first trial, I had another reason to love them more.
Overall rating- ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I bought the cards for the first book because I loved it so much. The betrayal at the end was peak and Aurelio is my son.
Currently, I am reading Celestial Monsters (The 2nd book) and I am on chapter 10!
A short story I wrote a while ago that no longer corresponds to the plot of this series, but I thought I should share 🍁(This was a draft btw, so if the grammar is bad, that is why)
