I hope you're having a nice day!<3
Hi! I'm good, I hope you are too! I do have it posted on Ao3. It's under the profile name of RaineyDaysInRaccoonCity. I would make a masterlist, but I'm clueless as to how to do that lol. Maybe one day. I'll try linking the Ao3, let me know if it works!

Anybody else kind of sad that we'll never be able to make the "we got this before GTA 6" joke again? I actually thought GTA 6 being in production was myth 😂
AN: So... I thought I could get the rest of RE6 done in this chapter, and maybe even a little more. But I was definitely wrong in that estimate lol. The good news is that this chapter is very nearly 5,000 words! The other good news is there is going to be at least one more chapter left in this story! The bad news is you're gonna have to wait longer for it while I figure out how to write it and stuff. Still unsure how to end this, but I'm gonna do what I always do. Write and wing it lol. I hope you all enjoy this chapter! Words were starting to blur together so if anyone notices any crazy mistakes that I might have missed, feel free to let me know! I appreciate all the patience with me ❤️
Chapter 44:
“Well that doesn't look good.”
“No. No it doesn't.”
Your statements were obvious ones, yet it still felt the need to be said. After Ada had carefully led you down the hall, you caught a glimpse out the large window and saw the raging fire burning on multiple floors across the way.
However, your attention was soon redirected when you heard an explosion and a flash of light further down the hall. Ada immediately booked it down the hall toward a window that would allow her to see the source, with you not far behind.
More fire was the first thing you noticed when you saw the other part of the tower. The next was a broken elevator that dangled dangerously off a cable that would not hold much longer. Two silhouettes jumped simultaneously once the elevator swung close enough to the ledge, luckily sticking the landing. They had jumped just in time too. Immediately after, the elevator cable snapped and sent it crashing down multiple floors to the ground below. It would have been an unfortunate end had they not jumped.
“Wait, is that Leon and Helena?” You asked Ada, trying to make sure your eyes weren't playing tricks because of the night and weird lighting from the flames.
Ada nodded in confirmation, before shaking her head as she let out a sigh that held a tired fondness to it. “Leon. Ever the survivor.”
“He gets into as much trouble as we do. If not more.” You commented, only half joking and feeling a similar kind of exhausted worry that tended to appear when you knew Leon was around. But you knew he could handle himself. “I feel bad for his partner. Though she seems to be keeping up well enough.”
“It's actually very impressive. I hope she succeeds in whatever her goal is at the moment.”
Your mind flashed back to Deborah and the intense grief Helena had shown when she had lost her sister. Rightfully so. Your guess was that Helena wanted Simmons taken down along with his little Family. Or whatever the hell it was called. Simmons ran the show, but that organization was overall just as bad. Umbrella levels of bad.
Honestly, anybody who messes with bioweapons and viruses is immediately put on your hate list.
Ada cocked her gun and continued, “Oh well. No rest for the weary.”
As if on cue, the elevator door next to you both exploded with fire and heat, making you both step back and shield yourselves from the intense flames. You felt the beginnings of sweat starting to collect on your forehead, making you huff in annoyance even though you already felt gross after such a long night.
“Clearly that includes us.” You deadpanned, not finding the universe's timing all that funny at the moment.
“Exactly.” Ada smirked, carefully leaning over to glance out the broken elevator doorway to see the elevator descending. “Perfect! Let's go.”
You both carefully hopped onto the roof of the elevator, with you silently crossing your fingers and hoping it will hold. Not wanting a repeat of what happened with Leon's and Helena's elevator.
“Ada!” A distorted voice called out. You immediately snapped your gaze to a mutated creature standing on top of a bridge sort of structure connecting the towers.
“What the fuck is that!?” You stared at the creature in bewilderment.
“I'm thinking it's Simmons.” Ada responded, immediately able to recognize that telling unhealthy obsession he still held for her. Even with his form changed.
Describing Simmons current appearance with one hundred percent accuracy is not a possibility. It's not dinosaur shaped anymore. It's still bony and fleshy. It has a long tail thingy that is maybe similar to a scorpion, which also shoots stuff out of it at the speed of a machine gun. Also, his mutated form now looks like it stands on all fours.
In short, he is an abomination.
You raised a brow as the tail shot haphazardly in your direction and quickly took one of your guns out that could handle large distances. The Bear Commander you found earlier in the night would do. The shotgun, sadly, would not cut it. “This creep is really dedicated. Already back for more?”
“He really is a glutton for punishment.” Ada quipped, fishing out her sniper rifle in that seemingly endless arsenal of hers she somehow managed to carry.
Your max was three guns. How she does it will forever be a mystery.
There was no time to reply when the tail finally managed to aim and hit the elevator you stood on. This unfortunately sent it falling at a rapid, horrifying, speed. Sparks shot up around you as metal harshly scrapped against each other at a pace it wasn't meant to.
Ada, with her quick thinking, yanked you by your waist and grappled you both to another bridge connecting the towers. This one at a lower level thanks to that sudden fall.
Once feet were placed firmly on the “ground”, you attempted a few deep breaths to calm a bit from that heart attack you nearly experienced.
“I think he broke something.” You huffed sarcastically, facing Ada with a hand rubbing at your chest in an attempt to soothe your rapidly beating heart.
She hummed her agreement as her gaze went over your shoulder. “Well… he's about to break a lot more.”
“Ada! Welcome back.”
Jumping at the monstrous voice, you immediately spun to face the mutated creature that somehow made it to the bridge you both landed on. You guessed you were too busy recovering from that fall to hear his large form clamoring around further down the bridge.
Bear Commander back to being grasped tightly in your hands, you watched as Ada stood beside you, triggering Simmons to run full speed right at her. The run was awkward in his current form, but no less scary in its speed.
Splitting up, you both jumped to the side to avoid his charging form. Your heart nearly jumped out of your throat when you fell and slid a little too close to the edge of the glass roof. Making direct eye contact with what would certainly be a terrible death if your upper body slid just an inch further.
You carefully slid back away from the edge as fast as you could, taking hold of the gun that, luckily, didn't slide off either. All while briefly wondering how the hell this glass roof was strong enough to hold Simmons in all his monstrousness.
“You finally came back to me.” The Simmons monster growled as she dodged another attack, with you getting back on your feet not too far away. You tried to help Ada get some distance from Simmons by shooting at the monster to distract, which then forced you to avoid the tail that shot right back at you.
His angry roars made it clear he was not happy with you distracting him from Ada.
“You and I… We're destined to be together!” Simmons charged again, but you both managed to roll out of the way, quick to get your weapons pointed at him once in the clear.
“Hate to break it to you, man…” You paused, “Or- used to be, man. But she's taken!” You yelled back as you shot. He roared in response to your words, and charged again.
“Not the time, dear. But I love the enthusiasm.” Ada smirked as she glanced at you, which only pissed off Simmons more.
Mouth opened to respond, your attention was suddenly redirected to behind you when growls were heard. Confused, you raised your brows when you saw three zombies just wandering from further down the glass roof of the bridge, stumbling toward the noise and chaos of the fight.
“How the hell did they get up here?” You questioned with your arms thrown up in exasperation.
“Magic.” Ada responded sarcastically, attention returning to Simmons. You quickly raised your gun and shot the three zombies down. Not wanting to get bitten because they got too close while you were busy with Simmons.
Ada suddenly shouted a warning, making you turn to see Simmons now charging right in your direction. You gasped, not seeing a way to maneuver around without falling off the edge. Making a risky move, you ran towards the charging monster and fell into a slide, similar to that of a baseball player sliding onto base for safety.
Luckily, you made it to the other side of Simmons without being crushed by his large legs. You scrambled to your feet and rushed back to Ada's side.
“Are you alright?” Ada asked as you eyed Simmons. You responded with a quick nod as her gaze, too, returned to Simmons. Both of you are forced into a ducking position as he goes back to shooting in your direction with his tail.
“Quick question. Are you trying to give me a heart attack?” Ada snarkily asked. Her voice raised so you could actually hear over the roars and gunfire.
You reloaded your gun and returned the favor to Simmons as you laughed weakly. Neither of you were fully focused on the conversation as you fought back the current subject of your anger and annoyance.
“You must not have seen me almost slide off the roof a few minutes ago!” You shouted back as you both danced around another attack.
Her eyes widened for a moment as they snapped toward you in disbelief, before returning most of her focus to the fight. But not without letting you know that the sight of that probably would have succeeded in finishing her off before Simmons could.
“You were never as perfect as the real Ada Wong!” Simmons' distorted voice roared. “It was a mistake making you.”
So he still thinks Ada is Carla? You wondered if the C-Virus mutation also affected his intelligence or if he was always this stupid. Wouldn't you be able to tell the actual person of your obsession from the one you created?
No. You were giving him too much credit. He was just a sick man with too many resources and a stupid idea. An insane idea. And look where it got him. He was turned into a monster.
Now the outside just matched the inside.
“I made you! That means you must obey me!” He yelled as he took another round of ammo from your guns. Mutated Simmons prepared to charge again, ready to kill. “Don't worry. I'll be gentle.”
You followed closely behind Ada into another slide dodge. Simmons' words continue, making you feel both more angry and sick to your stomach.
“You're mine! Every inch of you belongs to me! Give into your feelings. You can't live without me.”
“Does this creep have a mute button!?” You commented, completely over it. You were furious. And judging by the look Ada shot you, so was she. What you really wanted was to shut him up for good.
A stray limb smacked harshly into your side, catching you by surprise as you failed to fully avoid an attack. You screamed in fright as you, for the second time that night, teetered dangerously close to falling off the glass edge. Ada was quick to yank you back up by your right arm. But not with her hand. She was too far away for that.
Expertly using her grappling hook, that had you in grip so tight that you were sure it would add to your growing number of bruises, she pulled you towards her and away from the edge. She also used the opportunity to create more distance from Simmons, which you greatly appreciated despite the ache in your arm.
You hissed as she unwrapped the sturdy cord from your arm once you were by her side, apologizing all the while. You dismissed it with a shake of your head. It may have hurt, but her quick thinking had saved your life. And there was no time to worry about whether or not your arm was more than just bruised at the moment.
A bridge above collapsed, forcing Ada to grab you again and grapple to another. What surprised you was that soon after landing, Simmons was already there. Waiting for you.
“Can he fucking teleport too!?” You wondered aloud as your eyes darted around for any answers as to how he managed to beat you up there. You noticed a few more zombies on the bridge further back, so you decided to get rid of them before they got too close to the main fight.
Ada shook her head angrily, completely over it. “I wouldn't dismiss that as a possibility at this point.”
The fight continued. With you fighting the zombies and Ada focused on Simmons’. But this time, Ada had a few things she wanted to say to the mutated monster.
“You're disgusting!" Ada spat as she shot Simmons. “Let's get this straight- I’m not your little doll, Simmons. In fact, the only thing I have in common with her is hatred for you.”
The proud smile you had on your face after hearing this couldn't be helped. Ada finally being able to tell him off to his face, even if his mutated face is entirely unrecognizable now, is something that you have been rooting for since she had told you about the man. Even before you truly knew how deep the depravity of Simmons was.
She might have been reluctant to admit it out loud, but working with Simmons all those years ago had affected her more than she ever cared to admit.
His obsession back then had frightened her, and so she left. Not even giving it a second thought afterwards. Never expecting the outcome of that action to be what it was now. Not expecting more than just Simmons to be hurt by making the decision to save herself.
But that fear she once had, has since turned to rage.
She was angry at Simmons for his obsessiveness over her. She was angry at him for what he had done to others to find his “perfect Ada”. She was angry at him for what he had done to Carla… And at Carla for framing her as the terrorist everyone has been chasing since this all started. For hurting so many just to get her revenge on Simmons. Her revenge on Ada. When Ada didn't even know this was all happening until it was too late.
But… Ada was mostly angry at herself.
Angry for being the subject of Simmons' obsession. For being the person that Carla was forced to become by Simmons. For not knowing this was happening sooner. For dragging you into all of this, when to her, you shouldn't be involved in this mess to begin with.
A very large part of her believed that everything, all that had happened since she left Simmons all those years ago… It was all her fault. And she has to put a stop to it.
Tonight.
Finished with the zombies, you turned around to go back to helping Ada with Simmons. Your foot suddenly grazed the edge of the broken bridge below you, making you glance down in surprise, not expecting it as the bridge was whole only a minute ago.
“When did that happen?” You muttered, stepping a bit away from the large gap. Hearing a noise, you glanced behind you in case there were more zombies. Instead you saw Helena and Leon, standing not far from you on your side of the broken bridge.
“Ada!” She quickly looked back at you when she heard your call. You gestured behind you, making Ada realize you have more company and that you can't get to her.
“Appreciate the gesture, but I'm a big girl. I can handle this one on my own.” Ada declared stubbornly as she continued her attack. The message was clear. She wanted to end it herself, without outside help.
Without you.
You tried not to feel too hurt by her not wanting your help anymore. Understanding that her building anger was driving her to feel the need to act alone. But your chest did ache after seeing past that mask she put on.
The anger was real. But beyond that… you also saw her pain.
Simmons had shrunken down to his first mutated form again. Now resembling more man than whatever he was before. You watched with worry as he switched between the two forms as Ada continued to attack. All the while he kept making his delusional comments.
“You were to be at my side, when I sat on my throne.” He growled, voice and body mutating again from man to monster after more shots had landed. “Why…? Why aren't you obeying me!?”
You watched in horror as he rushed closer to Ada with a speed that surprised you. A harsh scream escaped your throat when he mutated back to the man shaped monster he was and managed to grab her by the throat.
“Ada!” You screamed as he slammed her down to the ground, before kicking her away and sending her sliding way too close to the broken gap in the bridge.
“You are my masterpiece! My beautiful creation!” Simmons roared.
Ada climbed to her feet, before stumbling in place as the bridge gave away. Quickly, she grappled to another bridge walkway that sat higher up. You rushed to find a way to climb up to that level, also. Leon, who was of a similar mind as you, immediately gestured to some rope that was hanging off the side of the building. Perfect.
“Hope you can climb.” Leon said to you as Helena quickly went up first.
“I'll make it work.” You declared, determined to get to Ada before Simmons, who was climbing along the side of the building in his monstrous form. Leon nodded and allowed you to climb up before him. Just in case he needed to catch you.
Helena made it up the rope first. She then watched with a bit of worry as you somewhat struggled to climb up, offering her hand to assist once you were within reach. You thanked her once you were off the rope, before turning to watch Ada on the bridge that was now to the side and a level lower than where you stood. She was already up and shooting again.
Shooting in the direction of the building you were standing in.
“Leon!” Helena gasped, making your eyes snap away from Ada to the man on the rope below. Leon was speeding up in his already fast climb, vulnerable while trying to stay out of reach of Simmons, who was now chasing him up the side of the building.
“Oh shit!” You shouted, not realizing Simmons was so close to Leon. You debated maybe using your gun to help, but you didn't want to risk hurting Leon.
Ada was already aware of this, as she had been shooting at Simmons while you all climbed. Simmons, pissed off at being shot at by her, stopped his chase with Leon and pushed off the side of the building toward the bridge Ada was on.
Simmons managed to land on the bridge before charging towards Ada, hitting her hard and knocking her off her feet. You winced, worry increased when she didn't get up after that hit.
“Ada!” You and Leon yelled. Leon tells Helena to cover him, before jumping off of the rope, using some destroyed parts of the building sticking out on the side to help him get over the bridge before fully jumping down, landing on the glass roof with a roll.
“Leon!” Helena shouted as he rose to his feet, running over to check on Ada while also protecting her from Simmons with his pistol. Helena began to shoot from where she stood as you quickly attempted to scale down the side of the building to get to the damn bridge.
The fear of falling was long forgotten. You were more scared of losing Ada than your own untimely death.
“Get away from her, Leon! You're not half the man she needs!” You heard Simmons' distorted voice yell.
Figures he is more threatened by Leon's presence than yours. Even when you were Ada's lover. Did his delusional mind think he could “steal” her from you but not Leon? You huffed angrily as you climbed down, sick of Simmons and his twisted self.
Ada is not an object to be stolen and possessed. Something Simmons never understood.
Either way, you disagreed. Leon is more man than Simmons was or ever could have been. Him immediately jumping in to help Ada, to help both of you, time and time again over the years has proved it to you. Of course Simmons is threatened by Leon and his selflessness. He didn't have a care for anyone other than himself and his wants. He can't bear the thought that someone could be better than him.
And Leon is better than Simmons in every way imaginable.
“Come with me, my love.” Simmons demanded Ada as you finally hopped down onto the bridge, taking your gun out to help Leon and Helena cover Ada. A quick glance over showed they were both okay. Leon was crouched over Ada protectively with her head resting on his lap, determined to protect her from the monster while she was unable to protect herself. Unfortunately, Ada was still unresponsive. “We'll be together forever!”
“Not if we can help it.” Leon said, nodding to you in acknowledgment when he was aware of your presence beside him. You nodded back, grateful for him immediately taking that jump to help her where you couldn't.
“Come on, Ada. Wake up!” You urged as you shot Simmons, more aware of your depleting ammo supply than ever. You hope it lasts.
“If you're really Ada… I know you can pull through this.” Leon said, hoping she could hear. Hoping you all can make it through this. “We all can.”
Seeing that Simmons was gearing up to shoot with his tail, Leon grabbed your arm and tugged you down to his and Ada's level, shielding you both as best he could with his own body. You gasped in shock as he took the shots for you both, eyes wide as you watched him grunt in pain.
“Leon!” You moved to take a look at his back once the shooting stopped, grimacing when you saw the deep, scratch-like wounds Simmons had caused.
Ada made a noise, causing the both of you to look at her and see she was finally awake.
“I was just resting my eyes.” Ada joked weakly, making you laugh as Leon helped her up, ignoring his own injuries for the moment.
“Shouldn't sleep on the job.” Leon quipped back. You smiled in amusement, before checking Leon over real quick when you saw Ada was back up and ready to finish this fight.
“You okay?” You asked, looking at his back again to make sure he wasn't bleeding uncontrollably.
He gave a small smile at your concern, before shrugging it off to focus on the mission at hand. “I'm fine.”
Deciding to trust his judgement and not push further, you too faced Simmons. You all raised your guns, and attacked the monster as a team. Ada no longer had an issue with you helping her in this fight. Honestly, after that hit she took? You wouldn't give her a choice. You're helping her whether she likes it or not. She is not dying tonight because of her stubbornness.
Not on your watch, or Leon’s.
“In case you haven't noticed, Simmons doesn't take rejection very well.” Ada sarcastically told Leon, who let out a huff that you interpreted as a “yeah, no shit.”
“Is there some backstory I should know here?” Leon asked, eyes darting between Simmons, Ada, and you for answers. You shrugged with an apologetic face as you reloaded. That is not your story to tell, which he understood.
“Nothing worthwhile.” Ada dismissed. Leon raised a brow, but didn't question further.
“Awe come on, Ada. Poor man must be so confused.” You teased to break some of the tension, making her smirk in response as Leon tried and failed to keep his own smile from forming.
“No time for story telling, love.” Ada reminded, making you let out a mock sigh of defeat.
“Oh yeah.”
Leon piped up with a shrug as he aimed his gun again, “That's all right. I'm used to your mysterious ways, Ada.” He smirked as he glanced at you for a second. “And you've clearly learned a lot of that mysteriousness from her.”
You let out a short laugh as you all backed away from Simmons, who was steadily trying to get closer. “She's a great teacher.”
“Ha. Ha.” Ada deadpanned. Then all focus returned to trying to take down Simmons.
The cycle continued. Shoot and dodge. Shoot and dodge. You were beginning to wonder if any of your efforts were actually going to accomplish anything. Was he even weakening? How many times are you all going to have to shoot him before he drops dead?
Simmons seemed to be getting annoyed by this cycle too, because he made a sudden move that shocked everyone. He charged forward at a speed that caught you all off guard. Leon, who was standing closer to the monster, got hit by the attack. You gasped when he was knocked off his feet, rolling off the edge of the bridge.
“Leon!” You and Ada yelled, watching as he quickly grabbed the edge and held on for dear life, knowing that he would be done for if he fell from this height.
Simmons changed again from mutated monster form to mutated man form, moving closer to where Leon was hanging. He stomped on one of Leon's hands, forcing him to hold on with just one. Which worried you, because he was clearly already tired from such a long night.
Ada and you rushed forward as Simmons glared at Leon with intense loathing, “Do you want to live? Then beg. Beg for your life!”
“I'll pass.” Leon spat back, not wanting to give the monster the satisfaction.
Ada rushed ahead of you, with a bolt from her crossbow now in her grasp. “Can't always get what you want, Simmons!”
After the words left her lips, she shoved the bolt right onto Simmons’ side, making him groan in pain as blood sprayed out of the stab wound.
“No! No!” Simmons shouted as Ada drove the bolt deeper into his side.
“Let's call this closure.” Ada hissed, pushing both herself and Simmons off the edge. You reached out to help Leon up as you watched them both fall. Ada quickly let Simmons go, using her grappling hook to stop her from following after him into the fire and debris below.
You watched as Simmons burned and writhed in agony below, hoping that was enough to fully finish him off. Distracted by this, you didn't notice when Ada appeared by your side, grabbing you without any warning and grappling you both to an opening in the building further away from the bridge you once stood on. Away from Leon with no more words exchanged.
“Ada! Y/n!” Leon shouted, having not noticed her either until she was already grappling off with you.
“Sorry, Leon!” Was all you shouted back, knowing Ada was determined to finish this. She didn't want to stand there explaining everything to Leon. Not right now.
Once landed, you lightly shoved her shoulder in annoyance for not warning you before doing that. She just smirked in response as her eyes snapped over to Leon, seeing him staring at you both. His confusion about everything was clear. And you thought you saw a bit of sadness in his expression as he gazed at you both. You felt a twinge of sadness in your chest as well, leaving without being able to just talk to the man you considered a friend.
Once again, you are forced to go your separate ways.
Ada took out the cubed communicator, glancing back up at Leon before typing at it. You watched from over her shoulder as she typed out a message:
Wish we could stay longer, but we've gotta run. Left you a little parting gift on the roof. See you down the road, Leon.
-Ada
“He gets the helicopter? Lucky him.” You smiled in Leon's direction, watching as his eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
“So cute.” Ada teasingly commented, making you nod in agreement.
“Even with everything he’s been through over the years, he still somehow has that puppy look about him.” You were only half joking. Leon's demeanor had obviously hardened over the years, mostly out of necessity. Yet there are moments you can still catch a glimpse of his younger self in the man.
“You're really confused by all this, aren't you, Leon?” Ada commented aloud, knowing he can't hear. “It's kind of fun to watch.”
“Sadist.” You teased, making her lightly kick your shin in response. “You just proved my point.”
“Shut up.” She laughed then flipped the cube off, which sent the message she typed over to Leon. His confused look continued as he glanced between the message he received and the two of you. Ada just smirked, shaking her head before nudging you to start moving.
“Come on.” She muttered, waving to Leon without glancing back as she led on. You only went to follow after you made sure to wave your own goodbye to Leon. A small smile on your face as you quickly turned to follow right behind your love.
“Y/n!” Leon shouted again, trying to get you both to stop and turn around. “Ada!”
Neither one of you turned back. Ada was ready to finish this. And you were ready to help her do it.
Working on the next chapter of I Wish I Could Walk In Heels! It may take a couple more days though. Sorry for slacking lol. But I just wanted to let people know that I am working on it! ❤️
Working on the next chapter of I Wish I Could Walk In Heels! It may take a couple more days though. Sorry for slacking lol. But I just wanted to let people know that I am working on it! ❤️
AN: So the original goal was for me to finish writing out the entire last part of the game and to post a longer chapter, but then I ended up having a lot of things come up. Travelling and yada yada. You don't care lol. We are getting close to the end! Not sure what I am going to be writing when this is done. Probably oneshots and imagines or something. I don't think I am mentally ready to try another long form fanfic at the moment lmao. We'll see. Hope you all enjoy this chapter! I really wanted to get something out and I hope it's all okay.
Chapter 43:
“He's… huge!” Helena shouted in horror.
“Oh boy…” Leon added, clearly dreading having another one of these fights. Ada and you were right there with him, not at all happy by the turn of events.
Your eyes widened as you saw the man mutate and grow into a horrific creature. What Simmons became is kind of hard to describe. His new form was almost T-Rex shaped, yet still boney and fleshy. It was sort of like a human that was put through a meat grinder and then crudely put back together again by someone who loved dinosaurs…
Only much larger too.
You think you still catch a glimpse of that yellow eyeball, which was usually found with these mutations, on his back and in his… mouth? It was possibly the mouth. It was vaguely mouth shaped. Either way, there are weak spots.
You pointed this out to Ada, who immediately aimed and fired the helicopter's weapon system at the weak spot on its back as the mutated Simmons chased after Leon and Helena.
Both of you gasped when the creature flipped into the air, swatting at the helicopter with rage. The chopper spun dangerously as Ada quickly worked to regain control before you both could crash. You sighed in relief when she righted it and steered away from the wall you almost slammed into.
“That was close.” Ada huffed, once more aiming and shooting at the yellow weak spot.
“Too close.” You agreed, wishing there was something you could do from your seat to help more. Especially something to help the two currently running and shooting for their lives below you.
Luckily, someone in a combat vehicle managed to drive into the makeshift fighting arena that everyone was circling. Helena and Leon immediately hopped in, using the very big guns strapped to the back as the mystery man drove around in circles as fast as he could go away from the monster. Helena and Leon aimed for the yellow eye weak spot in the monster's mouth, while Ada aimed for the one on his back. Occasionally, she would aim for the gas tanks that happen to be close to the mutated Simmons, making them blow up and cause some damage to him.
Unfortunately, this little cycle they all had going did not last for long. The driver tried to turn again to avoid some debris, but then Simmons managed to catch up and flip the car. Leon and Helena went flying out of it, landing harshly on the ground. The driver sadly did not make it, ending up trapped under the flipped car as it caught fire. Mutated Simmons roared with fury, gearing himself up to attack again.
“I think we pissed him off!” Leon shouted. Both he and Helena were back on their feet, trying to keep distance between them and the monster in front of them.
“Just stay focused, we can take him!” Helena said, determined to defeat Simmons.
“He's angry now.” Ada commented in agreement with Leon as she went back to shooting Simmons once Helena and Leon moved further away.
“I think he has been angry, Ada.” You paused before asking, “Do you think if I hang out the window to shoot, it will help?”
Ada gave you an incredulous look. “ No. I think you would fall out and end up a blood splatter on the ground. Don't you dare.”
“Is there anything I can do to help?” You asked, desperate to do something besides just sitting and twiddling your thumbs in the passenger seat of the helicopter.
“Umm…” She paused, glancing at you apologetically before resuming her careful shooting. “Not at the moment, dear. But you know, your presence helps make me feel better. So you are helping in a way.”
She was only half joking with that statement. You being there did help her feel more steady through her inner turmoil. In her mind, this whole mission would have been much harder to get through if you weren't there to support her through it. Your eagerness to help really just pulled at her heart strings, even with the current situation at hand.
“So sappy.” You jested weakly, tensing as Ada dodged another hit from the mutated Simmons.
“Sappy, but true.” Ada smirked.
After some time, and a lot of bullets, the Simmons monster finally fell over in defeat. Ada pointed the lights of the helicopter toward Helena and Leon.
“Can't stay out of trouble, can you Leon?” Ada said mostly to you and herself, knowing Leon couldn't hear.
“Like you're one to talk.” You smiled playfully, making her return the gesture.
“You're just as bad.” Ada said, before looking back at Leon. “He's still always one step behind.”
“Can't blame him. Doubt he has all of the details.” You reminded her. Ada just hummed, flying the helicopter up toward the roof of the tower.
“You and Carla have left a lot of misery in your wake, Simmons. I'm gonna make sure it all ends here.” Ada declared, determined to stop this once and for all.
You caught sight of two people on top of a building, waving their arms for help. They were surrounded by the infected, and their odds didn't look great. But there may be a chance that Ada could help them if she aimed carefully.
“Think you can help?” You asked her, eyeing the remaining amount of ammo in concern.
Ada nodded, “Maybe. I can at least buy them some time. We've all seen enough senseless death for one day.”
Ada shot down the horde of zombies on top of the building, carefully avoiding the two survivors. After they were safe, she flew the helicopter towards another rooftop, where there were more survivors that were stranded and begging for help. She shot more zombies, wincing slightly when she shot off part of the building, a signal tower, that ended up impaling a zombie.
“Hope they got insurance.” Ada joked, making you laugh as she finished off the remaining infected and saved the survivors on the roof. “I'd like to do more. I really would. But carrying everyone out isn't an option.”
Ada flew toward the helicopter landing zone, huffing when she saw all the infected in the way. “Excuse me, I'm trying to land here.”
“Zombies have no manners.” You shook your head in mock disappointment. Then you gasped when you saw the zombie soldiers shooting the guns still held in their hands haphazardly. “I just feel like they shouldn't have weapons. Why do they have weapons?”
“Because the universe finds it funny to annoy us.” Ada commented sarcastically, shooting them down while also dodging the stray bullets they were able to aim at you.
Finally, the landing was clear and the helicopter could go down to the rooftop safely. Lightning and thunder rumbled through the sky as a storm started close by.
After safely landing, Ada and you hopped out of the helicopter. But before going far, Ada took out a rocket launcher from the back, leaning it up against the helicopter. Just in case.
“Alright.” Ada looked at you after she finished checking the ammo count in her gun, “Time to clean up the last of Simmons' mess. Are you ready?”
You quickly checked your own weapons, before nodding your confirmation. “As I'll ever be.”
Ada used her grappling hook to help you both cross to the other tower, using the crane as a makeshift bridge between the two. You were very careful and a bit slower in crossing than Ada was. Heights this high made you feel extremely nervous. Or it was more of the possibility of falling that made you nervous. Though you knew if you fell, Ada would do everything she could to try and catch you.
Once you had crossed to the tower you needed to get to, Ada reminded you of the current goal at hand. “The last item on the list is to eliminate all traces of the theft of my identity. We really don't want that getting into the wrong hands… Again.”
“Yeah. Sounds like a plan.” You easily agreed.
Neither of you would want to have a repeat of this happen if you could help it. Ada and you have already come this far, and neither of you are willing to give up now.
AN: Idk, I tried lol. The more I look at this the more I think it sucks. Hopefully it doesn't. I just have been having a rough time writing, but I am determined to finish this. We are nearing the end I think. I hope you all enjoy!
Chapter 42:
“You know, even after over a decade together, I had no idea you could fly one of these things.” You commented as you watched Ada expertly start up the helicopter with quick movements that told you she had done this before.
Which is weird, considering you've never been on a mission with her that required her to actually fly a helicopter.
Ada smirked as she hurriedly flicked switches and buttons. What those buttons did, you did not know. But there was no time for a flying lesson at the moment.
“It's been a while, but I think I understand the basics still.” She admitted as she took hold of the steering and flawlessly raised the helicopter off the ground. “Just like riding a bike.” Ada purred with a satisfied smirk.
You huffed a slightly nervous laugh, “I hope so.”
“Don't trust me? I'm hurt.” Ada teased, as the helicopter rose higher and higher off the ship's ground.
“It's not you that I don't trust… But also please don't crash.” You joked back. She just shook her head while she huffed an amused laugh.
The sound of another engine nearby made you and Ada turn your heads toward the window beside her. The source of the sound was a jet filled with BSAA members taking off, flying toward the city.
“I'll let them clean up Carla's mess,” you watched as Ada took out the small statue of the Quad Tower she had stolen before to look at it. The determination was clear on her face, “while I take care of Simmons’.”
Her gaze then fell on you, expression serious as she asked, “Are you still with me?”
You knew she was just being courteous by giving you the chance to leave before things became too much. It was something she had done before with any mission that became concerning, even to her. You have never taken that out before, and you didn't plan to take it now. This wasn't just a normal risky mission. This was personal to her…
Which means it was also personal to you.
“You're crazy if you think I am going to bail on you now.” You stated firmly, before giving her a slight smile, “I've never taken that offer before, Ada. If I had wanted out, I would have left by now.”
She stared at you for a moment, letting her doubt melt away before she smiled back with a more confident grin, gently moving her free hand to hold yours in a sweet gesture.
“You're right, I should have known!” She exclaimed humorously “What was I thinking? Forgive me?”
“You're excused. But just this once.” You teased as she steered the helicopter and flew away from the dock of the ship. Her hand held tightly to yours for as long as she was safely able to.
-July 1st, 2013 in Tatchi, China-
The state of the city was not looking great.
From your spot in the helicopter flying above it all, there were only flames burning brightly off of the destroyed buildings and zombies roaming the streets as far as you could see.
Cars were wrecked and the bodies of the dead that didn't walk were strewn about in a scene that you could only describe as apocalyptic. Those who had happened to survive sadly did not stand a chance against the growing numbers of the infected.
The similarities of this scene to the one back in Raccoon City was harrowing, to say the least. And that same, helpless, feeling you had way back then when witnessing other survivors being brutally killed before you could even blink had made a return with a force that made your stomach flip nauseatingly.
So many were suffering, and there was nothing that you could do about it. The damage was already done. This was only further proven soon after that solemn thought crossed your mind.
“This is HQ, requesting damage estimate.” A voice over the comms stated to other BSAA members. You just listen as you watch the horrific scenes below you fly by.
“This place is done!” Another voice shouted in response, “There are B.O.W's everywhere!”
“She wasn't joking about raising hell.” Ada commented from beside you. Your gaze drifted to Ada when she broke the tense silence. She was just as upset by the sight, you think, as she steered the helicopter past all of the chaos and gore.
“This sucks.” You weakly stated. It was all you could think to say in response. It was an obvious understatement, but you were unable to verbally come up with the words to accurately describe how awful the state of the city really was, and how badly you felt about it.
Ada just nodded as she took a moment to reach over and give your hand a brief squeeze with her own, understanding exactly what those simple words were trying to convey.
There was a sudden explosion up ahead that captured yours and Ada's attention. Giving your hand one last squeeze, she withdrew her hand and fully focused on flying the helicopter toward the commotion. Curiosity and concern urged you both to take a closer look.
And of course, at the center of the scene was Leon and Helena, surrounded by the infected and looking worse for wear. Clearly it has been a long night for everyone.
“Leon…” Ada muttered.
“Somehow I'm not surprised.” You said, squinting at what you think is the weapons system on the dash and pointing to a number on one of the screens. “Is this the amount of ammo this thing has?”
“It is.” Ada confirmed, knowing exactly where this was going and being completely fine with it.
“Better make it count then.” You gave her a nod of encouragement, “Hope you know how to use it.”
Ada smirked, “Let's find out.”
As Ada used the weapon system, carefully aiming her shots and steering the helicopter, you noticed your comms had tapped into Leon's and Helena's, allowing you to hear what they were saying.
“Leon! It's…” Helena said as she stared up in surprise.
“Ada! I thought she was dead.” Leon exclaimed, clearly just as shocked as Helena was.
“Oh yeah… We still didn't tell him, did we?” You tried to remember your last conversation with the man throughout all of the chaos of this mission, but it has honestly just been a blur of one thing after another. And frankly, your brain could not focus enough with the rough jerks of the helicopter and the ear piercing sound of the weapon system firing.
“Nope.” Ada responded, focused hard on not hitting the other two living individuals.
“Let's move while we can!” Helena stated, confused, but clearly grateful for the helping hand Ada is providing them.
“I'm beginning to feel like your personal bodyguard, Mr. Kennedy.” Ada joked as she aimed at more zombies getting way too close to Leon and shot them down with the precision you could only dream of achieving.
“I think at this point you've saved his ass more than mine.” You laughed as you held on tightly to your seat to help steady yourself as she did a quick maneuver on the helicopter, which made you feel a little motion sick as a result.
“I wonder if this is a part of Simmons’ plans.” Leon commented as he and Helena tried to escape the infected still surrounding them.
“I doubt it. Even Simmons wasn't this sloppy.”
Eventually, Helena and Leon made it out alive through the horde. They turned to face the helicopter. You gave them a small wave, smirking with a giggle when you saw Leon's confused expression turn into an unimpressed stare toward you. Helena still just looked confused as she responded with a wave of her own.
“You're on your own now, you two.” And with that, Ada steered the helicopter away from them, back to flying toward your original destination.
Your eyes widened as you spotted more helicopters up ahead, clearly belonging to Carla's followers. Sighing anxiously, you decided now is the time to actually figure out how to work the damn seatbelt on this thing. It was way too complicated for your stressed out brain to figure out, fumbling with two ends that, for some reason, looked the exact same.
“Huh. It's getting a little crowded up here. Somebody ought to tell them their boss has retired.” Ada snarked, eyeing the amount of remaining ammo the helicopter had left.
“Please tell me we still have some left.” You begged, getting increasingly more frustrated and flustered when the seatbelt just would not click in, cursing under your breath.
“More than enough.” She glanced at you from the corner of her eye, before laughing. “Next time I'll buckle you in for you, love.”
“Ha. Ha.” You deadpanned, giving up on the seatbelt to just grab the “oh shit!” handle and your seat, holding on for dear life. “Focus on not getting us shot down into an epic ball of flames and metal!”
She smirked as she calmly replied with, “As you wish.”
Ada did her best, aiming directly at your opponents propellers to take them down before they could take you down. She shook her head when she saw the helicopters kept coming.
“They're getting desperate now. Carla really didn't want us getting to that tower.” She jerked to the side to narrowly avoid hitting a sign off the side of a building after taking down one of the helicopters. Embarrassingly, you couldn't help the startled yelp that escaped your mouth as you held on tighter to the handle and seat. Ada giggled, only slightly distracted from the task at hand.
“You okay?” She teasingly asked, side eyeing you.
“Peachy.” You gritted out. A gasp then escaped your throat as you caught sight of another flying death trap speeding toward your own. “Eyes on the road, Wong!”
She laughed harder, but her eyes moved forward to shoot the chopper. “Road?” She pointedly flew slightly higher, simultaneously to tease and to avoid another sign in your direct path.
“You know what I mean! Stop teasing me.” You huffed, stressed to the max as another helicopter flew into view. Her laughing continued for a few moments, clearly finding you amusing.
“You make it so easy!” She joked, shaking her head with a slight smirk as she spotted your glare from her peripheral vision.
You could swear you felt your heart try to jump out of your throat when you saw a much larger, much more equipped with scary weapons, helicopter flying to block your smaller one. “Shit! I really don't like the looks of that!”
Ada hummed, seemingly unintimidated. “That's a nice model. I wouldn't mind one of those for myself.”
“I'll keep that in mind for next christmas.” You dryly commented, making her snort as she aimed and fired. Being sure to dodge any shots aimed at you.
“Honestly… This is getting old.” Ada huffed, completely over it. You just nodded in agreement, not wanting to break her focus for this one.
Soon after, she was able to take down the large helicopter. You cheered and clapped your hands in celebration as the chopper went down in a ball of flames, crashing onto the streets below. You were glad your partner more or less knew what she was doing.
“All style, no substance. Typical.” Ada mockingly sighed in disappointment.
“Such a shame.” You added with a mocking tone of your own. In all seriousness, you were grateful for the lack of skills your opponents had. Their aim being the equivalent to that of storm troopers has definitely saved your ass tonight.
Well, that and Ada. Ada did much more to save your life. You think it might even be tied with Leon now, with all of that chaos you just got through thanks to her.
“I think we've wasted enough time here. Better get to the tower.” Ada said, flying the helicopter toward the path that would lead to your destination. You just crossed your fingers and silently hoped for no more opponents.
—
The sight before you and Ada from your spot in the helicopter was both surprising and unsurprising.
You'd just arrived at the tower, yet somehow, and this was the first thing that you had noticed after the spotlight pointed directly at the scene below, Leon and Helena had arrived here first. Even getting to the tower by flying, you only now arrived seemingly just in time.
Just in time for, and this was the second thing you noticed, a mutating Simmons getting ready to attack the two who had beat you here.
Catching Simmons mid mutation wasn't really all that surprising to you. Whether it happened through revenge or karma, it was bound to happen. That is usually how this type of mission tends to work out for you anyways. The final enemy was hardly ever as easy to take down as a fully human opponent.
The infected Simmons’ full attention went right to the helicopter, zeroing in on Ada in the pilot's seat. Ada only silently stared at the scene before her.
“I know what you did, Ada!” Simmons shouted, pointing a shaky hand at her, “You disobeyed me! You took Wesker's son away!”
Simmons grunted and shifted in pain, his skin breaking away in a grotesque sight that was honestly new as far as C-Virus transformations had been so far. Parts of newly forming muscle tore skin apart, as if this flesh was getting too small for what was underneath.
“You used that bastard's blood…” Simmons continued through pained movements and groans. “To make the virus stronger!”
Immediately after those words, he screamed in pain as steam shot out of his body and more flesh broke apart. The steam blocked most of your vision of the transformation, but judging by his screams, what he was feeling was excruciating.
Ada just stared right at him with a blank expression, eyes slightly glassy, yet never letting a single tear of anger or sadness fall. Both of you were fully aware that she was not the one responsible for what he was accusing her of. Yet still, she chose to let him believe that she was in his final moments as himself.
You watched silently as she stared coldly at the man writhing below. Her lips parted to declare her next words in a tone that was just as cold as her expression,

Just Dance. Mainly because I felt goofy trying to dance. But also, there was one time I was absent mindedly singing along to the song "Feeling Good", but I sang the words "fish in the pond" instead of "fish in the sea". My mom and sister laughed so hard at how confident I was when I was singing those lyrics lol. They have made it an inside joke ever since 😂

So far, I'd say Call Of Duty online. The game itself wasn't scary. But the people... Are certainly something.
More serious answer could be Left 4 Dead. Love that game! Though the zombies coming at me from all sides is so overwhelming and tends to freak me out lol.
Has a game ever genuinely changed how you think about something?

Watching my younger brother play GTA later made me feel really bad about ever messing with the NPC's when I played. He was so mean in that game 😂. To this day I can't cause chaos in that game without any guilt. Same with the animals in Minecraft.
Admittedly I already got sort of carried away with it. And the mysterious cat character has asked me a lot of questions after collecting the little check mark. Prepare for me to spam my dash with the inbox questions the cat asked me lmao.
