I asked a random little boy, Jack, to take a photo of me. I wanted to remember this walk and this day, and how I knew I needed to take a break and do something for me. I was proud of myself for knowing + listening to what I needed. So, I went to one of my favourite places and took some time for myself. I treated myself to an iced caramel macchiato, a late lunch, and a stroll along the water with my boy. I thought I would be out until hubby came home, and being out of the house with a story about my day would be “enough”. What I didn’t expect was the big smile on my face to look so true, which it is. No one tells you the changes you face becoming a mother. It’s emotionally challenging, tiring, physically damaging, and exhausting (and I’m only 9 months in.) BUT: among these demanding changes, look at my smile. Me and my boy and the sunshine. Pure happiness and a reminder of the simple things and the gifts from God. Parenting isn’t easy on a marriage, either. It’s easy to get mixed up in what really matters. This walk helped. After my walk, I’m buying myself a gift to cheer me up some more and for a reminder to take care of myself. You can only pour into others when your cup is full. I’m not sure if it will be flowers or a little something from my favourite shop, but I’m treating myself because I deserve it, and I’m writing this to vent and because Y O U deserve it, too.
