bucky really fucking likes fish sticks. they don't even remember when they first tried em, they just love em. sam loves to argue that technically it "isn't real fish" to which bucky replies something along the lines of "suck my dick, they taste good". nevertheless, every time bucky comes home there is always, without fail, a box of fish sticks in the freezer.

hc that when sam and bucky first start living together as a couple, it's in a raggedy apartment in new orleans that they make their own

their apartment was small, but full of the both of them. from their inherited sailboat shower curtain that seemingly always smelled of salt water, to their god awful shaggy rug that bucky thought would look nicely in their living room. on the side table a few feet from the door, a bowl sarah had gifted them that hold their keys, and a picture of sam and bucky on the docks that cass had taken on sarah's phone. their table cloth was the one bucky used to take sam on a picnic date. their large collection of wine was purely sam, no excuse for it. it was homey, full of life. and it was theirs.

in that apartment is where bucky first realized that they had a home. that they had a place to call their own and people they loved and others they cherished. that, for the first time on their own terms, they were truly free.

in that apartment is where sam put his past behind him. where he tucked riley and his parents and karli and everyone he has lost into his heart and moved on. where he saw his future. where he saw his bucky. and he couldn't be happier.

when they eventually decide to move out, get a bigger place, they give their thanks. they thank the off-white wallpaper of their first home for the memories and the chances it gave them. it was a teary goodbye, but a necessary one. and when they drive down lucason street, they always stop to admire the greasy looking building that gave them a second chance at living.
