fic writers and readers are mostly ppl exploited and demonized by companies, who strongly support the strikes. AO3 is a communalist nonprofit with no owner, dedicated to free writing. Just to weigh in on the comment about “proper security :( :( :(“ above, we’ve seen multiple large corporate websites with much larger budgets than AO3 get DDOS’d offline in the past couple of years. The ability to withstand a DDOS attack has a lot less to do with computer security (as in the preventing intrusion/hacker voice “I’m in”) and a lot more with paying Cloudflare or having a large enough (tech giant sized) network to support it.
I don’t know what this person’s issue is with AO3 or why they feel entitled to tell other people how to spend their money, but I’m not a fan of leaving ridiculously false statements uncorrected.
