Who would have thought that the “typhoon” we know that destroy places and spaces leaving people devastated with their shattered dreams and broken lives has revved up my existence. I know it might sound crazy but this one is completely different. It was utterly awesome and definitely remarkable. And I was there, not a victim, but as a witness.
It was the last day of February 2015 when big waves of rejoicing flooded the Pamantasan as the College of Mass Communication celebrated its 12th year founding anniversary dubbed as WAVE 2015.
I was thrilled with new and exciting experience that the college has prepared. A hurricane of activities mounted the celebration with multi-arts festival activities centered on film, photography, poetry, theater arts, music and dance. It was the first time that something this huge is gusting the PLM grounds.
With the gentle wind that blows from the ocean onto the land, the anniversary kicked off with a Thanksgiving Mass by Father Joel held at PLM Chapel. I was delighted to hear the homily which inspired me to not just become one of those successful people in the industry but to become the best person, doing best things for people while carrying out my profession as a future publicist quoting Father Jose, "Ordinary people do good. Great people do good more".
Then, each one offered a prayer of gratitude for the whole fantastic year happened in the college and for the prosperous year ahead of us. Everybody was all fired up by the encouraging words said by our much-loved Dean, Prof. Ludmila Labagnoy for her remarks. The one that really got me was when she said, "I am Maskom. I am MassComm-ited". I was in awe with the magnanimity she have imparted to us, that we, future communicators, should be “the waves” that sweeps the misunderstood image of our college and the industry we will be delving to.
After which, roars of thunder came crashing down the UTMT (Under The Mango Tree) as the powerful Vagina Monologues were delivered by CMC’s brave and untamed women. Those compelling soliloquies left the audiences surprised and astonished in the course of women empowerment as the CMC also welcomed Women’s Month.
It was followed by a Poetry Slam showcasing Maskom’s creativity with whirlwind of artsy yet thought provoking words of love, pain, equality and respect accompanied by WAVE 2015’s live art. The whole people were cheering and applauding because of the enthralling words striking through everyone’s heart.
But the most monumental moment in the Poetry Slam was the official statement of CMC’s 12th year anniversary, the #ThisIsWhoIAm campaign. This is a strong call to define ourselves that we can be and should be proud of who we are and end all those stereotypes we were called. It feels so great hearing out and letting out our knacks-and-bents to people who just call us “lang”. The piece that was delivered was so gratifying, echoing in the whole Pamantasan that we are not just Maskom students, we are not just “Maskom lang”. We are Mass Communication students!
The festivity got wilder when Waveland was opened with tremendous line up of activities, games, booths, giveaways and freebies. The surge of fun and enthusiasm ripples to the entire university veering students from all colleges in the PLM soccer field joining the WAVE 2015.
Wave2015’s good ol’ school fair was more heated up by live performances of CMC Upbeat, Maskom’s sessionistas and the acoustic duo, Bea Llagas and Renz Polumbrit. Also, sweet day it is when the Cotton Candy of Manong was publicly announced free for all. Hosted by CMC’s wackiest quartet, Waveland assured boundless laughter and cheers for everyone.
The celebration’s last hurrah was calming as sea, when films that were originally made and produced by CMC students were showcased through an open cinema called Reel Night as well as the works of Adolf Alix Jr. and Roy Iglesias. People had a great time watching those films under the stars with free scrumptious pop-corns provided by the college.
I never thought that storm surge can be a lot more fun and fulfilling, leaving everyone happy with big bright smiles and sparkling eyes. Everyone was rest assured that these waves will continue to deluge the Pamantasan for more years to come. I am so honored to be THE WAVE.
“Trust played a big role in our relationship. Becauseof our love for each other, we were able to build a strong enough relationship to make it through the bumps.”
· The Love Story
It was an ordinary night of December 2004 when Rachelle and her barkada had an evening bike ride in their subdivision in Bulacan, but not until she saw Andrew and his brother sitting outside their house. They didn’t seem familiar to Rachelle since they were originally from the US and just having a vacation. During the subdivision’s Christmas party, her friend, Eric, introduced
them to their group of friends. This is where they formally met and knew each other. From that day on, they started hanging out with the barkada and eventually became friends.
“Although Andrew only stayed for 3 weeks during his first visit, we had already become good friends and even better friends during his second visit two years later in 2006,” said Rachelle.
But their friendship has gotten into a higher level when both of them develop a closer bond and mutual understanding.
It wasn’t hard for Rachelle to befriend Andrew because he is the kind of person who would do anything to help his friends. “The thing I love about him most is how understanding and patient he is. I’m not the nicest person, and I feel so fortunate to have someone who understands me and who accepts me despite my flaws. His good look is a bonus. I guess I hit the jackpot,”, said Rachelle.
Throughout Andrew’s six-month stay in the Philippines, he courted Rachelle with the help of their friend, Gio, who acted as a middle man. They’ve spent every moment getting to know each other more through hanging out, watching movies, wandering around the subdivision and keeping in touch when they weren’t together.
On April 28, 2008,which was also Rachelle’s birthday, Andrew presented his gift asking her to be his girlfriend and without further ado, Rachelle said the magical word, “YES!” because of the mutual feeling she shares with him. “It was the best birthday present I had ever received,” said Rachelle.
They were as happy as they could be, but of course they’d fear on risking a relationship in a long distance set-up since Andrew had to go back to US. “I felt very sad and scared of what was going to happen to us…..but I took the risk because I loved him,” Rachelle assured.
However, they did not let the distance obstruct their relationship. They’ve overcome the struggles of being parted from each other by communicating through email, IM, video calls and text messages. Long distance relationship is not an easy set-up, it requires a lot of sacrifice and adjustments to keep the relationship going.
“She takes care of me and I know that she always will. Even when we were on opposite sides of the world, she would do her best to love and care for me. Being so far apart can be tough on relationships, but one reason we stayed so strong is because Rachelle is so faithful. I’ve never second guessed her love for me and have never doubted our relationship,” Andrew said.
Andrew would work every school’s summer break so he could save money and come visit Rachelle in the Philippines every year, treasuring every single day they have together and making the most out of it. Misunderstandings may be inevitable but they are able to strengthen their commitment in the course of transparency and honesty.
As their love for each other grew deeper and stronger, they have learned to respect and accept each other differences and flaws before finally wedding 5 years and 6 months later.
· The Proposal
Just two days before Andrew’s flight to US, a big revelation has been told. On a very special night of August 19, 2012, Andrew picked up Rachelle, who had no idea about anything, from work and went hurriedly went to Sun Cruises. Unfortunately, the dinner cruise in Manila Bay was cancelled due to the bad weather. He then asked Rachelle where to go, and they decided to go to Mall of Asia. When they got there, Andrew lightened up when he saw the MOA Eye.
After having a dinner in Abe restaurant, they rode the Ferris wheel. Before reaching the top, Andrew held her hand and asked, “Would you like to spend forever with me?” and with a pounding heart, Rachelle replied, “Yes,” Andrew then knelt in front of her, holding a small box and opening it saying, “Will you marry me?” and in Rachelle’s surprise, she hugged him tight as she could and answered a big and joyous, “YES!”. Right then and there, they knew that nothing could stop them, not even the distance, from spending the rest of their lives together in love.
· The Wedding Preparation
It was quite hard for the couple to plan for their big day especially Rachelle’s part. because of
Andrew’s absence in the Philippines, she knew she would be handling the majority of the preparation with such great pressure, she didn’t know where to start, and all she knew was that she wanted to have a simple but elegant wedding, remembering her fiance saying, “Whatever you like because all I want is to get married to you”.
With the help of her parents, they began the preparation in November of 2012. They searched for churches and reception venues and came across the beautiful Fernwood Gardens where she thought to the perfect place for their wedding, she then reserved the date. Rachelle had a hard time picking the right suppliers considering the budget without compromising the quality of the resources.
Fortunately, they found the right ones by attending several bridal fairs. And because Rachelle is a simple person, she didn’t want loud colors for their wedding and came up with their Peach and Gold motif.
Along with preparing the materials and suppliers was planning for the wedding program.
The couple had picked their closest friends and relatives for entourage. “For the principal sponsors, we picked those who we thought are the most influential to us and to whom we look up to in terms of their relationships with their own family and friends,” said Rachelle.
The couple was very blessed to have the people who have helped them plan and prepare for their wedding. Their parents had supported and guided them with all the supplier meetings and wedding preparation. Rachelle’s elder brother, Ramiel, who designed the invitations and provided all other stationeries for the wedding and her sisters, Reneeca and Reneelou, who helped her with the other wedding details.
“We would like to thank all our relatives and friends who contributed and participated on our special day,” the couple said.
· Rachelle shares her experience during their special day
I felt nervous and excited at the same time. I had an overwhelming sense of happiness knowing that I was about to fulfill the dream of marrying my soulmate. For me, the most memorable part of our wedding was when I walked down the aisle, seeing Andrew standing on the other end waiting for me in anticipation.

· Rachelle’s surprise song number for Andrew
Two Words by Lea Salonga
In a while, in a word,
Every moment now returns.
For a while, seen or heard,
How each memory softly burns.
Facing you who brings me new tomorrows,
I thank God for yesterdays,
How they led me to this very hour,
How they led me to this place
Every touch, every smile,
You have given me in care.
Keep in heart, always I'll,
Now be treasuring everywhere.
And if life should come to just one question,
Do I hold this moment true?
No trace of sadness,
Always with gladness
'I DO.'
Now a song that speaks of now and ever,
Beckons me to someone new,
Unexpected, unexplored, unseen,
Filled with promise coming through.
In a while, in a word,
You and I forever change,
Love so clear, never blurred,
Has me feeling wondrous, strange,
And if life should come to just one question,
Do I face each moment true?
No trace of sadness, always with gladness,
'I DO.'
Never with sadness...
Always with gladness...
'I...DO....'

"You need to face constant challenges and trials that will make you grow as a couple and you need to embrace it with open arms since it will always be a part of your married life. "
- Jonathan “Joey” Ng
The Love Story
Joey and Adie first met in high school. Back then, Adie was a transferee from another school. As a new student she’s feeling peculiar and quite shy but not when she was befriended by her classmates, one of which is Joey who happens to be her seatmate. Adie even jokingly asked “pa-cheating ha?” on approaching Joey that initiated their first conversation. Joy and Adie got to know each other more even outside school. They started hang outing with the barkada and became really good friends.
As their friendship grew stronger, their relationship became deeper. It started when only the two of them were left to hang out because most of their friends were busy. And by chance, they have taken their friendship into a next level.
Adie fell in love with Joey’s optimism on how he sees life. “He gives me balance especially when certain things do not go the way I expected to be”, Adie said.
The couple get along by watching movies, playing billiard and bowling, go swimming and travelling together. They also spend their time discussing their plans and dreams in life. Joey and Adie always enjoy themselves together and make every single moment the sweetest thing that has happened in their lives.
“I learn many things in life from Adie. She has her own special way to make me feel her unconditional love”, Joey said.
Joey and Adie dated for 12 years decided got married in June 29, 2013.
The Wedding Preparation
Getting married is definitely the sweetest thing that will happen in your whole existence but preparing for it is really a tough one. It requires patience and understanding for couple so they can both win the argument. So with Joey and Adie’s wedding, they try to be calm as possible and get positive things out of negative situations or disagreements.
“Even when there are disagreements, we don’t forget to respect each other. Let one talk first then the other follows, compromise is really a big word but it always helps us to get through everything”, said Adie.
The most difficult decision they had to make is the list of people who will attend the wedding and is to decide where the venue would be, either in Manila or Makati. But they compromise by looking at the advantages and disadvantages of the areas and then settled to have it done in Manila. “We have the same understanding on the consequences and what will be the responsibilities and obligations once the things have already been agreed upon”, Adie said.
Throughout the preparation, Joey and Adie supported each other and try to have positive outlook as they coordinators says, “If it's meant to happen it's going to happen you just need to have faith in everything.” The couple didn’t leave each other and and talk the problems through. “In the end of the day what's important is the union of us couple and we try to keep that always in mind all throughout our wedding preparation”, added Adie.
Joey and Adie believed and said, “Life is not always what you want to happen but have faith and patience, then everything will fall into the right place. Preparations do make you feel like you’re walking on a thin ice but in the end it will make you stronger as a couple and fulfilled that giving your time and effort is all worth it.”
The Wedding Day
Joey and Adie’s most anticipated day has finally come. The couple is feeling loved up, happy and ecstatic.
· The couple shares their thoughts during their wedding day
From this day everything will be a great victorious journey for us together. Feeling fulfilled in the end that everything happened on how we envisioned it to be. A happy and memorable day filled with all the people that are important to us, we really could not ask for more.
· Word of advice for aspiring soon to wed
Couples should always remember that above all the wedding preparations; the most important thing is the sacrament of marriage that will bind the two of you together for as long as you both shall live. Just don't give up on each other no matter what happen. It will not only make you a great person but it will also prove to yourself that true great love does still exist.
· Changes brought by married life
When you are single you just worried about yourself, your career, your own life and how you like it to be. But that all change when we got married, you need to be in one with your common goal. You need to face constant challenges and trials that will make you grow as a couple and you need to embrace it with open arms since it will always be a part of your married life. Challenges and obstacles are part of life and as long as you refuse to face it, you will not become a better person from yesterday. And now that I have a great partner (wife) in life there’ll be no reason for me to lose in the battle called life.
· Thank you message for family, friends and wedding suppliers

To our Friends and Guests, your attendance was the most precious gift you have given us and this will forever be kept in our hearts, spending it with us is enough reason for us to feel how much thankful we are that you share it with us even just for a while.
We just don't have the perfect formula to make everyone feel how much thankful we are and to repay each and every one of you. Wishing that even just a simple "THANK YOU VERY MUCH" is already enough to make each one of you feel that we really meant the words we say.
“I agree that no one is perfect but, I can proudly say that he is my perfect half.”
Diana Natividad-Ang
The Love Story
Love has gotten into Kerwin and Diana when they met in college as blockmates in UST. It started when one indescribable moment struck Kevin and can’t keep his eyes off Diana.
“It was hard not to notice her because she really does stand out in any crowd”, said Kerwin.
There is something in Diana that made Kerwin eager to know her more so he kept asking his classmates and Diana’s barkada about her. He even offered himself in helping Diana with some of the assignments or projects in school just so he can be with her. Well, obviously, Kevin courted Diana. They started talking, telling stories, texting and chatting on the internet.
What Kerwin likes about Diana is that she is sweet and funny at jokes and pretty clever especially in numbers. Despite of her being “masungit” and terrifying sometimes, he loved Diana for who she is. “I accept her for who she is then, now, and will be”, said Kervin.
Then finally, after all Kerwin’s hardwork and “hard” challenges on winning Diana’s heart, she finally gave the big “YES” on February 24, 2008. From that moment on, they started a whole new chapter of their lives.
Diana is delighted to have his sweet Kerwin by her side as he makes her feel like a princess like no one else can. “We don’t have any pretensions when we’re together. He accepts me as I am, I accept him as he is”, Diana said.
These two have undeniably loved each other beyond their imperfections. They been together for six years and amazingly haven’t gotten into a major fight. Of course they were some unexpected situations but the two have learned to shrug them off, not get affected, just be happy and cherish what they have. “What matters most is we love each other and we take care of each other”, the couple said.
Though Diana is more bubbly and more of a social person, the couple have a lot in common and shares the same interest. They love to travel a lot, going to spa, love all those pampering and shopping. “We are that compatible!”,Kerwin and Diana proudly exclaimed.
The Proposal
The couple was in one of their busiest days on work and having a great deal to do but Kerwin had in his mind this brilliant idea that would ease Diana’s rush.
One morning, they had an appointment with a supplier. Kerwin had his driver picked Diana at her house and told Diana to go into his room as soon as they arrived on Kevin’s house. However, Diana was kinda in a hurry and didn’t want to go in his room but Kerwin insisted asked his driver to tell her to go up. “I knew this was one of the moments I could surprise her and pop the question”, Kerwin said.
When Diana went to his room, the proposal ring was in a giant makeup trolley case with lights pointing at the ring then Kerwin knelt on one knee and asked her hand in marriage. Diana, in surprise, had tears in her eyes and mesmerizingly said, “YES!”.
The Wedding Preparation
It was challenging for the couple prepare for their wedding day. With both of them coming from a Chinese family, hardest part was the guest list. They had around thousand guests on their wedding. While they really appreciate and are happy that everyone will celebrate the wedding with them, the preparation for the seat plans, printing of invitations and sending out invites really gave Kevin and Diana a hard time.
“We wanted to invite everyone important to us so the number of our guest list kept adding up even up to the last few days which meant we had to revise our seat plan again and again“, the couple said.
Since they had a large number of guests, they just made a very long list of entourage and it was never a problem for them.
We can’t and don’t want to choose between so many important persons in our lives that we just had to include them all. And of course, Kerwin’s mom, Ms. Naty Ang, was really a big help on this part of our wedding planning, she made sure that we won’t miss an important relatives close friends on our entourage list”, Diana explained.
Kerwin and Diana had a Russian inspired motif on their wedding day as they fell in love with grand and elegant details of the Russian castles and a restaurant during their visit in Moscow and St. Petersburg last 2012. To turn their dream wedding motif into reality, they have their partner duo supplier Ms. Zyndee Co, wedding coordinator and Mr. Larry Natividad, event stylist.
The Wedding Day
The couple’s wedding experience was a mix of all emotions. Their day started amazing, waking up with the well wishes from their family, relatives, and friends.
· Diana shares her experience during her wedding day:
My beauty team made sure I looked perfect for the wedding, and my sweet husband was really thoughtful that in spite of our busy wedding preparations (aside from work), he still managed to plan a surprise for me. Kerwin had been buying my wedding gifts secretly. While having my make up done, I was really surprised when I received a bouquet of flowers with a bag that contains a lot of things he knew would make me happy, from lipstick, dress, LV organizer, A personalized South Sea Pearl bracelet with diamond that he created and designed, and more. I knew I was marrying the best husband in the world.
The feeling of getting married, witnessed by all the important people in our lives, was unexplainable. We were happy that we’re finally getting married, sad that the daddy’s girl part of me would now be leaving daddy’s home, and blessed that we had so much support from our loved ones with this marriage.
The best part of the wedding I could say was when my husband serenaded me with a song number “Forevermore” by OPM artist Side A. This was followed by our first dance as husband and wife which ended with a sweet kiss. That moment was just so magical, like the whole world is just about the two of us.

- Sarah Williams
Who would have thought that a timid, chubby girl before will spin and sway to whatever song plays without a care in the world as she celebrates the age of her maturity and liberty? Yes, I did.
I never thought that the best day of my life has just perfectly happened as I dreamed of, not because some prince charming rescued me nor true love’s kiss saved my life but because the enchanting day has finally came for me to be no longer called a girl but a true lady that I’ve been always wanted to be. Honestly, I did not expect that it would come quick. I might have thought of being 18 with just one snap, but no, it happens only in fairytales. But my very special day is certainly not a fantasy but a blessing. Moreover, that very day, I know that things will be quite different and I am about to write my own story in a new chapter of my life.
I really don’t expect to have a grand celebration on my debut but my cousin, Ana Gonzales, made everything brilliant far more than I could imagined. She help me with the suppliers and all the stuffs just like all I need to do is wait for the day and own the night with a beauty queen’s smile. And I did, I owned the night proudly and boldly.
In my debut, I had a galaxy themed party as it symbolizes my endless aspirations and represents the assembly of brilliant people in my life. The concept also incorporates my favourite colors like blue, silver and violet. I made it that way by not having a fairytale type party or me as a princess-like because I want it to be sophisticated and mature yet dreamy. I like to express my perpetuity as I have been very fond of the stars, moon and the galaxy.
For my guests to have fun during the celebration, I had food booths, photo booth, live band and mobile bar so they can have something to enjoy not only just sit and watch the whole program. I want them to feel special as they are in me. It felt really magical seeing all the amazing people whom I loved the most, rejoicing the day I was born and the day I become on my own. I was bursting into tears when they started to share their life’s experiences with me and I was filled with love as they gave their wishes and messages for me. The night was filled with joy, cheers and love and I am indeed blessed to have this kind of celebration.
As I enter a new phase in my life, I will never forget what I had and learned. With my years of experience, I have gone through tough situations, but I have made a positive outlook to what I have run into. Whenever I hear unkind words, I take it as an opportunity to grow. With overwhelming expectations, I challenged and stretch out myself beyond prospects. Every time I stumble and fall, I choose to take stand and continue the race.
I thank God for the people who have been there throughout the years. My family has been ever compassionate and loving and my parents who have molded me into a person with respect and integrity. My very malambing cousins “bibis” who have been always supportive and my friends who loved me from moon to back.
And most of all with that is within me, I learned to always kneel down and look above with faith in the Lord who is the source of my strength. And this made me who I am now; a lady of courage, a lady of endless aspirations and a lady of infinite faith.
