He’d been given files to look over on his long flight with backround information on his new teammates, along with photos of each person. He’d read over them multiple times until he’d pretty much had everything commited to memory. He had no idea who was going to be on other side of the door to great him. He put on a friendly smile as the door opened and a brunette woman who looked to be about 5′5/5′6 stood before him. It took him only a few seconds to run through each team member’s photo in his mind until hers appeared.
He couldn’t help raising his eyebrows slightly when she knew his name. “Yeah, that’d be me. Derek Morgan. I’m with the BAU. You must be…Rosen, I believe. You’re with the DEA.”
He stepped inside and closed the door behind him before following her into the kitchen. The only thing he’d been uneasy about was living with multiple people, so he was plesantly surprised and relieved to see the kitchen was clean and realitively organized. He listened to her directions to where his room was and nodded.
“Upstairs to the left, second door. Got it,” he smiled. “As long as there aren’t any funky smells in there, I should be fine.” He flashed her a friendly smile before turning around to head upstairs to his room. The walls were a pale blue which was inviting and relaxing. There was a full sized bed, a nightstand next to it, a dressr, and a desk positioned strategically in the space. One wall had a set of sliding closet doors. He placed his bag on the bed and unclippe his sidearm from his belt, placing it in the nightstand drawer. He unbuckled his backup piece from his right leg and placed it beisde his main gun before closing the drawer.
Deciding he could unpack later, he headed back down stairs to the kitchen. “So,” he folded his arms causing his biceps to bulge out. “You it for the welcoming comittee?”
Tense wasn’t going to begin to describe Michaela around people that she didn’t know and didn’t trust – no, that was for certain. Years of trust issues made that pretty goddamn clear it was going to make it hard for her to connect with people, but it certainly meant that she was able to do undercover work spectacularly well these days. Distrust of everyone’s intent meant that she was constantly on guard and analyzing everyone’s words. The people that had been in the house with her? Well, they’d had to earn that trust and slowly peal those walls she’d built around herself down and this Derek Morgan? Well, they weren’t going to walk into having that at all.
Still, he looked like he at least knew how to move, the lithe movements as he walked into the entry and kitchen had a forcefulness and power that was hidden beneath this politeness at the fact that he was apparently acknowledging that he was a new person in already conquered territory. “Right on point,” she said, nodding her head as she crossed her legs. “I focus on explosives mostly these days, but arson is a specialty of mine. Otherwise? I’ll dive into anything the DEA throws at me. BAU though, huh? We haven’t had one of those here in quite a while – normally you guys stick to the east coast, right?”
It didn’t take long for him to head up to his room though – and Michaela let out a soft sigh at that, shifting on the counter to snag one of the oranges from the fruit bowl and peal the layers off of it to get to the center and popping one of the slices in her mouth when he came back down the stairs and had her have to bite back a groan. “I suppose so. Antonio is still out from last night, probably picked up some girl. And I think that Torie was working a drug bust the past couple weeks. Most everyone comes and goes. We float as we can and snag people when we need their help, but we’re independent. Don’t bring people to the second floor – too much identifying information up there that’ll break cover. Chore chart on the fridge. All of us snag dinner once every week or so though and normally do a bonfire and swap stories to get input. Other than that? Your assignment is yours.”
Derek gazed around the kitchen as he listened Michaela give him the lowdown on the house rules. He was taken slightly aback by the fact that they actually had a chore sheet, but he was already such a neat freak it wasn't going to be an issue. He nodded to show that he was listening and flashed her a polite smile. "Second floor is off limits to guests. Noted," He answered.
He had figured they'd been given a briefing on who he was, so he wasn't surprised when she correctly identified where he was from. "My unit is based out of Quantico, but we work cases whereever we're needed all across the country. We keep go-bags so we can hop in the jet at a moments notice. Being here is definitely a change of pace, that's for sure."
Trailing off, he walked over to the fridge and opened the door. He quickly scanned the shelves until he found what he was looking for. Before he reached inside, he glanced over his shoulder. "Anyone in the house overly possessive of their beer? Or is it cool if I have one?"
