Sometimes when I speak to someone about their homophobic views I kind of have to flip it around into a race thing. It’s hard to explain but like racism and homophobia are kind of the same thing, the only thing that changes is ethnicity and sexuality. Other than that it’s the same thing and I hate that I have to explain it in that way because straight people find it so hard to understand why we have pride and why we celebrate ourselves. Why do we have black pride month as well as gay pride ? You ever thought of the history behind it and how much people have fought for us to have some type of equality in today’s day n age ? We celebrate ourselves and the people that are like us because if we didn’t then we would probably get no respect - just like race, the LGBT community are one big family who support each other because if we didn’t then no one else would. Not to mention that we also have pride’s because of people like you that don’t comprehend how us HUMAN BEINGS are EXACTLY like YOU. (Maybe a lil less miserable)
That’s the thing as well is that a lot of people aren’t educated on LGBT history and how A LOT of fucked up shit happened to us in order for us to get our freedom. The funny thing is that we’re still not completely free - not the same way that straight people are. And if I have to flip it into race again then we’re not completely free the same way that black/Hispanic/Asian people are in comparison to white people - especially in places like America/Russia etc.
I guess life must be perfect if you’re a straight white human being. Maybe not perfect but DEFINITELY much easier. You have no worries, you walk out your house and no one is looking at you funny, you’re not overthinking about whether you’re being a target rn or not, you don’t worry about coming home beat up or maybe even ending up dead somewhere - that’s the harsh reality of being anything else other than white and straight.
