From Afar Pt.4
Pairing: Ajax x vampire!reader
Warning: none? maybe spoilers for the new season
Summary: The long awaited day that never arrived.
(is this too corny? be honest... also send requests I would love to write more also there will be a part 5)
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4
After that afternoon beneath the tree, you and Ajax had somehow grown closer than ever. Long looks turned into stolen glances across the hallways, even during class. It felt as if that one promised day had woven a thread between the two of youâsomething fragile yet undeniable.
Finally, the day of your âsoâcalledâ date at the Weathervane had arrived. The only problem? Your closet. Twenty minutes of staring at clothes left you no closer to a decision, so you turned to Yoko for help.
âJust wear what you usually wear,â she said casually, as if that solved everything.
âI tried that. Too plain. Iâm not showing up to a dateâmy first date with Ajaxâlooking like I didnât even try,â you muttered, frustration creeping into your voice.
Yoko sighed before glancing toward your pile of discarded outfits. âFine. Then wear the plum top with your dark blue jeans. Simple, but good-looking. Trust me.â
You blinked at her. âYouâre telling me I stressed over this for half an hour and that was the obvious answer?â
She only laughed at the helpless expression on your face.
Changing quickly into the outfit, you spent another thirty minutes on makeup and finishing touchesâa little shimmer here, a touch of gloss thereâuntil the clock told you time was running short. With a deep breath, you promised Yoko youâd tell her everything afterward. She blew you a smirk and called after you to âspill all the juicy details.â
The bus ride to Jericho went by in a blur, your nerves buzzing until you finally stepped into the familiar warmth of the Weathervane. You ordered your favorite refreshing drinkânever much of a coffee fanâand chose a table near the center where Ajax could easily spot you. A text was fired off just in case, letting him know exactly where you were.
At first, waiting wasnât so bad. You busied yourself by fidgeting, sipping at your drink, stealing glances at the shopâs front door. But minutes became half an hour, then forty-five, and finally... an hour. Your cup sat empty, ice melting to nothing as the hollow sting of disappointment settled in your chest.
You shouldnât have waited so long. That rational voice kept telling you to leave at the thirty-minute mark, but your heart wanted to believe in him. To believe heâd walk in, smiling sheepishly, saying heâd been held up.
But he never came.
Your throat tightened as you slid a tip beneath the empty glass and walked out. The ride back to Nevermore was quiet, and the calm way you drifted down the girlsâ dormitory hall was a mask barely holding cracks together.
When you opened your door, Yoko was already mid-question, excitement radiatingâuntil she saw your face. The words died on her lips, replaced by immediate understanding. She pulled you into her arms without hesitation, holding you as the first tear slid down your cheek.
âI thought he liked me,â you whispered, voice breaking. âWhat if I was just a replacement? Everyone knows how much he liked EnidâŚâ
Yoko drew back just enough to look into your eyes, her tone sharp but warm. âDonât even think like that. Ajax screwed up, big time. You are the bestâif he didnât show up, thatâs on him, not you.â She brushed away your tears before softening. âNow, pajamas. Movie. Letâs save the rest of the night, okay?â
You nodded, grateful, and soon the two of you were curled up with a comedy playing in the background. Halfway through, your phone buzzed again and again. Ajax.
Iâm so sorry. I didnât mean to miss it. Please let me explain.
The sight of his name made your stomach twist. Embarrassment drowned out curiosity. An entire hour you had sat there, waiting for him who never showed. With a sigh, you muted the phone, letting it fade into silence while Yoko pressed play. Eventually, your tears dried, exhaustion pulled you under, and sleep found you.
Yoko stayed awake a little longer, confusion written across her face. Sheâd seen the way Ajax looked at you, how completely he seemed taken by you. But anger bubbled, tooâwhatever his reasoning, standing you up was unforgivable.
The next day, you avoided him. Every time Ajax turned down a hallway toward you, you veered off the other way. By now, your vampire friends were fully aware of the situation and had closed ranks around you, making excuses on your behalf. âTheyâre in the library,â they said, or âSaw them walking in the forest.â Lies meant to keep him away.
And he noticed.
Ajax was unraveling. The hollow ache was all too familiarâeerily similar to how things had crumbled with Enid. Only this time, the hurt cut even deeper, because with you⌠it had felt different.
He wanted to explain, but how? How could he casually admit that he missed your date because Bianca needed him for something private involving her mother? Or that Enid had called an emergency Nightshade meeting to deal with Tylerâand he had no choice but to help? Secrets left him in a difficult position. If he revealed too much, heâd risk exposing things that he promised to keep a secret.
And so you kept slipping away, always a step ahead thanks to friends shielding you. Every failed attempt made the guilt on his shoulders heavier. Regret gnawed at him, knowing heâd left you waiting, alone.
So when he finally found time, he did the only thing he could: he sent message after message. Apologies. Desperation. Promises that he needed to explain.
He didnât even care anymore if he seemed clingy, patheticâdesperate. He just wanted one more chance, one sliver of time where youâd let him speak.
But all his messages remained on âdelivered,â never opened. Leaving him to admire from afar.
hear me out a fic of isaac in which he is not just looking for his sister but his long lost lover from his nevermore years. (maybe lover has the power to remain youthful and maybe is a prof at nevermore)

From Afar Pt.3
Pairing: Ajax x vampire!reader
Warning: nothing?
Summary: Reader and Ajax seem to be getting along quite well now.
(Take note that the ending is like weeks after the whole camping trip, so they have a established friendship.)
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3
Eventually, you managed to find the rest of your peers crowded around the camp entrance. Without even noticing, you were still holding Ajaxâs hand. If it werenât for the fact that there was a zombie on the loose, you probably wouldâve been flustered, but adrenaline made you mostly antsy.
After twenty anxious minutes, you spotted the zombieârestrained in a straightjacket, chained, with two burly staff members guiding it into a trailer. Your attention shifted to what appeared to be a body bag, the normie scout leaderâs hat perched neatly on top. Although youâd never really been a fan of normies, you couldnât help feeling a pang of sympathy for the scout boys who stood in a silent line, saluting as their leader was taken away.
Principal Dort clapped his hands sharply, voice echoing over the murmurs. âAlright, everyone! Grab your bags and head back to your tents. No more wandering about tonightâweâll be leaving first thing in the morning.â
Students shuffled, whispering and glancing over their shoulders, some still shaken from the chaos. You realized with a start that you were still clutching Ajaxâs hand. He looked down at your joined fingers, then up at you with a nervous half-smile.
You both awkwardly let go, a little embarrassed. Ajax tried to play it cool, rolling his shoulder and clearing his throat. âGuess zombie attacks count as a valid excuse to hold someoneâs hand?â
You laughed shakily, tucking your hair behind your ear. âYeah, if anyone asks, weâre just practicing good emergency preparedness.â
Yoko found you, casting an amused glance at you and Ajax before grabbing your arm. âCome on letâs get packed before Dort decides to drag us out personally.â
As you made your way back to the tents, you glanced over your shoulder once at Ajax. He was walking slowly, checking on a few classmates, but every so often his gaze flickered in your direction, shy and grateful. You found yourself smiling when you glanced and caught his gaze.
The night settled into uneasy quiet, punctuated only by the sound of zippers and hurried packing, but your thoughts lingered on warm hands and what might happen once everyone got back to Nevermore.
The following morning, you were nearly the first to board the bus, dragging yourself behind a bleary-eyed Yoko.
âI am never going on another camping trip,â you groaned, eyes half-closed.
âTold you camping wouldnât be fun,â Yoko replied, a touch too smug for someone as tired as you.
You mumbled something unintelligible and let your head rest on her shoulder, glad to finally be getting some sleep. As the bus started to fill, Ajax climbed aboard, scanning for available seats. His eyes landed on you, slumped against Yoko, and for a few moments he just watched, a little longer than he should have, before shaking himself out of it and settling onto an empty seat nearby.
He tried not to think about the fact that he was still healing from heartbreak from the night before. But seeing youâpeaceful, realâmade him wonder if his feelings for Enid were ever as big as heâd convinced himself.
When the bus pulled up at Nevermore, students practically bolted to get off, glad to escape the memory of camping with a zombie. You dug through the pile of luggage, searching for your duffle bag, sure you hadnât left it behind.
A light tap on your shoulder made you turn. Ajax stood there, holding your bag as if it were something precious.
âAre you looking for this?â
You lit up instantly. âOh yes! Thanks, Ajax!â With all the fear from last night gone, your cheeks warmed.
âYeah, no problem,â he said, shy smile flickering. âIt was hidden under mine.â
âThanks again. See you around!â Your words felt like more than goodbyeâa question, maybe even a promise. Hopeful that you would speak to him again.
âSee you, Y/N,â Ajax replied, his smile lingering as you headed off to the girlsâ dorm. He didnât realize until later how his cheeks burned or how his heart seemed to be beating just a bit too fast. He shook it off and headed for his own dorm.
Days passed, and somehow you always seemed to find yourself nearby Ajax. Whether it was the lunch line, the quad, or Nightshade meetings, he always made a point to seek you out. Sometimes it was a chat about assignments or future exams, but increasingly, it was about the most random things.
He took special notice of your taste for cherry or pomegranate juice, always popular among the vampires. So, every day, just before lunch, heâd grab a bottle for you, and hand it over as you arrivedâknowing your last class always ran long.
It became your little routine, a habit easier to keep up than to question. You told yourself he just wanted a new friend, trying to ignore how your heart skipped every time his eyes found yours across the busy hall, and how his shy smile made you feel all warm inside.
It had only been a couple of weeks since your friendship with Ajax had settled into its cozy routine, but Yoko was the first to point out the change.
âSo, I see youâre getting comfortable with a certain someone,â she teased one night, giving you a look over her book.
âWhat? No!â You protested, far too quickly.
âEveryone can see it. Heâs practically glued to you these days.â
âHe is not,â you said, trying to keep your voice level.
âYes he is. Honestly, I wouldnât be surprised if he asks you out soon.â
You felt your face heat at the thought refusing to answer.
Yoko grinned, relentless. âIâm right. Look at you blushing! Câmon, youâve basically been yearning for Ajax for, what, two years now?â
âI havenât been âyearningâ.â You made exaggerated air quotes. âIâve just been observing. Casual, normal observing.â
She raised an eyebrow. âOkay⌠thatâs somehow creepier than yearning.â
You huffed and tried to change the subject. âSo what did you get on that anatomy exam?â
Yoko caught on instantly. âFine, Iâll let you change the topic. But only because Iâm about to go on a rant about how rigged that test was.â Her tirade lasted at least thirty minutesâenough for you to sink gratefully into the background and stop thinking about Ajax.
A few months ago, you could have talked about him for hours. Now that you were actually close, it felt strange to admit it out loudâalmost forbidden, like acknowledging it might jinx whatever was blooming between you. Still, a secret part of you glowed with hope at the thought of him asking you out.
The next day, the sun was just soft enough to tempt you outside. You found a quiet spot under a sprawling oak, put in your earphones, and let yourself get lost in gentle music and doodles on the corner of your notebook. For now, it was easier to let your pencil wander than your heart.
The soft scratch of pencil on paper was suddenly interrupted by the sound of footsteps crunching on the fallen leaves. You lifted your head, just as Ajax stepped into the dappled sunlight filtering through the oak branches.
âHey,â he said quietly, a little breathless as if heâd been walking fast to catch up.
You flinched, caught completely off guard. âOh! Hi, Ajax. Iâdidnât hear you coming.â Your cheeks warmed as you hastily stuffed your notebook into your bag.
He smiled, that shy, awkward grin youâd come to adore. âI wasnât going to interrupt, if you wanted some alone time.â He shifted on his feet, looking down for a moment before meeting your eyes again. âBut I thought⌠maybe youâd want some company.â
You blinked, heart fluttering. âIâd⌠Iâd like that.â
A comfortable silence stretched between you, broken only by the distant rustle of the breeze. Ajax glanced at your notebook peeking out of your bag. âWhat were you drawing?â
You hesitated, then smiled softly. âJust some silly doodles. Helps me think.â
He nodded. âI get that. Mind if I sit?â
Before you could process it fully, he lowered himself beside you under the tree. His shoulder brushed yours ever so lightly, and the close warmth sent an unexpected thrill through you.
For a while, you both sat in comfortable silence once again, neither feeling the need to fill the quiet with words. Then Ajaxâs voice broke through, low and sincere. âIâm⌠really glad you called out to me that day of the camp trip.â His eyes lifted to meet yoursâvulnerable and honest. âI always feel better around you.â
You smiled softly, letting the noise of the campus fade into the background. His pinky traced the edge of your knuckle gently, making your heart skip a beat. Instead of pulling away, you turned your hand over to meet his palm, holding hands once more.
After a moment, he asked quietly, âWould you like to go out to the Weathervane with me?â
From Afar pt.2
Pairing: Ajax x vampire!reader
Warning: nothing I donât think?
Summary: Reader has a crush on Ajax, but has never really interacted with him. But she doesnât realize how his eyes tend to follow her at times.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3
(Iâm going to be honest Iâm trying my best to make this flow, but Iâm always like lemme add this or that and then it becomes all jumbled)
The first weeks back at Nevermore blurred into the usual rhythm â classes, late-night talks with Yoko, and sidestepping whatever drama decided to spill into the quad. Xavierâs absence stung more than you liked to admit. Youâd messaged all summer, so finding out he wouldnât be returning this year â without him even telling you.
Yoko, on the other hand, seemed more smug. Sheâd been right about Enid and Ajax â or rather, not Enid and Ajax. You never actually saw them together anymore. Instead, Ajaxâs attempts to talk to her were often met with a polite excuse and a quick exit. More and more, Enid was seen in the company of a new wolf, Bruno. And every time you caught Ajax watching them from across the courtyard, your chest tightened in secondhand embarrassment and quiet sympathy for the poor gorgon.
So when the school announced a weekend trip to Camp Jericho, you jumped at it. Fresh air, crisp nights, and moss-soft trails under your boots? Yes, please. Yoko had been harder to convince.
âI just donât see the appeal,â she said flatly.
You leaned into your best persuasive tone. âPicture it: our late-night talks, but under the open stars. Or a walk through the forest with the sound of a river in the background.â
She squinted at you.
âCome on, Yoke. Doesnât that sound at least a little nice?â
â...Fine,â she relented with a smirk. âBut only because you and a few other vampires are going.â
âYay!â you cheered, raising your fists in victory. âThis is going to be amazing.â
The morning of the trip, you sat in the quad with your bag ready, sunglasses on â more to hide your curiosity than the sun â as you waited for Yoko. Thatâs when you spotted Ajax across the lawn.
He was approaching Enid with an easy smile, offering to carry her luggage. But before his hands could reach the handle, Bruno swooped in, grabbing it with a grin. The change in Ajaxâs expression was subtle, just a quick drop of his shoulders, but you saw it.
Moments later, a teacher called Enid aside to discuss something, leaving Ajax standing there with nothing but empty hands and an air of deflation.
You hesitated for barely three seconds before pushing your nerves aside and heading toward him.
âUm⌠excuse me?â your voice came out a little shaky.
Ajax turned, brows raising slightly. âOhâyeah?â
âAre you⌠uh, in line?â you asked, gesturing toward the smoothie stand next to the buses.
His mouth quirked in a small smile. âOh. No, sorry. Go ahead.â
âThanks,â you replied, smiling like you werenât internally screaming over the fact that you were actually talking to him.
As you ordered your strawberry smoothie, you noticed heâd taken a few steps back, hands shoved loosely in his pockets like he was already slipping into thought. On impulse, you called, âHey!â
He turned again, a little surprised. âHm? Whatâs up?â
You swallowed your nerves. âI, uh⌠saw what happened earlier. And if you ever⌠I donât know, need someone to listen, Iâm around.â
His surprise softened into something warmer. âThanks. Youâre Y/N, right? Xaiverâs friend?â
You nodded. âYep. Also a vampire,â you added with a small grin, flashing the tiniest hint of your fangs in a teasing way.
That earned you a real smile, brighter than the polite one heâd given before. âCool. And⌠I might take you up on that offer.â He hesitated just a second before adding, âYou seem easy to talk to.â
You shrugged lightly, trying not to look as flustered as you felt. âGuess weâll see. Campfire therapy sessions are my specialty.â
He chuckled under his breath, and for the first time, you felt the nerves settle into something more like⌠possibility.
You both walked away feeling a bit giddy. You returned back to your bags left by a nearby tree as you noticed more vampires around it. In the group you had saw Yoko staring at you eyebrow raised. You stepped closer to her before quickly saying âshut upâ
âHey I hadnât said a thingâ she teased âbut you will definitely tell me why you were speaking to him on the busâ
You groaned while putting your face in your hands with a giant smile on your face.
The trip to Camp Jericho had started with the usual chaos â unloading bags, staking out tent spots, and claiming your place among the cluster of vampires. Yoko stuck close at your side as you both found a shaded area to pitch your tent. Across the clearing, the Addams family had already set up, their tent an elegant shade of black with silver embroidery that made you feel instantly jealous of their impeccable, spooky aesthetic.
You were still admiring it when Principal Dort gathered everyone in the middle of the camp. âNevermore will be taking over this space for the weekend,â she announced, âand so we are officially calling this⌠Camp Outcast.â
Everyone crowded in, shoulder to shoulder, and you barely had room to breathe. You were listening absently when someone jostled you forward â directly into another solid body.
âAhâsorry, sorry,â you whispered automatically, stumbling before steadying yourself. When you looked up, your gaze caught on dark brown eyes and a blue/purplish beanie.
Ajax.
âOhâno worries, Y/N,â he said warmly, giving a polite smile before turning his attention back to Dort.
Your face heated so fast it startled you â a strange sensation when you were normally cold-skinned thanks to your vampiric side. Shaking it off, you forced your eyes forward again.
A sharp whistle cut through the assembly. A man in full Boy Scout leader gear approached, speaking in overly upbeat but obviously annoyed tones to Principal Dort. Apparently, his troop had booked the same weekend. Dort countered with paperwork, only for both of them to realize the campsite owner had double-scheduled.
Wednesday, in her usual flat tone, offered, âWe should resolve this through combat.â
No one batted an eye when a team of Nevermore students stepped up to âcompeteâ in physical challenges against the Boy Scouts â Ajax among them.
You noticed Enid and Bruno moving forward too, only for Ajax to quickly say, âAh, man, sorry â this is a Nightshades-only team.â The look Wednesday leveled at him was lethal enough for him to add quickly, ââŚBut, uh, sureâyou can join.â
A giggle escaped you before you could stop it, amused by his brief moment of pettiness toward Bruno. Shouldâve stood your ground, though, you thought.
The games went on, filled with over-the-top cheers and blustering from both sides. You and Yoko stayed seated, far from the chaos, clapping softly when Nevermore eventually claimed the win.
That night, the school gathered around a massive campfire. Miss Capriâs clear voice wove through the air in harmony with Mrs. Addamsâ low, haunting tones. You and your little cluster of vampires had managed to claim an entire log for yourselves.
The flicker of flames reflected in your eyes as you swayed gently in time with the music, letting the warmth soak into your cool skin. Across the fire, your gaze drifted to Ajax. His expression wasnât directed at you â it was fixed on Enid and Bruno, who sat close together, heads tipping toward each other. There was a tightness to his jaw that pulled at something in your chest.
You looked away, unaware that moments later, Ajaxâs eyes slid from the couple to the opposite side of the fire â to you.
Slowly, the crowd dispersed. People laughed and called goodnights as they retreated to tents. Yoko lasted longer than most, chatting beside you, but eventually she stretched and announced she was retreating indoors.
âYou coming?â she asked.
âIn a bit,â you replied, gaze still on the flames. They were dwindling now, red embers breaking into soft ash. A few other students lingered in the distance, but the air felt quiet and personal. You let yourself sink into your thoughts, the wood smoke wrapping around you like a blanket.
You didnât hear the footsteps until someone sat on the log beside you.
âHeyâŚâ came a familiar voice.
You startled, hand instinctively going to your chest. Your vampire senses seemed to have entirely missed his approach â maybe youâd been too lost in the firelight.
âSorry,â Ajax said quickly, his tone genuine as his hand rested briefly, reassuringly, on your shoulder. âDidn't mean to scare you.â
âOh, no â thatâs on me,â you replied, trying not to notice the warm, tingling echo of his brief touch. âI was way too deep in thought.â
He studied you for a second before his gaze flicked away, more subdued than usual. Up close, you noticed the faint redness around his eyes and the tip of his nose. Even without a heartbeat, you felt a small ache in your chest.
âYou okay?â you asked softly.
There was a small pause. Then, with a half-smile that didnât quite reach his eyes, he said, âUm⌠can I take you up on that campfire therapy session you mentioned earlier?â
Your lips curved without thinking. âYeah. You can.â
The fire crackled softly between you, casting warm light across Ajaxâs face. You could see the way the embers reflected in his eyes, dulling the sadness there but not erasing it.
âSo,â you said lightly, âthis is the part where you tell me whatâs on your mind, and I nod sagely like some kind of⌠goth camp counselor.â
That drew out a small laugh from him â quiet, but real. âGoth camp counselor, huh? Should I be worried youâll assign me some dark, life-changing task like⌠building a coffin out of twigs?â
You shrugged. âDepends. Are you a good listener?â
He tilted his head thoughtfully. âOnly if the person talking makes it interesting.â
You gave him a look. âCareful, Gorgon. Iâve got centuriesâ worth of vampire drama in my family tree to bore you with.â
Now his smile warmed, the edges crinkling his eyes. âOkay, fine. You win. Guess I should start, huh?â
You leaned back a little, angled toward him. âWhenever youâre ready.â
Ajax was quiet for a moment, staring into the fire like he was pulling words from the flames. âItâs stupid. I just⌠thought Iâd have more time with her. Enid. Iâve liked her for so long, and when she finally said yes to being with me, it felt⌠I donât know. Like maybe I wasnât invisible anymore.â
Your chest tightened. âThat doesnât sound stupid. It sounds human. Well⌠gorgon.â
That earned a small chuckle before his shoulders dropped again. âAnd then Bruno happened. And now, every time I see them together, I feel like an idiot for thinking I mattered that much. She never even told me that we had broken up, she just moved on.â
You didnât try to fill the silence right away â just let the fire pop and hiss between you. âFor what itâs worth,â you said finally, âI donât think youâre invisible. Not at all.â
Ajax looked over at you then, and you caught the faint flicker of surprise in his eyes, like maybe those werenât words he heard often.
You smiled, softer this time. âSometimes we let people define our worth⌠but they donât and we have to realize it. And it definitely isnât your fault she left you in the dark with no explanation.â
His lips parted slightly, like he wanted to say something, but instead he exhaled slowly and gave a small nod. ââŚYouâre good at this.â
âAt what?â you asked, raising a brow.
âMaking people feel⌠okay,â he admitted, looking away again â but not before you caught the faint blush coloring his cheeks. âEven for a little bit.â
For a long moment, the two of you just sat in the glow of the fire, the cold night air settling over your shoulders. Then Ajax broke the quiet. âHey, uh⌠next time Iâm feeling down, can I⌠yâknow, find you?â
âOnly if you bring marshmallows,â you teased, bumping your shoulder against his.
It got you another quiet laugh, but one that stayed with him this time.
The fire had almost died down, leaving only the faint glow of embers as the last of Ajaxâs tension seemed to ease. He was mid-smile â the kind that reached his eyes â when the still night cracked open with a sharp, piercing scream.
Your head snapped up.
Another scream followed, closer this time, and shouts rang out across the campsite. You and Ajax exchanged a confused glance, both turning toward the direction of the noise.
âWhat theââ he started, but then you both saw it.
Something â no, someone â was staggering wildly between the tents, its clothes shredded and its eyes glazed an unnatural, sickly white. Its jerky, unnatural movements and guttural snarls made your stomach clench.
It wasnât human.
ââŚIs thatââ Ajaxâs voice caught in disbelief as the thing lurched at a group of students, who scattered in panic.
âZombie,â you finished for him, your voice low but certain. And before you could think twice, instinct flooded in faster than reason.
You reached for him without hesitation â your cold fingers curling around his warm hand â and yanked him to his feet.
âCome on!â you urged, already moving.
Ajax stumbled for half a step before keeping pace, his hand tightening around yours. âI think I should be the one protecting you,â he said, half-breathless but trying for humor.
You shot him a quick look over your shoulder. âTrust me, snake boy â tonight, you want the vampire on your team.â
That earned you a quick grin despite the chaos, but it was gone as soon as another guttural moan tore through the camp. The zombie swiveled toward the two of you, snarling.
Ajaxâs fingers flexed around yours as if silently asking if you had a plan. You swiftly moved the two of you out of the zombieâs path as it disappeared into the darkness of the forest.

Part 1 Part 2 Part 3
Growing up around outcasts meant that when you finally arrived at Nevermore Academy, nothing truly surprised youânot gorgons, not sirens, not wolves. You were strange yourself, labeled an outcast long before you ever set foot on campus.
When you first arrived, you werenât the only new face. Wednesday Addams had also joined the school that year. You got along well enoughâthough she liked to refer to you as âan acquaintance.â Your real closest friend was Yoko, a lively vampire who understood your late-night wanderings caused by insomnia.
Youâd met her one sleepless night while roaming the castle halls, nearly colliding with her as she turned a corner. From then on, the two of you bonded over your mutual nighttime energy. She thrived in the dark; you simply couldnât shut your mind off when the sun went down. One evening, in the middle of sharing snacks and sarcastic remarks, youâd confessed your crush on a certain gorgon.
You were convinced Ajax would never feel the sameâafter all, you were darker, a little strange, and often mistaken for a vampire just because you were always with them. Yoko, however, swore you had a chance. She fed your daydreams with teasing comments like, âOoo, heâs staring at you againâor âHe took the long way just to see you.â You tried not to take her words seriously⌠but sometimes you couldnât help wondering what if?
As the Raveân dance approached, you secretly hoped Ajax might ask you. Instead, you noticed his attention fixed entirely on Enid. Yoko eventually confirmed they were in a âtalkingâ phase and had agreed to go to the dance together.
You swallowed the sting and decided to go with Xavier instead. He was Ajaxâs best friend, but you already knew he wanted to go with Wednesday and would likely be dateless otherwise. To your surprise, he agreed right away.
On the night of the dance, you slid into a thrifted plum dress youâd spent hours hunting forâa small victory in itself. You werenât concerned about matching with Xavier; this wasnât a romantic date, just⌠company.
A knock came at the door just as you placed your final bobby pin. Xavier stood there, looking down at his shoes until he glanced up and smiled.
âHey,â he said.
âHi.â You twirled slightly. âYou like?â
âYes⌠very vampy.â He grinned. âBut in a cool way.â He offered his arm, and you took it.
It was strange going to the Raveân with the best friend of your crush, but Ajax had never noticed you, and Xavier was easy to be around. As you stepped into the party, you couldnât help stealing a thought for Ajax dancing somewhere with Enid. You quickly buried it when Xavier asked if you were okay.
âOh, totally,â you replied quickly. âJust thinking about how bad this dance is going to be.â
âOh, one hundred percent,â he agreed with a laugh.
What you didnât see was Ajax, standing at Enidâs side, catching sight of the mysterious girl on Xavierâs arm. He knew youâyou had hung out with Wednesday now and thenâbut he had never really looked at you like this before. He blinked, shook his head, and turned back to Enid, pretending nothing had happened.
You and Xavier settled at a table near the drinks, content to people-watch. You caught him glaring at Tyler Galpin and Wednesday.
âShe just hasnât noticed what a great guy you are,â you offered.
Xavier sighed. âI just donât think sheâs ever really seen me, no matter how much I help with her investigations.â
You smiled knowingly. âWe might be on the same doomed boat then. But you never knowâone day sheâll see it. Though I wouldnât trust Tyler if my life depended on it.â You bumped his shoulder teasingly.
That got him to smile. âWant to dance?â
As you danced with Xavier, you stopped looking for Ajax. Across the floor, Ajaxâs gaze kept flicking in your direction until he forced himself to focus on Enid.
The moment was cut short when fake blood rained down on the students, sending screams echoing across the hall. You, unbothered, glanced down at your ruined dress in mild annoyance.
âAw, man. My dress,â you sighed.
âEveryoneâs freaking out, and youâre worried about your dress?â Xavier asked, half-shocked, half-amused.
âYou search thrift stores for three hours to find the perfect vintage piece, only to wear it for an hour before itâs trashedâthen tell me you wouldnât care.â
ââŚOkay, yeah, fair,â he admitted with a laugh.
Ajax and Enid approached as you and Xavier bantered.
âYou guys okay?â Xavier asked.
âYeah, but my hair is ruined,â Enid groaned.
âYou too? I noticed earlier it looked great,â you told her sincerely. Just because she was with your crush doesnât mean you were going to be rude, you were always honest and straightforward.
Enid smiled. âThanks. Guess Iâm deep-conditioning tonight.â
Ajax said nothing, though his eyes lingered on you, blood-streaked and still beautiful.
Soon after she said goodbye you bid Xavier goodnight with a friendly hug and walked off, completely unaware that Ajaxâs gaze followed you. Xavier noticed though, and teased him all the way back to the boysâ dorm.
That night in your own room, Yoko demanded details between fits of laughter about the blood âaccessoryâ to your outfit. As she already cleaned herself up while you were still soaking in blood.
Months passed. Ajax and Enid became official. You remained friends with Xavier, even giving him advice on impressing Wednesday. You told yourself youâd moved past Ajax, though it still hurt sometimes to see them together.
By the following school year, youâd embraced a more gothic, vampiric styleâyour hair long and wavy with tiny braided surprises tucked in. Over the summer, youâd discovered vampire blood somewhere in your ancestry, which explained your nocturnal habits.
On the first day back, you spotted Ajax walking toward the girlsâ dorm, clutching a pink plushie. You rolled your eyes and pushed in your earbuds, rock music drowning out the twinge in your chest.
âY/N!â
You turned to see Yoko, grinning wide.
âNew look?â she asked, circling you.
âYep. Oh, and guess what? Iâm a vampire.â
Her jaw dropped. âYouâre joking.â
âNope.â
Hugging you again, she smirked. âI knew it. Remember how you didnât flinch when we got drenched in fake blood last year?â
You laughed. âGuess the signs were there.â
The two of you headed upstairs to unpack, the conversation light until she suddenly asked, âSo⌠you still like Ajax?â
âUm⌠no? Maybe? I donât know,â you admitted.
âHm. You never knowâthis year might be different.â
âI doubt it. I saw him earlier with that plushieâprobably for Enid.â
Yoko raised a brow. âHeard sheâs been talking to some new wolf, thoughâŚâ
âCould just be her being nice,â you said, brushing it off.
Still, you found yourself wondering what if all over again.
(I think there is gonna be a part 2 with some steam mwhehehe)

Iâll one hundred percent miss Rowan from Wednesday. Iâm still not over his death đ
Drowned Out
Pairing: Ajax x Reader
Warnings: angsty
(Also I fear the timeline may be messed up but itâs okayâŚ.)
You were a sirenâ
But not like the others at Nevermore. You kept to yourself, isolated, constantly reminded you were "different." Even among your own kind you sometimes felt like you didnât belong.
When Bianca had her heart broken by Xavier the previous year, she hadnât felt comfortable telling the other sirens about it. Surprisingly, she turned to you. Maybe it was because you knew what it was like to want to be better than the stereotypes, to fight against what others assumed.
Your quiet advice and understanding sparked a real friendship between you and Bianca. And that act of kindness didnât go unnoticedâespecially by Ajax Petropolous.
He saw you for you. Not a siren. Not a label. Just⌠you.
He never cared about the whispers that claimed sirens were manipulative. He laughed with you like it was the easiest thing in the world, joined you for late-night study sessions in the Nightshade hideout, traded whispered jokes in between classes. Bianca might have been your closest girl friend, but Ajax was your guyâyour safe place.
Until one day, your heart decided to make everything complicated.
Until one day, being around him made your pulse skip.
You never told him. You wouldnât risk something so rare.
And then there was Enid.
You were the ocean and the night. She was the forest and sunlight. Ajax was drawn to her warmth, and before you realized, you were watching him slip awayâtexts stopped, plans faded, and you learned how to smile like it didnât hurt.
He became part of Nevermoreâs golden couple. When you passed in the halls, he would still wave or say hi, but his eyes were always movingâlooking for her. You faded into the background, back into silence.
One afternoon, you sat beside the water fountain with Bianca, sketchbook balanced on your knees.
âHey,â she said, settling next to you.
You hummed in acknowledgment, not looking up from your drawing.
âYou okay?â she asked softly.
âYeah. Why wouldnât I be?â
âBecause," Bianca said gently, âyou and Ajax havenât talked since he got with Enid. I can tell itâs bothering you.â
You shrugged, forcing a neutral tone. âI just donât wanna be a third wheel.â
âOkay,â she murmured, letting it go.
You stayed quiet the rest of the afternoon, even as chatter swirled around you.
That night, you wandered the grounds in the silver moonlight, letting the breeze hit your skin, closing your eyes and pretending you were back in those days when Ajax was still yoursâif only as a friend. You could almost hear the whispers, feel the laughter. But when you opened your eyes, the world was exactly the same as before. Empty.
A year passed. You still kept to yourself, but youâd grown stronger in your own way. Bianca had taken you shopping over break, and your darker, bolder style reflected this quiet confidence.
New term, same Nevermoreâexcept for the rumors.
Whispers of Enid and a new guy, Bruno. Sightings of them together with the wolf pack. Even though you and Ajax hadnât spoken in months, you couldnât help but feel a pang for him.
Then Ajax found out. No closure. No gentle wordsâjust the truth right in his face.
And he changed. Completely. The bracelets Enid gave him were gone, his usual lightness replaced with shadows.
It was late when a knock echoed through your dorm.
Divinia your roommate was out with the sirens for the night and you knew she wouldnât be back until tomorrow. You almost didnât answer⌠but old habits die hard when itâs him.
You opened the door. Ajax stood thereâtaller than you remembered, eyes red-rimmed, hands shoved deep into his pockets.
ââŚCan I come in?â His voice was hoarse.
Every part of you wanted to shut the door, to make him feel a little of the hurt you felt last year.
But you stepped aside.
He walked in and collapsed onto your bed, face buried in his hands like he used to do before big exams, as if no time had passed between you two. You stood there for a moment, unsure, until he finally spoke.
âI messed up,â he rasped. âSheâEnidââ He stopped, shaking his head. âNever mind.â
Your throat felt tight. âI heard,â you said gently.
He laughedâbitter, low. âI was so focused on her. I⌠I lost everyone else because of it. I lost you.â
The words cut both shallow and deep.
âItâs okay,â you said automatically, the lie tasting like ash.
Ajaxâs eyes searched yours, regret swimming there. âNo, itâs not. You were always there, and I⌠Iâm sorry. I miss you. Can we go back?â
Your chest burned. A thousand wishes surged up inside youâbut the memories hit harder. Endless days of being sidelined. Feeling invisible.
You shook your head, soft but firm. âIt doesnât work like that, Ajax.â
He bit his lip, looking away. âPlease. I need you.â
You almost laughed at the ache in your chest. âThatâs all I ever wanted to hear from you,â you said, voice trembling. âJust⌠not like this. Not now.â
His expression cracked, and for a moment he looked like the boy you once knew.
âI needed you too, Ajax,â you whispered.
(Was this even good? I have no idea, I wish it was more like gut wrenching, knife to the heart, type of angst)
I need Ajax x reader angst. Like I got some ideas piling into my noggin
Persistance
Pairing: Adrian Chase x Reader, Vigilante x Reader
Warnings:none?
Summary: Vigilante tries to play it smooth, but eventually falls back into his nerdy self. While you could give less of a fuck. (you slightly give af)
It was your first week on the team. Waller didnât know you were part of the group that knocked her out during Project Starfish, so while you managed to stay with the higher-ups longer than Harcourt and Economos, she eventually found out and assigned you to Project Butterflyâsomething Harcourt described as payback.
Annoyed by the reassignment, you focused solely on the briefings with your fellow co-workers while making sure Peacemaker didnât mess anything up. Because you were so focused on the project, you ignored the eyes constantly on youâthose eyes belonging to Adrian Chase, aka Vigilante. What you did notice was how persistent he was. He found excuses to partner up, kept making terrible jokes, and even managed to sit next to you in the tiny surveillance van.
âSo, how long have you been in the field?â he asked, not looking away from his pistol. You could tell he was trying hard to be nonchalant but ultimately failed when he looked up at you with eager eyes, hoping for a crumb of personal detail.
You, however, were completely unbothered. Your reply was short and concise: âAbout six years, but Iâve been training in this field for more than ten.â
He nodded with a goofy grin, almost sparkling eyes, and said, âCool cool cool... same same, but different! Hey, maybe we can swap training secrets, or better yet, you can teach me not to mess up all the time!â
His sad attempt to charm you made you roll your eyes so far back it felt like they might get stuck.
âChase, shouldnât you be checking the camera feed?â you asked.
He threw his arms up dramatically. âOh yeah! Hey that wonât stop me from figuring you outttttt!!â he sang in a playful, sing-song voice as he turned to click random keys on the computer.
You could tell he wouldnât stop anytime soon, but youâd worked with many men like him and knew not to give in easily. You put up walls, focused on the mission, and continued making it clear that you didnât care about him.
Later, after the mission, you walked into headquarters with Chase following behind you like a lost puppy. You turned around, about to tell him to get lost, when he beat you to it: âBefore you say anything...â
He rubbed the back of his neck, grinning sheepishly. âLook, Iâm not just annoying because I like bothering you. I think youâre⌠kind of awesome. And maybe... I just wanted an excuse to hang around you without looking all creepy and stalker-ish.â
You tilted your head, unsure how to respond. You werenât ready for this, and he was definitely a dumbassâbut there was something endearing about it.
âIâm not looking for anything,â you finally said, half smiling.
He winked. âThatâs cool. No pressure. Iâm like a bad pennyâI always turn up. Whether you like it or not.â
You laughed softly, nodding. Maybe this dumbass wasnât so bad after all. Maybe this was the start of something worth trying.
(p.s. the way if this was real life I would NOT need any convincing to get with vigilante like bffr I would've folded immediately)
oh my gosh watching peacemaker and seeing vigilante had me giggling and twirling my hair istg
