【 ℜ 】🥀🐍💕 ┇the TENSION has become too much to bear it would seem. honestly it was never a question of will they or won't they? but rather a when will they? the constant playful flirting, the physical affections that teeter-tottered between platonic && romantic, the jokes about 'basically being lovers'. it was their way of trying to convey something deeper, something more vulnerable. something that they hid behind jokes, a safety precaution in case one of them didn't return those feelings, then they could say [ oh no i was just kidding ! ] it's astoria who makes the first move. rhiannon finds herself being pushed against a wall with her wrists pinned up above her head. the blonde, normally so confident and collected, is visibly blushing and flustered when her friend closes the small gap between them and KISSES her on the lips. a split-second later, she's kissing her back with equal force, equal passion. it's a kiss that's overdue. rhiannon swears that time itself stops. when the kiss ends && their lips part, she whimpers at the loss of contact and her face still has that hazy post-kiss glow.

❝ ...what does this mean? ❞ is all she can think to ask, voice soft and unsure.

Who's to say why she chose tonight to finally act on her feelings. After all, the barely restrained craving that she had for her lovely & hardworking friend had been building over the course of months. No, YEARS. Hidden behind coy smiles and flushed cheeks. When they were younger it seemed as if each girl was too often preoccupied with the constant pressure & peril that came with their lifestyle & pedigree to do something in regards to the butterflies they sired within each other. But now they're adults with much more complex needs, that much is crystal clear tonight. They're each clothed in luxurious outfits that are certainly Rhiannon approved ( after all, it was rhi that dressed astoria tonight, & the younger witch didn't miss OR mind the lingering looks cast her way as she changed in front of her close friend ), grinding on each other on the dance floor of some dimly lit muggle club, the strobe lights & smoke machines briefly silhouetting Rhiannon's delectable figure against Astoria's own scantily clad body. They know this establishment is frequented by muggles & members of the wizarding world alike. But Astoria doesn't care who sees, she dragged the gorgeous blonde to a nearby corner, barely giving her enough time to steady herself before Astoria has her pinned against the wall, her lips busy smudging that expertly painted mouth of hers. A crimson nail traces that delicious jawline of hers once she pulls away, breathless && eager to continue exploring the rest of Rhi's body with her lips. "It means," She leans in to murmur her answer in the blonde's ear, briefly kissing her exposed neck, "I want you, silly. I've wanted you for a while now. I thought I was making that pretty obvious, but I think I needed to make myself a little more clear."

She didn’t expect to run into her former professor at a pet store in Diagon Alley. Much less for him to remember & approach her, recalling the night she had brazenly defied his attempts to bring peace between her and a fellow housemate after a rift had broken out between them, all over a boy Astoria hadn't even been enamored with.

“—- I just, I can’t believe you remember that. Gods, I must have been, what? 13? 14? What a little shithead. Truly refusing to apologize for punching someone. But you know what, I still stand by my belief that they deserved what was coming to them. I’m just willing to admit I wasn’t in the right then either.”

She laughs, the black kitten in her arms hissing at her jostling of the tiny creature. Well-manicured hand rubs the beast's head soothingly before glancing back at Remus, her smile never quite reaching solemnly glacier blue eyes.

“I'm just... not quite accustomed to people bring up Colin after he... After everything that occurred. Who would have guessed physically attacking someone in his defense would have been the least of my concerns while at school.”

Her laugh is dry, though still genuine. Now, she holds on tight to those random fleshes of joy she stumbles across in her day to day.

“No.”

Her voice is barely above a whisper, yet she doesn't hesitate in her reply. Usually, she’s not fond of openly defying teachers. And this is no exception. Truth be told, she rather LIKES professor Lupin. But she truly believed she wasn’t wrong in this particular instance.

“I believe an apology would be pointless, sir. As I’m not sorry in the slightest. I would be lying if I said I was. Violence may not be the best answer, but it’s the answer I CHOSE in that unfortunately public meltdown. I don’t take too kindly to anyone repeatedly taunting close friends of mine. Honestly.... I’d do it again. That’s how unapologetic I am.”

She’s rather breathless, cheeks flushed a bright red as she shared her thought process with the professor in front of her, eyes downcast once she was done justifying her defiance.

Asked " how could you say that?! "

To say they’re tired is an understatement. Astoria’s fifth-year herbology assignment will be the death of her if Theo’s naiveness didn’t kill her first. She loved her friend dearly, but it would be a lie to say she hadn’t grown weary of Theo’s quickness to dismiss tough conversations by insisting that they were safe from any serious consequences. That their privilege was enough protection. It was an act Astoria had grown absolutely weary of.

“Our luck is going to run out & that’s going to bite us in the ass. It’s merely a question of when. Our parent’s decisions may prolong our luck, but ultimately it’s their rotten choices that will be our downfall. We’re not above it all & I’m so sick of your pretending.”

Dear Merlin let it be the end of the confrontation. Astoria was far too tired & frustrated to filter her emotions & her thoughts. Instead, they muddle together after Theo responds, enraging her like never before. She sits from her curled-up position in the largest armchair in their common room, her quill & parchment paper tumbling out of her lap. The mess is momentarily forgotten as she snapped at her dear friend.

“—- Because it’s bloody true & you know it, Theo! My father lacks a moral compass, he didn’t hesitate to capitalize off of it during the war & he’ll do it again now that the Dark Lord is back. Only now your father is part of it too. Why do you think they’ve been locking themselves in his study again & again for hours at a time? Just like the rest of his bloody death eater clientele! They’ve got each other’s back & it’s merely for personal gain. They’d sell each other out in a heartbeat if it meant they’d save their own skin & you’re DELUSIONAL if you want to deny it!”

At this point, she doesn’t care who heard. She’s tired of keeping secrets that aren’t her own. Astoria stands, haphazardly collecting her materials before she drops them all on the coffee table between them.

“I’ll deal with my things when I can think straight. I just- I need to go. I can’t keep tiptoeing around everyone in my entire life that matters to me.”

·“The looks I can handle easily. The ego on the other hand,” Pansy hummed, head tilting to the side. “That might be the last straw, Tori.”·

There’s an unspoken TRUCE amongst them. Being Daphne’s younger sister meant she was off limits in terms of the taunts & teasing Pansy could easily hurl your way if she so desired. However, being one of Daphne’s closest friends guaranteed her immunity from Astoria’s scathing comments if she didn’t particularly like you.·Thought Astoria couldn’t really decipher if she liked Pansy or not. She could, however, admit her fascination with the older Slytherin. There was something about the bite in Pansy’s words and demeanor Astoria enjoyed. Admired, even.·

She raised her chin, a laugh tumbling past full lips. Slender shoulders shrug heedlessly,·“The ego’s mainly mine, I’ll admit. But a good portion of it I learned from the best.” She grinned up at her fellow classmate, eyebrows wagging playfully.
