✘ Stacey Barnes has always been a bit of a tomboy, most of her friends growing up were guys, and her father raised her all by himself. Not that this prevented her from wearing nice things and having a love of the colour purple.. she just understood men more than she did women, and she preferred to be out rough housing with the best of them, playing football, and whatever else her mates got up to. She still didn’t have much of an interest in things like make-up and gossiping about boys when she moved up to high school, which only made the other girls call her things like ‘freak’, and ‘lesbian’. The fact she never really had a boyfriend until college didn’t help either, but she didn’t really care. Everything they said, she simply shrugged off and forgot. Her father always taught her that it didn’t matter what other people thought, it was what you thought that mattered. And Stacey didn’t think there was anything wrong with her at all.
Her father was a private investigator and, though he couldn’t tell her specifics from the cases he worked, he did tell her a few details here and there, and Stacey found it all very mysterious and knew she wanted to be like him when she grew up. Though, she wasn’t sure where to start, but her father soon steered her in the direction of policing. She worked extremely hard in University, studying courses like psychology, law, criminal science, and many languages. Finally though, all of that hard work and dedication paid off. Despite the fact that a lot of her friends had gotten bored of waiting for her to stop studying and hang out, she was happy, and graduated. From there, she was quickly accepted into the NYPD and has been a valuable asset ever since.
But not everyone sees it that way.
Unlike when she was in school, the guys here aren’t very welcoming. They seem to be stuck in old-fashioned ways of thinking and see her as more of a nuisance, someone who can’t hold her own, than an asset to the force. She knows that she’s good enough, why would she be here otherwise? Of course, there are a few exceptions to the rule and she does have a few allies, but a lot of the officers really resent her being here. Especially Daryl Knight… but Stacey wouldn’t have trusted him even if he did like her. From the moment he arrived she could tell there was something off with him.
Since Stacey joined the force it seems as though crime in the city has skyrocketed. She’s been involved in the murder of a stripper (the suspected murderer is still on the run, and the case is ongoing), several drug busts, the body of a man who’s been missing showing up in a river… and that’s just to name a few! Things are definitely hectic, but at least they’re not boring. There’s always some newcomer who thinks they can get away with murder - literally - and Stacey stands for none of it. Despite the reaction she’s had from most of the force, she’s still going strong, and she’s determined to focus on the really important thing - putting criminals behind bars where they belong.
