One Chance

One man can only have so much fulfillment in his life. One who may think he is happy could really just be fooling himself. Stan thought he was happy with his job, beating up the bad guys and having a beautiful lady on his arm. One morning he woke up and noticed that he wasn't happy, that he wasn't fulfilled in his life. Some doors are meant to be closed.

"Derrick."

He did not look over at Stan, minding his own business as well at the introduction. He took his time lighting his cigarette. He did not offer the man one. Strangers never got to smoke with Derrick unless they asked.

Glancing over at the cigarette lighting up, he couldn't help but chuckle. Stan had his own views on smoking, ones he didn't voice, but with that being said he always laughed at someone smoking. Some would call it a stress reliever but he would call them pathetic.

Derrick was never one for striking up a conversation with anyone, much less fresh meatbags that were talking to themselves on the street. If the new snitch in the gang wanted to hear himself talk, well, Sligo considered that his own business. Though he could not help but let out a small ‘heh’ at the sight as he leaned back on the public bench. People in this town were nuts. Not enough space or fresh air.

He noticed the man small laugh but didn't cause any notion to make small talk with him. Instead he sat next to the man, pulling out a small notebook he kept in his pocket. Stan gave a friendly nod to the man next to him. He jotted down a few notes from the surroundings around him. "Stan."

Stan walked along the sidewalk, taking in notice on how different the town looked since he last saw it. He had been gone for a while with other trips around the northern states. To him, much had change and it wasn't just the decorations, the people seemed different as well. "Huh, looks like I missed a few pieces."
