“You must excuse me, I am not used to being around --- people. “
Shreck’s turning was incomplete or botched somehow, which is the reason he continued to age after his death, the reason he can’t turn other vampires, and the main source of his crippling loneliness.
He not only lacks the ability to connect to other people, but also other vampires. They see him as pathetic and broken due to his defects and are reluctant to have anything to do with him.
Max Shreck is not a particularly talkative creature- going centuries without speaking to any living soul has made him more used to thinking things rather than saying them out loud.
So, when he is addressed by a stranger, his response is to merely stare at them. His eyes do not blink, and he remains stock-still with his spidery arms folded across his chest like a praying mantis.
“What”
It’s a fitting punishment for a monster. To want something so much—to hold it in your arms—and know beyond a doubt you will never deserve it.

F.W. Murnau: How dare you? How dare you destroy my photographer? You idiot!
Max Schreck: Did I kill... some of your people, Murnau? I can't remember.
F.W. Murnau: We have an arrangement!
Max Schreck: Don't pretend you mourn, Herr Doctor. I know you.
F.W. Murnau: Why him, you monster? Why not the... script girl?
Max Schreck: [chuckles] The script girl... I'll eat her later.
I’ve been hoarding this blog for 9000 years but I have no icons.

It will cost you sweat and tears, and perhaps… a little blood.
