This sad community.

This community is often pathetic. If it’s not one thing ripping it apart it’s another. Each of you reblogging a “If you hate Trump unfollow me” message should be ashamed of yourselves. You lack respect for the opinions and beliefs of others. You refuse to understand where other people are coming from. If it’s not your way then it’s the high way. Nobody is obligated to bow down to you and kiss your but. Nobody has to be your carbon copy to have fun with you or enjoy your content. You all act like immature teenagers but half of you are not. That’s an indictment on you. Grow up. People were created differently. We stand for different things. Yea Trump might suck as a person but if his policy was what voter agreed with, good for them. At least they did vote. At least they were able to vote.

I don’t care who you voted for, come follow me.

In principle, I agree with this. 

I can understand why people are shaken and upset by Trump’s victory.  I’m not even American and I’m shaken and upset by it.  His victory is going to have an impact on the entire world, not just on the United States and not just on a select group of people (i.e. LGBT, Black, Hispanic or Muslim) in the United States.  Trump’s presidency isn’t going to be good for anyone, except perhaps Trump himself. 

On the other hand, I also understand Trump’s appeal to a certain cadre of voters.  As a heterosexual, cisgender white person (even though I have a physical disability and I’m a woman), it gets tiring to be labelled by innumerable liberals and social justice warriors as the logical object of hatred and the source of all problems currently existing in modern culture and society.  That, in itself, is a form of ostracism.  the number of times I’ve seen people post statements like, “I hate all straight scum” or “Down with cis” or “White people deserve to be hated” is distressing.  Yes, we are the ‘majority’ but hating us and using our sexuality, gender or race as an excuse to behave badly toward us is no more correct than the discrimination and social marginalization that, historically, has been committed against sexually or racially diverse groups.  People posting and reblogging “I hate Trump / Trump Supporters” and “Unfollow me if you support Trump” are perpetuating this very act of countering hatred with hatred.  That is, in fact, a very Trump-like thing to do, and it’s not going to solve anything.

Do I agree with Trump?  ABSOLUTELY NOT.   If I were American, I would not have supported him or voted for him.  I think his views on women, visible minorities and LGBTQ people are abhorrent and disgusting.  I think his plans to abolish Obamacare, NAFTA and a handful of other beneficial programs and policies is selfish, stupid and utterly inconsiderate of the people of his country - both those who voted for him and those who didn’t.

All of that having been said, nobody has any idea who any of their followers voted for and, more importantly, nobody has any control over how someone else chooses to exercise their democratic rights.  How someone votes has little to no correlation with whether or not they enjoy a game, a story, or someone’s creative work of art.  A Trump supporter can like your blog just as much as a Clinton supporter or a disgruntled Sanders supporter or (gods forbid!) a Canadian with her own opinions on US politics.    Saying “Unfollow me if you support Trump” is just as bad as saying “Unfollow me if you’re white” or “Unfollow me if you’re straight” or “Unfollow me if you’re a Canadian with an opinion”.  I hope none of you would do that.

Yes, I understand that a lot of people are shocked, angry and scared today.  They have every right to be.  But, let’s not allow anger and fear to spill over into a community that’s supposed to provide an escape from all that.  People’s political opinions should not be the criteria on which we permit entry into this community.  We’re all meant to have fun here, and when we start trying to place conditions on who can or cannot look at our content, we’re becoming part of the problem, not part of the solution.

So, bottom line?  Don’t worry about how somebody else voted in the US election.  If you voted the way your conscience told you to, be content with your own choice.  Let other people worry about their own choices - unconscionable or otherwise.  Let’s just enjoy the stories and the content without trying to Thought Police each other.

The Sims 4: City Living Is "the Most Difficult" Sims World Maxis Has Ever Built

The Sims 4 City Living takes the core game in a lot of new directions, and building this new world was Maxis' biggest Sims challenge yet.

This is actually a very interesting review/interview featuring some quotes from Grant Rodiek.  Make of it what you will.  I’m still not convinced I want to spend $40 on something that, in essence, looks like just a slightly larger Game Pack.

I’m still alive!

I’ve been MIA for a while, I know, and I owe a bunch of replies and answers to asks.  I’m really sorry I haven’t gotten to any of that stuff.  I’m not sure when I’m going to be able to.

In case anybody is wondering what’s been going on, there’s more under the cut.

As some of you know, I was exhibiting at a doll show on 22 October, so I’d been spending the week leading up to that getting ready for the show.  I was having some issues at work prior to that and wasn’t doing great mental health wise, and nearly walked out of my job the week before.  (Yes, I still have my job).

I did attend the show, and it went okay.  That same weekend, my two and a half year old nephew was hospitalized with a lung issue and, needless to say, the Sims and Tumblr was the farthest thing from my mind until it was clear he was out of danger.  He’s doing better now, thankfully.

Then, toward the end of that week and also during this past week, I was sick.  In fact, I was ill enough for my doctor to write me off work for 3.5 days. I honestly haven’t felt (physically or mentally) like getting online or playing Sims.  I’m sure I’ll get back to it eventually, but this last 3-4 weeks hasn’t been fun, and at this point, the effort involved in playing to write a story seems like way too much work. 

So sorry, you guys...

If I’m reading this right, we can’t place elevators on lots we build.  So, we can’t do much building in San Myshuno, we can’t build apartments anywhere and we can’t place elevators on our own lots in the worlds.  Oh well.

Doing a little late-night composing?

Aubrey: It’s not that late.  I realized I hadn’t practiced today, though, so I thought I’d sit down and play for a bit.  My piano is a dear companion.  It always helps me feel calm after a busy day.

Zach: *whispering*  You taste like poetry.

Aubrey: I love you.  I love us together, and I love the family we’ve raised together.

Zach: I love you too, and I love our family.  Sometimes, it might not look like I do, but–

Aubrey: I know you love our family.  I just want you to know, I understand why you were worried about Autumn coming to stay, and I’m sorry if I caused a scene when we first discussed it.  I realize you were trying to think of what would be best for everyone.

Zach: I’m glad you understand.  I was worried you’d be mad at me.

Aubrey: At first I was, a little, but I can never stay cross with you.  Besides, I think you may have been right.

Zach: I was?  About what?

Aubrey: A point may come when you’ll have to ask Autumn to leave. I think we’ll be all right for the time being, but I’m afraid she’s got more going on than just disappointment over this television bachelor business.  I’ll do the best I can to help her get sorted, but if she’s going to keep behaving like she did today…

Zach: Just let me know when you’ve had enough, okay?

Aubrey: I’m still hoping it won’t come to that.

Zach: But, if it does–

Aubrey: I promise I’ll tell you.

Zach: That’s all I’m asking but, honestly, I hope it won’t come to that point, either.

Aubrey: Then, let’s try to be optimistic, shall we?

Zach: You’re much better at that than me.  You’ll have to help me.  Remind me to think positive and all that.

Aubrey: *smiling*  Of course I will.

Zach: Can we cuddle, at least?

Aubrey: I’d like that.

Zach: It’s been an eventful day, hasn’t it?

Aubrey: Yes, and I think this is a nice way to end an eventful day.  I think I’ll sleep exceptionally well after this.

Zach: Me too, but I always sleep well when I’m next to you.

Aubrey: You say the sweetest things.

Zach: Maybe I was inspired by Stardust and Solai.  Can you believe they want to get married?

Aubrey: They haven’t been seeing each other all that long.  I wonder if we shouldn’t have advised them to wait a bit.

Zach: I think they’ll be okay. Sometimes you just know when something’s right.  I mean, look at us. We weren’t together very long either before I asked you to marry me, and we’ve made it this far.  

Aubrey: In hindsight, I think I knew we were right the day we met.  It was a bit like a fairy tale in my head, really.  Being rescued by a handsome prince and all.

Zach: Have I mentioned lately how adorable you are?

Zach: Are you sure you don’t want to get frisky?

Aubrey: It’s not a matter of want.  Don’t you think we should employ at least a little self-control?

Zach: I guess.  But...

Aubrey: But what?

Zach: We’re not going to have a total ban on woohoo the whole time the kid’s here, are we?

Aubrey: *laughing* Let’s not get carried away, darling. Even I don’t have that much self-control.

Aubrey: That feels wonderful.  Don’t stop yet.

Zach: You want to hop in the shower with me?  I can think of other parts of you to massage.

Aubrey: Aren’t you tired at all?

Zach: Not too tired to play around a little.

Aubrey: Well, I’m tired.  I think I’d enjoy a soak in the hot tub.

Zach: Can we get naked?

Aubrey: Only if you want to run the risk of Autumn seeing you in your birthday suit.

Zach: Goodbye, fun times.  Hello, boomerang parenthood.

Aubrey: *laughing*  And you say I’m melodramatic.

Stardust:  Bye Daddy! Bye Papa! 

Zach: Aren’t you going to say goodbye to your sister?

Stardust: Oh yeah. *waving* Bye-bye human!

Stardust: Well, we’re off.  Papa, I’ll call you sometime next week and we can go have lunch somewhere and talk medical school, okay?

Zach: Okay. Sounds good.

Aubrey:  Stardust, when you go home, you tell your brother not to be a stranger.  We haven’t seen him and Zida and Nash for far too long.

Stardust: Isn’t Nash coming to stay with you when Zida and Sky go on their exciting vacation to San Myshuno?

Aubrey: Yes, but that won’t be for another few weeks.  We’d like to see them before then.  Tell them that if they don’t want to come see us, we’ll certainly invite ourselves over to see them.

Stardust: Okay.  Will do. 

Zach: And tell Nash we have a water slide.

Stardust: *laughing*  If you promise we can play on it, I’ll bring Nash over here for a visit myself.

Zach: It’s a deal.
