Mira leaned against a wall in the astronomy tower, massaging her temples. She sighed, replaying the events from the night before in her head and slid to the floor, resting her head on her knees. “Go. Away.” She mumbled as she heard approaching footsteps.

John had actually remembered to bring one of his telescopes with him for once. He was currently making his way up the astronomy tower when he saw a student sitting on the ground. Part of him wanted to keep walking, but he knew that he probably shouldn’t. So, he put his telescope down gently and kneeled down next to her. “Well I would, but I’m concerned about your well being. So I’m staying for now.”

Genevieve stood in the window of the library, smiling out at the view over the grounds and a glass of wine in hand. She could see the chaos of the bonfire and the stumbling of drunk students - fortunately stumbling not too close to the fire itself. She could remember being one of those students herself, not too long ago, She heard the door of the library open and she turned, ready to tell whatever drunk and meandering student it was that the library was closed. Instead, she saw John standing in the doorway. She smiled at him. “What has you up here, joining me?”

John had finally escaped from the mess of students. They seemed to be everywhere. Sure there was a bonfire, but why had so many of them stayed? Didn’t any of them like their families anymore. He didn’t understand it, and he didn’t really want to. So, he went to the only place that would probably be quiet. He wondered if anyone would actually be in there, and his question was quickly answered. Almost as soon as he entered he spotted Genevieve. “I’m running away from the students.” He laughed, walking over to her.

As the night continued Vivian grew more tipsy, obviously under the influence of too much spiked punch. But all the couples kissing everywhere frustrated her, and the redhead felt again like she would never be good enough to be anyone’s girlfriend. But she’d wanted a New Year’s kiss at least for once. “Oh screw it,” the girl muttered, grabbing the first closer person to press their lips together quickly.

John was supposed to be supervising everything. But that was a lost cause. However, when the student kissed him, he pushed her away as quickly as he could. What was with students kissing him during holidays? “Next year, I’m going home.” He sighed to himself.

“You and me both. I’ve been dodging it for days.”

“I’ve already been caught under it once, and that was disastrous.” He said shaking his head at the memory. “I don’t plan on it happening again.”

Madysyn chuckled as she stepped back. “Seems like I am developing a trend.”

“This is a bad trend. You probably should watch who you kiss before you do it.” He shook his head. “It doesn’t matter if there’s mistletoe or not, you shouldn’t kiss teachers.”

“They’re just stars?” Flynn shook his head. “Yeah they sparkle and they look pretty cool if you’re trying to impress a girl on a night walk, but hey what else can they do?”

“Have you ever paid attention during astronomy class?”

“Is that… mistletoe?”

He immediately moves away from it. “Possibly, but I am not going to be found under it.”

“Mhm  well look who fell under the mistletoe.”

He pulls away from her after a second. “What do you think you’re doing?”

She laughed and raised her eyebrows. “Did you make any plans with her? There may be hope yet.”

He just shrugged. “I usually just go with the flow. Maybe I’ll have a bit more luck in the new year.”

“I have read enough of the science but truly I think I love them best when I’m just watching them. Its the one time I think that the books cannot compare,” she smiled and leaned back against the wall of the astronomy tower. “I can usually find the ursas. Maybe Andromeda? And you?”

“Books come a close second to the stars.” He said, leaning back and looking up at the sky. “Usually I find Ursa Major first, but if you give me enough time I could find any one that you could name.”

“So? What are your plans for the break? Other than staying at Hogwarts, obviously.”

He just shrugged nonchalantly “Well I hope that I may get to spend the holiday with a certain someone, but it appears she may have gone home.”

“But professor!” Sophie whined quietly. “Please…. it is only three more days until Christmas! Please have mercy with me!”

Alright, but only because this if my favorite holiday.

Genevieve smiled, looking up at the sky. “They are. I’m afraid the only things I know of stars are books and first year astronomy class. Though nights like tonight make me wish I paid more attention.”

“Yes, it’s a shame that most people don’t appreciate them as much as I do. But that’s alright.” He shrugged. “Do you know any constellations?”

“Yeah… except they’re no different to any of the stars we have other night.”

“Oh but you see, last night I wasn’t able to quite appreciate them quite as much as I can tonight because it was so cloudy.  That is what makes them special.”

Oh wow, the stars really are beautiful tonight!

[shrugs] Fine, then I guess you’re just going to fail.

“I believe that all we have to do is make sure that the kids don’t kill each other. Shouldn’t be to hard.”

“As much as I do hate to disagree with you, John, do you really think that will be an easy task?”

“Well it will be if you leave it to the more responsible people.” He shrugged. “That’s what I plan to do.”
