Society Steering Away from Dependence
Back then, the "social norm" between a male and female was dependence. This dependence implies that females rely on males to protect them and handle situations that are not theirs to handle. We call this situation 'White Knighting'. Today's "social norm" is all about equality and female empowerment. Needing protection from a male to "help" a female defeats the purpose of empowerment. Female society today is steering towards independence. Although this topic is expected today, it has been controversial for many years. Belittling the strength of females' power to protect themselves is the ultimate punch to the gut for feminists. An exciting moment was when Wonder Woman was created in 1941. She was the epitome of women's empowerment and rights. World War II had an influence when it came to Wonder Woman. Men were drafted into the war, leaving the females to work in society while the men were gone fighting. We all know that Wonder Woman screams independence and strength. As years pass by from the tough times of war, the fight for women's rights and equality goes on.
