downloading a fic when ao3 dies (when you have the link)
looks like ao3 is down again and i was in the middle of a multi chapter fic when it died on me.
and if that happens to you, this is what you can do to download the fic:
copy paste https://download.archiveofourown.org/downloads/00000000/fic.html in your browser url
replace the pink bit with the number right after /works (that's the work id)
for instance, in https://archiveofourown.org/works/44970790/chapters/113154673 the highlighted bit (44970790) would be the number you swap for the 0s
the download link will look like https://download.archiveofourown.org/downloads/44970790/fic.html
if you want the fic to be downloaded as an epub instead, use .epub at the end of that link
it should start downloading on your device

actually the craziest impact animorphs has had on me is that i never really got an urge to eat cinnamon buns from reading them BUT the phrase "the refreshing beverage known as vinegar" has forced its way into my head every other week for years to try and convince me it would be a good idea to chug a whole glass of it

Vinegar is what we used to use as the acid in our sodas before we switched to Carbonated Water in the 19th century, and vinegar-based sodas trace their roots all the way back to the Bronze Age Meditteranean! The Romans called it Posca! The Ottomans adopted it from the Romans and called it Sharab, which means "Drink", and then American colonists acquired the recipe from the Ottomans in the 17th century and changed the name to Shrub!
There's a famous example of Posca that most people misremember because we don't drink Vinegar much anymore. If you're familiar with the Crucifixion of Jesus in the Bible, you probably remember the bit about the Roman soldier offering Jesus a sponge full of vinegar to drink. Most people think the Roman dude was mocking Jesus, but that's wrong. That was a sponge full of Posca. The Roman dude was like "Well this sucks. Want a Sprite?"
...Fun fact, I know this because the phrase "Refreshing Beverage known as Vinegar" got stuck in my head one night at work, and I started googling "Does anybody drink vinegar". I had to know. It turns out the answer is yes! And you can still find vinegar-based soft drinks today! Switchel is a vinegar-and-ginger drink you can find at some bars in the US, and it goes back to pre-carbonated soft drinks.
Also, I know several people who drink pickle juice regularly, and white vinegar is a key component of pickle juice! So that's also where vinegar as a drink can pop up in your day to day life.
There's also a trendy New Age beverage called fire cider that's literally just vinegar, cinnamon, spice, and pretensions. RIP Ax, you would've loved the fire cider craze.

oh yes -- before I had surgery to fix the problem I used to get terrible headaches when my sinus passages would get inflamed and swell shut. Often the inflammation was from dehydration, and when it was I could drink posca and get some relief, since it rehydrates faster than plain water and takes the swelling down.
My recipe was a shot glass's worth of vinegar, a spoonful of sugar, and a pinch of salt, then top off with 16-20 oz of water. Tastes kind of lemony, very nice.
Okay, so, in the summertime when it's awful, I drink a ye olde something called switchel: it's water, plus vinegar, maple syrup, and ginger. It's the thirst destroyer and the stomach soother, straight from ca. 18th century New England: - 2.3L water - 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar - 1 tablespoon ground ginger - 1 cup maple syrup (or molasses, with the caveat that it'll taste RICH) Mix it all up in a big jug or pot (I use a blender and a wooden spoon) and add a spritz of lemon juice and/or rum based on your preferences.

dark mode definitely is a real thing on AO3! this is how i did it on my phone (im going to assume itโs the same for both apple and android)
1. Log into your AO3 account and go to โMy Dashboardโ
2. Click on โSkinsโ
3. Click on โPublic Site Skinsโ
4. Scroll through the available skins - For dark more click the โUseโ button under the Reversi skin
5. Enjoy reading without destroying your eyes!

met a guy from saudi arabia last night at a bar, he came here with his sister so she could have surgery. he told me โi love your country for healing my sister. there are many wonderful things here, but thereโs one thing you do not have. mercyโ and then he asked if that was a boston thing or an overall american quality
he also waffled for like five minutes saying he wanted to tell me something but i had to promise to not be offended, and i was looking pretty fruity and i was like โdang i might be about to get slurred but this man seems niceโ and agreed, and he was like โin america, dogs are treated better than the homeless.โ unfortunately 100% correct and very sobering
To anyone wondering if it's worth it to tear down fascist posters or whatever. I spent a few months last year engaged in silent battle with another student at my school who was putting anti trans stickers up everywhere. I had it down to a system where every night I would walk the five block radius they went up in, and tear down all the ones I could reach, and use a stick to put duct tape over the others. Like, within hours of the stickers going up, I would have already purged the whole zone. I knew the basic schedule of whoever put them up based on when and where the stickers appeared. I probably could have found them in person if I'd wanted to. And I told all my classmates and friends what the stickers looked like and got them to rip them down too. And after a few months of this, the stickers slowed, and then stopped forever.
My point is, a lot of this fashy or right wing stuff is one local weirdo. And if you pay attention, and do a little light organizing with your friends, you can basically make their efforts into a giant sisyphisean exercise in misery. You control your streets!
Remember: It costs money to keep printing those stickers, but ripping them down is free.
yโall i cannot emphasize enough that these horrible people are a very small minority. there are not that many of them. they are making a lot of noise to make it seem like there are more of them.
