The High Bridge is part of the Old Croton Aqueduct, the brick water tunnel that brought New York City its earliest supply of clean water. The bridge is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a New York City landmark. The bridge connecting Manhattan to the Bronx opened in 1848, was renovated in 1928 has been closed since the 1970s. Plans are in place to re-open the bridge later this year!

"Poor little devils, they had such a hard time". Such was Charles R. Knight's comment on this painting, which depicts a Neanderthal family in the grip of a European Ice Age blizzard.
