“Is uh, Holden a friend of yours?” Bailey inquired, picking up on the name, wondering if maybe it could be the same Holden she was friends with. After all, how many people had that name? Holden was a lovely guy, and any one of Bailey’s friends she’d gladly gush on about for hours. She was blushing now, putting her hands to her heated up cheeks in pure joy. “Really? I- gosh, you’re so sweet! Thank you. I… Was a bit nervous, but that makes me feel a lot better.” Bailey said honestly, still grinning now, glad to see she had an effect on one student at least. That was the important thing.
“If um… You ever have any questions, here- my number…” Bailey was already reaching into her bag, pulling out a pen with some trouble, before scribbling her number out on a napkin, handing it over to Grace. She liked the girl. She was soft, sweet. Kind. The sort of person who Bailey wanted to take care of, weirdly enough. “Feel free to call or text. Any day, any time.” Bailey genuinely said.
As she recognised the girl’s shift, as something she had within herself as well, Bailey was nodding along approvingly, still smiling. “Then i think it’s for you. Plus, you have a good smile, and a nice personality, and those things are really important for pre-med, and working with patients especially.”
It took Grace a moment to realize that the girl in front of her was serious, that the question she was asking was rooted in a true sense of curiosity. Had Bailey not noticed that they have the same last name? She thought back a moment or two, suddenly remembering that she hadn’t given the girl her last name, and couldn’t help the laugh that escaped her lips.
“N-no, no, I’m–I mean, yes, but…” she laughed again before continuing. “He’s my brother, actually, so…a friend by circumstance, perhaps? Sorry, I guess I’m not used to people not knowing; it seems like everyone knows everything about everyone else here…” Grace watched, letting her voice trail off and her eyebrows furrow, as the other grabbed a napkin and began scribbling something down on it. When Bailey held it in her direction, Grace took it, slowly, the smile on her face only growing when she realized what was written on it. “W-wow, thanks. I’ll…I’ll take you up on that. I promise.”
The smile was reinforced, again, when the older girl began to shower her in compliments. “Thank you. Seriously, t-thank you. That means more than you know.” she trailed off for a moment and looked around the room at everyone else schmoozing, before turning back toward Bailey. “So, uhm, w-what…what kind of medicine are you studying, exactly, if you don’t mind me asking?”
