If you’ve ever lost a loved one to cancer, please listen to this record. Even if you don’t like this kind of music, I encourage you to read the lyrics. Having lost my dear aunt to cancer, and finally realizing a few years later the effect it’s had on me, hearing this album for the first time was overwhelming. It still is, but I listen frequently. It brings back a lot of feelings, good and bad. But these songs have honestly helped me put some pieces together with how I’m dealing with loss that I’ve experienced. Something from it makes sense to me. I think it’s knowing others go through these things too, and fight to make it through. Music is powerful. Music has given me the best experiences of my life. Music has gotten me through things in ways nothing else could. Because the words are real. Real life. Jeremy, thank you for your records, but especially for making this one. The very first time I ever went anywhere for a show outside of Minnesota was July of 1999. Destination: Des Moines, Iowa. A band I was working with was showcasing for industry, and things were getting quite real, so I was excited to make the trip. I was told well in advance that this young band opening the show was definitely worth checking out. A band called Drip took the stage and it was clear why the frontman was nicknamed "Screamin' J". I met Jay, Nick, and the guys then focused on other things the rest of the night. We stayed in touch and I was periodically sent new music and updated on what was going on with the band evolving into something new. New band, new EP. Feathers Are Beautiful "The Silence Ends Here And Now". This EP floored me. It was the perfect blend of Zao, Deftones, and Will Haven influences. The live show was intense, an Jay was commanding with his voice and presence. Many of us still listen to this EP frequently, and talk about what this band was to us back then. Last night I got to see Jay for the first time in well over 10 years, probably much longer. I got to see the band play for the first time in as long. Last night was incredible. Real friends, real music, real life. This is what sticks with me. (at Des Moines, Iowa)
