here’s the thing about the antisemitic viddy game.
I do not care if you, personally, play hogwarts legacy. Do whatever you want, man. I’m not advocating that the game should be banned, or whatever.
I *am* a trans Jew who recognizes the insidious, Nazi-propaganda levels of antisemitism within the game. So I’m going to point it out, and discuss it, and call for awareness of it. I want to create a little friction in our collective perception of this type of coding; I’m not willing to let it go unchallenged, because our history is fraught with reminders that this kind of “benign” caricature is a dangerous indicator of violent cultural forces.
If you hear me explain all of this, and then feel like you can’t enjoy playing the game anymore… well, that is what it is, no? But then if you get mad at me for ruining your fun, because you still want to play the game but you feel “guilted” by my analysis… then that’s a you problem.
You decide whether or not to play the game. Nobody is going to stop you from playing the game. But I’m not going to stop analyzing it, either, and I’m not going to stop trying to explain antisemitic coding and blood libel.
Your problem isn’t that evil mean jews and transgenders are trying to “cancel” hogwarts legacy or restrict your free speech. Your problem is that we’re allowed to respond. Hard to maintain the moral high ground when you’re relying on ignorance to fuel your rhetoric
