“-- Nope, sorry. Being dead and all, food only tastes like something when I quote-unquote ‘completely destroy it and all that is holy’ by dousing it in hot sauce. I guess I could point you towards some spicy places, though?”

“-- What do you do?”
Loki paused, simply staring mischievously at the other before speaking. “Does no one in this wretched town know who I am?” Despite the harshness of his words, the tone suggested it was more of a joke than an insult.
No stranger to the timbre of a voice and the general mischievousness of things, Jack was without qualm as he took a step back, laughing, and looking over the guy. “-- Uh. Well, you kinda look like this guy that temporarily killed one of my best friends and tried to shroud the world in darkness and fear, but the fact that you have eyebrows and haven’t tried to make me become one with the bumps in the night tells me you’re probably not the bogeyman. So...I know who you’re not? I mean, if it makes you feel better, I was talking to someone the other day who refused to believe I existed, even though I was right there, y’know, existing.”
‘Huh, I’m suddenly excited for Christmas. What kind of gifts does he bring? Are they personalized?’ Gansey shook the hand he was offered without thinking, a reflex he learned at the many political events and charity galas his parents had thrown or went to during his childhood. He flinched a bit at the unexpected coldness but gave the other a pleasant smile instead of mentioning it. ‘So, Jack Frost, the eighteen-hundreds? You’re pretty old then, I take it.’
“-- Nah, there’re way too many kids in the world for that. More like the yetis make a bunch of toys and North picks which one people get and stuff. It’s pretty great. But yeah, I’m dead. Technically. Drowned when I was skating with my sister, I’d tell you the exact year but I only found out that was what happened like, a year ago. But hey, what’s up, winter spirit, nice to meet you, I’m real, Santa’s real, the Easter Bunny’s real, Tooth Fairy, aaaaand Sandman. Surprise! Guessing you’re...not dead?”

“-- You’re a dumb butt, Beth. Such a dumb butt.”
Loki looked to the other in slight confusion. “I am not familiar with Earth dances, new or old. Therefore, it all looks foolish and pointless to me.”
“-- Really?” Jack leaned in conspiratorially, his eyes twinkling. “-- Where are you from?”
‘So you’re telling me that if I choose to believe you’re not lying and Santa exists, and I don’t somehow end up on the naughty list, he’ll bring me gifts this year? What did you do to be on the naughty list? And how did you manage to meet him anyway, if this Sandy character is supposed to put you to sleep?’
“-- Pretty much, yeah. That’s how it works. He’s gonna kill me for giving him extra houses to visit but hey, he enjoys it, he just doesn’t know that he enjoys it yet. As for why I’m on the naughty list? I’ve been number one on that list since the eighteen-hundreds, ever since I frosted up the Easter Bunny’s hunt with so much snow, the eggs needed to be shovelled out that one time. Which kind of answers your other question, too, I guess. As in hi, Jack Frost, you may know me from such childhood classics as that one snowball fight you have no idea who started or that one freak snow day that led to your weatherman’s temper tantrum.” Jack held his hand out for a handshake, waggling his fingers and knowing damn well that he exuded such a cold temperature that he may as well have been in a freezer.
‘ honestly at about eighteen years, if someone told me that there’s nothing left for me to experience, i’d call them out. ‘
“-- Oh my god, you’re so young. Yeah, no, you have an entire world of things to explore. Have you sledded? I mean, it seems like such an obvious thing to me, but so many people in this town have never been, it almost makes me sad.”
“I told you everything you need to know”
“-- But now I wanna knowwwwww...”
“Why should I?”
“-- Because you’re talking to me. And I’m Jack Frost. So you can’t believe one exists without believing that the other exists. I mean, that’d be crazy, right?” Jack continued to smile at her, swirling some snow around his fingers. “-- So, why should Santa be any different?”
her smile grew as she laughed lightly. she had yet to run into someone here that understood her. ‘ dangsin-eun naleul ihae? ‘ she jumped a little as she clapped her hands once. ‘ that sounds amazing! ‘
“-- Ne!” {{ tr/ko; Yeah! }} Jack grinned at her, his eyes twinkling at her delight at his understanding her language. “-- Maybe if you’re extra good this year, and you keep believing in him, he’ll drop by.”
“You started it. Not my problem if you don’t want honesty in return, man.”
“-- It’s...honesty to be inappropriate about Santa Claus?”
Loki could be found standing outside the music shop, staring into the window at the television playing a music video. The look on his face suggested he wasn’t pleased with what he was seeing. He finally broke concentration enough to stand straight again and speak to the air. “And I thought some of our dances were unusual.”
“-- Dude, totally. I guess dances have always been pretty weird, though; I still remember when it was the ‘in thing’ to act like your knees were glued together above the knee when you were dancing.”
“Oh, well, they weren’t really good guys, that’s what you should know”
“-- Well, duh, but what did they do?”
“Okay, I just don’t believe in them, I’m not really a kid anymore”
“-- Okay. That’s up to you. What I wanna know, is do you believe in me?”
’ I’m gonna pretend like I know who bunny is. But ya need to learn how to joke. ’
“-- I mean, I’ve been kicking around for over three hundred years at this point, and my literal job description is ‘make kids laugh’, so I’m just saying, I think I know how to joke.”
‘So many… How… Wait, okay, so firstly, does Santa really bring gifts to our homes? I’ve never seen him. I think I would have seen him by now if he did.’
“-- When kids are kids, he brings gifts, yeah. I mean, technically if you still believe, and you’re not on the naughty list, he’ll bring you gifts. I don’t know what happens if you’re on the naughty list, but I know I am, and he’s never brought me anything. Okay, no, he gave me a weird Russian doll of myself, but I’m not sure if that counts. Still. No, yeah, the whole point is that he doesn’t come ‘til after Sandy visits to put you to sleep, and he’s deceptively sneaky for a guy I’m not convinced isn’t half-yeti.”
