“The Stars in the Sky will have a place for you”
(The Traveler, Aether, from Genshin Impact. Beloved muse of Queen!)
Mobile links: Muse / Mun / Talents / Affiliation
Portrayal Notes:
A person’s birthday is largely irrelevant.
Not that anyone has asked him in a while (that mistake is usually made only once every few years), but there are many more significant days! “Being born isn’t anything spectacular,” He remembers saying this once – was Aether listening then? Or was it someone else entirely? “It’s not some great achievement. As for me?” His gaze cut quickly to his companion, void of light but radiant with emotion all the same. “I’m still working towards that glorious achievement. Celebrate me when I’ve earned it, will you?”
Maybe it makes him hypocritical, looking back on that conversation.
Maybe he’s grown.
“Happy Birthday, Aether,” No. That’s not right. He still feels much the same about birthdays, celebrating only his siblings, whose birth represents the brightest stars in the field of his life. He finds himself smiling something warm, where he’s tracked the Traveler all across Teyvat just to—
What? Wish him happy birthday? At the very least, he doesn’t come empty-handed, food and wine spread across the table. “It’s not all that much,” He admits. It was hard enough to track him down, harder still to plan anything. “But my siblings sent letters. Imagine my surprise! Anyway, it’d be rude of me not to deliver them to you.”
He seems like a good person, you need more of those as friends.
Brushing these thoughts away was easy. After all…he’d come all this way. Maybe Aether would reward him with a fight.
When you’re as old as some of the stars in the sky (the true ones, not the simulacrum hanging over Teyvat), the days you were born passes by quickly. What’s one more year in the face of millennia? Instead, him and Lumine had always celebrated centuries. 100 years feeling like a more significant milestone than just 365 days.
Teyvat was different. Few knew of his true age, many of them believing him to be in his teens, at most. For them, he supposed another year of existence would be a milestone. It wasn’t exactly what he was used to but.. being remembered made him happier than he’d have expected.
What surprised him though, was who ended up being among the first to congratulate him. Hearing that voice, seeing those familiar shades of red, white and dark orange, he felt himself almost reach for his blade. “Tartaglia…!” Staring at the spread before him, the traveler’s eyes twinkled like stars.
“It’s more than enough. Thank you.” A genuine smile, soft and grateful, crossed his lips. “And give your siblings my thanks too.”
“Won’t you sit with me?” He invited the other man to sit across him. Having lunch with a supposed enemy might be foolish, yet. Despite everything Aether did trust Tartaglia… Somewhat. He believed in his morals enough to know this isn’t a thinly disguised poisoning attempt.
“This is more than I could have on my own. And besides..” his expression became a tinge more playful, smile widening into something catlike. “I’d need a good workout after a big meal. Surely you’d be able to help me?” A wink followed, intentions clear.
If It Wasn't For the Nights
Angst + EVENTUAL NSFW | Dain & Aether
“You don’t like fine at all..!” The traveler’s words trailed off, observing Dainsleif’s body with clear concern reflected in those golden eyes as he did. “Tell me, Dainsleif. Tell me what’s wrong. I’ve never seen you like this before.. Is it an injury? Did that man hurt you somewhere? Or is it…” The curse, he couldn’t bring himself to say. Perhaps it was due to his mental state being more fragile than normal, but a deep fear gripped the boy’s heart.
He wanted to ask more, but Dainsleif managed to speak before he could. Despite the man’s best attempts to console him, it did very little to soothe the ever building anxiety in his chest. Somewhere deep in his mind a thought began to surface, one his subconscious self desperately tried to keep buried. It would be too painful, too cruel to realize.
“Did something happen with that girl you mentioned?”
If the mind was like an ocean, in which thoughts and emotions slowly sink to the bottom until they are finally lost to the depths, those words were like a meteor. Breaking through the surface tension and forcing that which was sinking back up.
Warmth began to prick at the corners of his eyes, a warmth he desperately tried to deny, to hold back. “…don’t worry about it. Everything turned out okay.” He lied, settling upon simple words. Because the alternative sounded even worse to Aether.
How was he supposed to tell a suffering man that he himself played a part in causing his pain?
“Are… are you sure?” Dainsleif manages to huff out, watching as Aether’s eyes start to brim with tears he seems to be holding back. Before Dainsleif can stop himself, the other man’s cheek is cupped in his hand, his thumb gently wiping away those tears with a softness that hasn’t come to him in a very long time, “You don’t have to lie to me, Aether. If the result was one you think would burden me, I can take it. I carry enough pain in my heart already; what’s a little more?”
He gets the feeling that she had something to with this, with the reason that girl had appeared before Aether here and now. Of course, with how rampant the Abyss Order had been running - the very reason he lay here now with all of his pain - and the Loom of Fate running, it went to follow that their Princess would be involved somehow. Dainsleif knew all too well the pain of having one’s sibling be a traitor to everything they stood for.
“I told you I’ll be fine. I can’t die, and…” Dainsleif trails off, staring down at the ring upon his bare hand. He knows for a fact that he has not yet told Aether of his brother’s ring, nor of its purpose. Of his brother and who he was, yes, but not of the ring. Perhaps that story is best saved for another time though. For now, all Aether needs to know if that Dainsleif will be fine, in time, “I’m more worried about you right now than myself. I know… I know I am still keeping a lot from you, but please do not feel like you have to do the same for me. You can… tell me anything that you desire to, no matter what it is.”
“I.. I don’t want you to be hurting, Dainsleif.” His voice came out shuddering and timid, a far cry from the warm confidence the traveler usually portrayed. Slender yet powerful shoulders that usually carried the weight of nations, were trembling. “Nobody deserves this, least of all you. That’s why I…”
I’m sorry. He wished to say. But he couldn’t. Instead he simply closed his eyes, leaning into the warmth of Dainsleif’s hand the warmth of tears ran down the curve of his cheeks. For all the strength and renown he had in this world.. he was afraid. He yearned for truth just as much as he feared it. Feared what it would mean. For Lumine, for Dain, for Paimon, for the world… and for himself. Up until this point he had been determined to seek it out no matter what, if it meant reuniting at last with the person who mattered so much to him.
But the more pieces of the puzzle he’s collected, the crueler of a picture it began to paint. Like brushstrokes, revealed to have been painted with blood. And how much of that blood was a direct consequence of his actions…?
“I.. want to help you.” Were the words that spilled from his lips after a moment of shuddering breaths. “I trust you. Even if you can’t tell me everything yet.” Golden eyes opened again. Though they were slightly foggy from tears, the determination in them shone through all the same. “Please.. trust me too.” Implicitly the traveler was saying that he wasn’t fully truthful either.
In a way that mirrored Dainsleif’s previous action, Aether too reached out one hand. Gently, he placed it on the man’s chest. “If it’s corruption… I think I can heal you. Maybe my purification can relieve your pain.. at least for some time.”
Twink death? No, twink live
(Protecting the Koholasaurs, Bronya Zaychik and Aether)
“R-Run!” “Too strong! Retreat!”
The poachers had reached their limit, unable to break through the defensive line that stood between them and their loot: the baby koholasaurs. Aether had created a barrier of geo to keep the Poachers away and took them head-on. Despite being on his own, and the poachers being an entire group, he had managed to hold them off. It wasn’t without a few injuries of his own though, a particularly nasty blow against his non-dominant wrist and ribs leaving bruises.
“At least… they’re safe now.” The traveler said between labored breaths. It was by pure chance that he encountered the poachers attempting to kidnap the babies- and Aether couldn’t stand for it. It wasn’t an easy battle, their sheer numbers and the fact he had to keep the babies safe meaning he had spread himself thin, but at least it was over now. When he couldn’t hear their footsteps any longer, the boy collapsed in the sand, hazy golden eyes staring up at the sky above.
Perhaps worrying about the condition of their savior, one of the koholosaurs waddled closer to him, letting out a sad whine. With a smile, Aether reached out to pet its soft head. “There there…. I’ll be fine. I’m just a bit tired.” He probably should get his injuries checked out before they heal wrong, but he couldn’t be bothered at the moment. “H-Hey..! That tickles…!” Snapping him out of his thoughts, a few other babies came closer and decided to give small licks of apparent gratitude.
Then, the rustling of leaves interrupted their little moment. Aether tensed up, and the koholosaurs huddled closer.

OOC: Mun and Muse pages added!
Hello lovely Hymners! It’s Queenie here to let everyone know I’ve added both a page about Aether, and a page about myself to the blog!
While reading the former is optional, as it mostly just contains some little fun facts about my portrayal of Aether like his hobbies and measurements, I would like to ask everyone to please do read the Mun page as in it I have also put guidelines and preferences in regards to interactions!
Thank you!
PLOTTING CALL - PRESERVATION
Hello dearest friends! With this month being less busy, I’ve come again come with plotting requests! Discord DMs preferred :)
As a note: while these are my suggestions for plot, I’m also happy to take these plotlines in other directions if you can think of something fun!
Chinju Forest Hot Springs - Aether is pretty familiar nowadays with the tricks of the Bake-Danuki, with how often they disguise themselves as treasure chests and such. So he’s not all that worried about potential dangers. That said, he’s less happy about the fact that while taking a soak his precious traveling clothes got stolen. I’m picturing a silly, lighthearted thread. Perhaps your muse is in a similar position as him? Orrr they just so happen to encounter the heroic traveler, stuck in a bathtowel. 😂
Protecting Koholasaurus hatchlings - I’d be interested in portraying the aftermath! While trying to save them was a success, there were a lot more than anticipated and Aether himself along with some of the babies got hurt in the scuffle.
Comedy Competition (Requires SoQ muse) - Aether is good at many things. Modern comedy however? Slightly less so. That’s what happens when you’re over centuries old and spend a lot of time in a vaguely medieval world.
on today's weather forecast.
commission: destruction | starter for @stellastia
“Disappearances…?” Aether noted with a hint of concern in his voice. This island’s curse had been lifted, there shouldn’t be a reason for anyone to disappear here. Not unless there was an outside influence. If there was someone hiding out here, he’d have to get rid of them quickly.
For now though, his attention shifted back to the unfamiliar girl. He noticed the way she lifted up her hands as a sign of non-aggression. In response he released the grip on his blade. She didn’t seem like a bad person so he decided to trust her sincerity, for now.
As she called out for her companion, what greeted them was silence. That was really strange, he noted to himself. “I heard two sets of footsteps.. that’s why I could assume you were with someone else. But I never heard anyone leave….”
Something strange was going on, he’s been traveling long enough to know when something was seriously wrong. “You said something about people disappearing?” He asked. “Could you tell me more about that?”
Perhaps the serial disappearances were linked to whatever could have caused the scholar to vanish as well. It was the only lead he could think of at the moment. “I’ve been on this island a few times prior.. so if there really is something going on I’d like to help out.”
“Right, two sets…the other was the scholar I was with. I don’t know where he went, though…” There was notable concern in Seele’s voice, expecting the worst out of a situation that already seemed rather hopeless and worrying to her. “The Commission Board in Inazuma City put up a warning, something about reports of adventurers disappearing, losing their sense of time, what have you from traveling on Tsurumi Island. I offered to check it out, and a scholar tagged along with me- wanted to see what was going on with the time issue. But…like I said, it seems like they’re gone now.” A frown formed on Seele’s face.
She shook her head, rather than dwelling on the concerns further. Seele needed to investigate this, she wasn’t going to go back empty handed. “Aether’s your name, you said? I’m Seele. If you can help me get around this island, that would make a world of difference.” She bowed, as a form of thanks, a habit she seemed to have picked up. “You said you've been around here a bit, are you from Inazuma?” He seriously looks like Ying, and I think she was around Natlan when I met her…so that couldn’t be it…
Seele stepped closer toward Aether, still holding some reservations as she scanned his figure, though her guard dropped ever so slightly. If he’s bad, then I’ll be able to take him out. But if he’s serious, I’d rather be with an experienced traveler than wander this island by myself. “Sorry for dragging you into my commission…you need any help with something, I’ll try my best to assist you too.”
Now she stood next to the blonde, Seele’s curiosity at its peak. She wanted to ask Aether why he would’ve ever traveled around Tsurumi Island, but she figured that he couldn’t have been here without any good reason. Not wanting to outright say ‘I’ll help you find what you’re looking for’- after all, Seele always could’ve been wrong in her assumption, she provided a vagueness in her assistance. “Please, lead the way.”
The traveler’s frown deepened slightly as Seele explained recent happenings. He had only briefly been in the city before leaving for the island, so that was probably why it was news to him. (Tsurumi was finally peaceful, so why…) It wouldn’t be right for him to ignore this. Not when people were potentially in danger. And not when the souls resting here had only just found peace.
“No need to apologize. I’m glad to help.” He said in an attempt to reassure Seele. For as long as he’s been in Teyvat, he had gotten used to helping those in need. At first it could be frustrating, but it felt good to make people happy. “I am a bit worried about this fog though… it’s not supposed to be this bad anymore.”
He then looked to the purple feather in his palm. Gently, he closed his hand around it. “If there’s any missing people on this island.. I can think of a few isolated places they might be at. How about we start there?” With those words, he began to walk. In his other hand he generated a little bit of pyro energy, a flame to light up their surroundings a bit better. (Just as I thought, this isn’t the same kind of fog….)
“Oh, to answer your earlier question… no, I’m not from Inazuma.” He explained as he kept taking careful steps. Having explored through the fog before, he’s gotten himself familiar with the islands general layout. Still, navigating with limited sight was somewhat taxing. “I’m.. a traveler, if you will. I once got a commission to explore Tsurumi island, and since then I’ve gotten familiar with this place.”
He then glanced back, looking to Seele. “What about you? I haven’t seen clothes like yours in Teyvat before..”
Mama y Papa? Mama y Papa.
(Dainsleif and Aether, Baby Otter care)
Aether listened carefully, a thoughtful expression on his face as he continued to feed the little otter in his hand. Dainsleif being so… open, wasn’t something he was too familiar with. Perhaps it was the serenity of their current situation that let it happen, as usually they met under much more stressful circumstances.
“I guess.. some things don’t change, huh?” There was a light fondness to his tone, agreeing with the sentiment. While the situation he was in made it all the more understandable, Aether did agree that Dainsleif came across as a very serious man. “Not that there’s anything wrong with it either. Part of what makes living beings so interesting is their diversity.”
It’s part of why, despite the way he found himself trapped in Teyvat, he’s still come to love the land. From the snowcapped mountains of Dragonspine to the lush forests of Sumeru, none of it was the same. Not the environments, not the cultures, not the animals and certainly not the people.
“So there’s no need to force yourself if it doesn’t feel natural. If anything that makes this moment all the more special.” As he spoke, the otter in his hand started to make small squeaks, signaling to the traveler it finished with its meal. “Hm? You’re done? Ok, then why don’t I help one of your siblings next, him?”
The boy gently put down the otter back into the enclosure, reaching for another otter that had been pawing at the glass in order to feed it next.
“Some things don’t change, that’s true,” Dainsleif can’t help but to chuckle a little at the absurdity of that statement when it came to him, and any other Khaenri’ahn in this world. They would never again change, other than their bodies slowly rotting away as time dragged ever onward, minds deteriorating and memories eroding day after day.
Some things didn’t change, and others changed completely. Dainsleif also knew that better than anyone. He stayed stagnant and the times changed around him. He had been living in this world long enough to see the tides start to change, to see the start of something shifting beginning all the way back with that tragedy.
Despite himself, Dainsleif smiles once more as Aether speaks so kindly to the small otter in his hands as if it could understand him.
“I meant it before, Aether,” He says as the otter beside him continues to greedily suckle at the bottle in his hands, “You have a certain charm about you that draws people, and as it seems, otters, to you. I cannot say for sure what that charm is though.”
“Ahaha… you think so? I dont think I’m doing anything special, honestly…” Again, pale cheeks started to gain a slightly pinkish tint at Dainsleif’s words. Playfully boasting about your own achievements is one thing. But having people actually acknowledge you and praise you is something else entirely. He still was never quite sure how to deal with it.. how embarrassing.
Still, he was grateful that Dainsleif viewed him so positively. Together with the warmth in his cheeks a gentle warmth spread to his chest as well that made it almost impossible for him not to smile. “I could say the same for you though.” He said playfully, eyes glancing downward slightly. It wasn’t hard to see how the otter in Dainsleif’s arms was just as charmed.
“Don’t get me wrong, even if some things have stayed consistent you’ve changed as well.” He stated matter of factly, as if it was a given. Because to the traveler it was. Some people believe that the longer you live the harder it becomes for you to change. Aether thought that was frankly a load of nonsense. He’s witnessed the births and deaths of many stars, yet he found himself changing a little with every day too. “Like I said before, animals can sense intentions even better than children can. And look how comfortable that little guy is with you. It’s a very different image from when I first met you, haha.”
If It Wasn't For the Nights
Angst + EVENTUAL NSFW | Dain & Aether
(Massive spoilers for 5.7 archon quest!)
“See you tomorrow.” With a warm smile and those words, Aether wished his companion a good night. But despite his own attempts to rest as well, sleep seemed to be evading him completely. How could it not, with all that had happened in the past few days?
“It’s my fault” was the thought nipping the most at the edges of his consciousness. Though he didn’t know and only wanted to be kind, his actions inadvertently caused his sister to leave Khaenri’ah when they most needed her.
He was the cause for his sister’s regret. And all those innocent people, suffering from a curse they never deserved. His sentimentalism was what let it happen.
Why did he give that key? If he never did that… maybe things would’ve been okay. Lumine was always stronger than him, if anyone could’ve avoided a cataclysm from happening it was her.
But no. She left them behind for him. And the weight of that choice was crushing her.
It was unbearable.
But he had to be strong. He didn’t want to worry Paimon with these painful feelings. Leaving her behind in the safety of their little teapot haven, Aether decided to go outside for a spell. The night sky, false though it may be, still gave him a sense of peace. He hoped some time bathed in the star’s gentle glow would bring light to his mind and heart as well.
Walking down the road, lost in thoughts, it wasn’t until he heard the sound of another living being that he stopped. Was that an animal? A person? He wasn’t sure, but it sounded like they were in pain. Looking around, the source came from a small cavern.
Wait. Wasn’t this the same cavern where…?
Shaking his head, he looked inside to see a man slumped against the wall. “…Dainsleif?” He spoke, not expecting to see him. More than that though, he never saw him so… vulnerable before. Walking closer he kneeled next to the man, brows furrowed with concern. “Hey?! What’s wrong?”
He looked to be hurting somehow, but at a glance Aether saw no visible injuries. What happened here?
Dainsleif lifts himself up wearily as a familiar voice calls out to him, forcing himself all the way upright as his head continues to pang from the strain of recalling as much as he had in one moment. Anger and pain ran through him in equal measures, and the man could barely think of the last time he had felt so tired.
It would have… had to have been after their exploration of the Chasm, the activation of that damned device, and Halfdan…
It had taken him longer then to recover from the effects of that device than he thought it would, but he would not have expected the mere act of recalling so much to drain him anywhere near to the aches he had felt then either. Perhaps he had simply exhausted himself not only in mind, but in body as he had killed his former master over and over again until he was satisfied and his grudge had been fulfilled.
“Aether…” He breathes out softly, “I… I’m fine, it is nothing that I cannot recover from. I believe I have just exhausted myself dealing with that excuse of a man. Even I will tire after hours of fighting, though it has certainly been a long time since my body has acted up in any manner such as this.”
He was luckier than most in that regard, that his body was not worse off. All because of the last kindness his brother had offered him, and even if he despised that brother of his now with all of his heart, he knew that taking it off would only make the torment he felt now worse by tenfold.
“I’ll recover,” He says, as if he is attempting to reassure himself as much as he is Aether, “With some time and rest. As for you… did something happen with that girl you mentioned? If so, it seems a lot has happened to both of us in the short time that we have been apart.”
Dainsleif forces out a chuckle, trying as hard as he can to keep his expression steady. He has his suspicions, that it was indeed not as it had seemed like he had told Aether, but he feels as though he must tread carefully.
Lest fresh wounds be reopened before they even had time to heal.
Dainsleif cannot say that he has ever felt so violated in his entire life. To have all of that pain and loss brought forth once more by reminiscing on the Khaenri’ah that he had once called home, only to have those memories used as fuel for the very thing that he tried so hard every day to prevent. Haden had… deserved every last death that Dainsleif had granted him. The chance to wipe out an entire army of the Abyss Order had been invaluable, but he cannot deny how empty and devoid of emotion his chest feels now.
A mere few faded memories in exchange for an army… it was more than a fair trade. And yet…
Being filled to the brim with rage and yet feeling terribly empty at the same is an odd mixture, the Twilight Sword remarks to himself, glove off as he fiddles with the very ring that allowed them to be able to use his memories in the first place. Because of this ring given to him by his own traitorous brother long ago, the erosion of his mind and memories slowed, the rot consuming his body staved off. He was kept alive and sane by a sinner’s artifact, memories stolen by the order of the Abyss that had corrupted that very sinner in the first place.
Dainsleif doesn’t know what to do.
Had this been back in the days of Khaenri’ah, and this anger had filled his heart, he would have gone to the Knight’s training grounds, and sliced at the training posts until they broke or he collapsed out of weariness, too tired to feel anything but the ache of his muscles. He would have gone home afterwards with his heart a little lighter and his stress staved off for a little while.
But now his head only throbs with the strain that it had taken to recall every single one of those faded memories and his body aches with the now familiar pain of his eternal curse. It seems to hurt more in the moment, the rot throbbing against his skin, and a hiss of pain he cannot help escapes his lips.
He… for the first time in a long time…
Really doesn’t know what to do.

Starlit Azure Skies
(Neuvilette & Aether)
“You don’t have a gliding license?” Aether cocked his head sideways, a curious look in his eyes. It took a moment of thought, finger pressed against his chin, before that glint changed into something more knowing. “I guess I can understand why..” After all, if you’re a being capable of flight all on your own, it makes sense a glider wouldn’t be all that relevant. It would be like Paimon getting a gliding license. Not that he’d say that out loud, when they were in a public place like this.
“But wow, if you’re watching over the exams I gotta make sure I’m bringing my A-game here. Would be embarrassing to flop right in front of you, hehe.” With a playful voice, he stuck out his tongue in a small blep. He’s gotten significantly more used to gliding compared to how he did it in the past, so he wasn’t exactly worried about the exam at this point. Still, accidents can happen and it would be very awkward if a supposed hero crashed and splashed into the waters below.
Putting his hands behind his back, he looked up to gaze at the sky. “I have a good feeling about it, though. The weather is so nice today, don’t you think? The skies are so clear, the breeze is nice, and not a rain cloud in sight. It’s perfect to go gliding!”
A smile crossed his lips as golden eyes shifted back to the tall man in front of him. “Have you ever thought of getting a gliding license, though? It’s a lot of fun, being carried by the breeze. Even if it’s not quite the same, it’s almost like flying, just for a little while…” The last part of his sentence took a slightly more wistful tone, a sigh escaping his lips.
His declaration seemed to spark some confusion and surprise at first, before settling as the Traveler appeared to realize exactly why Neuvillette did not feel a need for a Glider license. Once he did, the Iudex nodded in confirmation; the question posed prompted him to wonder for a moment, trying to reach to some past memories to answer truthfully, even if it may have been a casual, joking or rhetorical one. He still struggled to recognize these, and as such treated all inquiries with due seriousness.
"Hm, I don't recall ever thinking much of it," he finally presented as his conclusion. "Perhaps because, as you may have already noticed, the concept you call fun is still... rather foreign to me. As such, I've never thought of a Wind Glider as anything more than a method of transportation, and in that sense it is somewhat redundant for me." He paused here for a moment before adding, a hint of amusement in his tone and a sly smile on his face:
"I did, however, go through examination to determine that I do not qualify as a flying object in my airborne state."
(That was something, for sure. Alas, all are subject to the letter of the law, including - or perhaps especially - him.)
A Garde came to him with a stack of papers - reports of finished examinations thus far; upon saluting, he ran off to continue work. Neuvillette took a quick and well-trained glance, browsing them for three seconds before stacking them away and dismissing them for later. All was in order, and so they could wait until he was done with his pleasant conversation; he did not have many chances for those.
This, in conjunction with a few more participants still waiting before the Traveler's turn came about, gave the Iudex an opportunity to touch on something he took a note of - an unfamiliar emotion he sensed emanating from the young man for the first time.
"Have you wished for the ability of true flight? Or is it one you used to have, but no longer do?"
A hand moved to his lips as he let out a light giggle. “Wow, Neuvilette himself cracking a joke? Today must really be a lucky day.” He spoke in a playful, mildly teasing tone of voice. The traveler couldn’t help but continue just a little bit. “Did you also have to tie a string around your leg during the first three days? That’s how Paimon and I got out of getting into legal trouble in the past.” It was a bizarre memory and definitely one that set the stage for the kinds of laws that governed the nation of justice.
“If the opportunity ever comes though, you really should give it a shot. You’re never too old to learn new things, right? Whether that be gliding or having fun.” Enjoying his time with his companions, getting to enjoy festivals and exploring the world of Teyvat were what kept him going even when things seemed bleak. He didn’t realize it at first, but allowing himself to have fun was what kept him sane when, initially he was essentially on a wild goose chase, searching for his sister.
“As for me, um…” It seemed Neuvilette noticed his earlier tone of voice. Guess he couldn’t hide it as well..
Aether hesitated for a moment. It wasn’t something he really liked to talk about much. Even though it had been a while ago since he arrived in Teyvat for most of this worlds inhabitants, when you’re older than the stars themselves it was as if he’d lost them only yesterday.
Some people think that when you live for a long time it becomes easier to control your emotions. That wasn’t exactly true, not for Aether. When you live as long as he does, Joy might last longer..
But so does sorrow.
He leaned in a little closer, his voice softer. It wasn’t something he wanted others to hear about. “When I arrived here in Teyvat, something took away my wings.” Or someone, a part of him felt tempted to say. “So.. sometimes it’s a little awkward, realizing I can’t just take off whenever.” A slightly pained smile crossed his lips. “I guess that’s why I enjoy gliding so much.”
Neuvilette trusted him with a deeply personal detail in the past. Aether felt like he could trust the man in return.

commission: destruction | starter for @stellastia
It’s been a while since Aether had traveled to this remote corner of Teyvat. Previously a cursed island, it was now solemn, yet… tranquil. The fog no longer was like thick, overwhelming darkness, carrying whispers of the dead. It instead enveloped the island like a gentle shroud, calm and peaceful. He was glad that was still the case. A little while ago he’s heard increasing interest in this island from the people of Inazuma. The boy worried about if this would negatively affect the island where a dear friend rested.
In his palm there was a purple feather, at which Aether stared with a look of both joy and sorrow. He’s been carrying this feather around all this time, even throughout his travels in Sumeru, Fontaine and Natlan. It looked like a simple trinket to some perhaps, but to the traveler it was an item of huge emotional significance. It represented a promise he made, here on this island.
His reminiscing was cut short however as his ears picked up on the sounds of movement. In a quick movement he summoned his blade and turned to face the sound, not quite in a position to strike but nevertheless curling his fingers around the hilt. It was then that he heard the voice of a human, an unfamiliar girl a bit taller than him entering his view. Realizing the sound came from a human his stance relaxed slightly. He wasn’t sure yet if she’d be dangerous, but at least she wasn’t a rift hound.
“…Ying?” His head tilted slightly sideways, the name unfamiliar to him. “No, I’m Aether. What about you? What are you two doing here?” He asked her curiously, eyes going up and down slowly as if assessing the person in front of him. He distinctly heard two people, yet only one presented herself. She didn’t look like a treasure hoarder, in fact she didn’t look at all like someone from Teyvat. An outlander like him, perhaps?
Seele paused, an involuntary quiet mutter escaping her lips. “But you look just like her…” Shaking her head, Seele chose to focus on the traveler’s words. He clearly said ‘you two’. This guy definitely knows that the scholar is here too, or at least someone’s with me.
Her eyes scanned the traveler before her- he had a unique sense of style, even compared to how she’s seen others from Teyvat dress. Seele didn’t wanna assume that he hadn’t been from here- after all, maybe he just came from a nation Seele hadn’t set foot in. He could’ve been from Natlan, Sumeru, or Snezhnaya, those were reasonable options. But she couldn’t worry about them immediately either- she needed to come up with an answer.
Honesty would be her golden ticket- if this traveler posed a threat, then she could cut him down instead. “I’m with an Inazuman scholar- we’re investigating the disappearances on Tsurumi Island. Do you know anything about them?”
Her question was blunt and to the point, an attempt to cull any potential misunderstanding before they could arise. Seele would rather maintain a ‘no-nonsense’ approach to the matter, rather than allow any room for issue. Seele stepped forward, hands up, trying her best to pose as non-threateningly as she could manage to. “I told the scholar with me to stand back, I didn’t want him to get caught in any crossfire in case you were one of the monsters I was warned about when I took the commission.”
She glanced back, calling out for her ally. “Hey, you still there?” Silence had been the answer returned to her. “Hey!” And still, silence remains. A sigh escaped her lips. Is he gone? Did he run off? Or are we trapped in the fog now…?
Starlit Azure Skies
(Neuvilette & Aether)
@iustitians
Out of all of Teyvat’s nations, Aether was perhaps most partial to the weather of Fontaine. The skies were sunny and clear, a gentle breeze preventing it from becoming too warm. As a result, the ocean below shimmered with a light glow of the morning sun. Really, the weather was perfect for today’s activities.
Perhaps it was due to a recent increase in gliding related incidents, but for whatever it was decided that a new exam was to be held for all holders of a gliding license. It was to be held all across Teyvat, and by pure happenstance Aether was in Fontaine at the time. Perhaps though that was a stroke of good fortune. The fair weather made for a safer environment, and if any incidents were to happen he’d just fall into the ocean rather than becoming a shiny splat on the ground.
As he checked up on his glider, a beautiful pair of pale golden wings with a musical motif, he couldn’t help but reminisce slightly. The reason he chose these in particular was that they reminded him a little of his own wings. A sigh escaped his lips. He missed being able to fly on his own.
“No, come on. No point thinking like that.” The boy tapped his cheeks with both hands, trying to snap himself out of his negative thoughts. He should be grateful that gliding was a common practice in Teyvat, letting him experience a similar sensation even if it wasn’t entirely the same.
Waiting for his own turn to arrive, the traveler curiously glanced around, wondering if anyone he knew would be taking the exam today as well.
Golden eyes very quickly then spotted perhaps the person he expected to see the least, as standing there was Fontaine’s very own Chief Justice. “Neuvilette?” Aether approached the man, curiosity and joy both evident by the light up-curve of his lips, his previous melancholy no longer visible. “What a surprise to see you here! Have you come to take the re-examination too?”
The recent days have brought a stream of good weather to Fontaine - or, at any rate, the human definition of such. As far as Neuvillette was concerned, a bit less sun and a bit more moisture would not hurt anyone, but of course, these were his personal thoughts that he could not really disclose to most people, and certainly not out loud. After all, they did not befit the definition of a "normal person".
... Setting aside the philosophical question of what defined normalcy, he supposed that, at the very least, this weather was beneficial to the recently announced and organized activities of utmost importance. Adventurers, Gardes and other people from all walks of life - everyone in possession of a Wind Glider license had gathered on the hills and mountains not too far from the Court of Fontaine to retake their examination, as ordained by the authorities and approved by his own hand. Fontaine was not the nation that had recently seen the highest number of unfortunate incidents or dangerous circumstances that led to increase in safety measures, but when the news reached them, joining the trend was a foregone conclusion.
As he walked around, chatting with an organizer here and there, a familiar head of gold caught his attention and brought a faint smile to his face - just as he, too, was noticed in turn.
"Traveler," he greeted, coming closer. "Good to see you. I see you're preparing to renew your license?..."
The youth's presence here, in conjunction with the decorative Wind Glider by his side, gave his question a somewhat rhetorical note; when it was reflected on him, however, he shook his head.
"Oh, no. I'm just a part of organizing and inspecting the area and the examinations, for the purpose of order and safety." He paused there, then stirred, realizing the unspoken question still hanging in the air after his previous words.
"I never had a license, so there is no re-examination for me to take."
Mama y Papa? Mama y Papa.
(Dainsleif and Aether, Baby Otter care)
“Oh!” Eyes of gold widened slightly, as reflected in them was an unusual sight. “You’re smiling..” Aether didn’t intend to say it out loud, his words breathy and barely a whisper. He couldn’t recall the last time he saw the man with such a gentle expression.
The blonde traveler couldn’t help but mirror his expression. It seemed as if even the twilight sword wasn’t immune to the charms of innocent newborn animals. The sight was, honestly, kind of adorable. It humanized the swordsman further in the way Aether hadn’t had the chance to see previously. “I like it. It’s a nice smile.” He stated warmly, a little caught up in the moment.
…wait what?
“A-Anyway, as for tasks…” Quickly his attention darted to the paper on the wall that the researcher pointed out to him earlier, trying to ignore the embarrassing way he reacted just a moment ago. “Do you think you could help me with feeding them?“ One of the otters stubbornly stayed on his shoulder, entranced by the slight glimmer of his earring, apparently. Despite that he walked over to the nearby table where a few bottles were laid out with nubs for the otters to drink from. “We just have to give them one bottle each.”
To show an example he grabbed the otter on his shoulder, holding it gently in his hand. Then Aether allowed the otter to give the bottle a few sniffs before it started to drink. “As long as you don’t tilt the bottle back too far, it should be okay.”
Dainsleif cannot help the red that comes to his cheeks, almost stumbling directly into the pool he still kneels by. Shocked, he turns to Aether with mouth agape, expression more startled than it had been in a great many years. He quickly shakes off the start, old instincts not allowing himself to be caught off guard for more than a moment - when one hesitated for a moment too long on the battlefield, they would find themselves slain in little more than an instant - quickly snapping to attention.
“I can do that,” He nods solemnly, standing from where he kneels to go grab one of the bottles himself. The otter that had been bumping against his hand follows dutifully after him like a lost puppy, barking up at him cheerfully. And he smiles again softly down at it, kneeling down to it once he grabs the bottle, gently offering its nub to the small creature.
“I think…” He starts carefully, thinking back on Aether’s words a mere moment ago, “You are the first person in a very long time to say I have a nice smile. The memories are not so clear anymore, but my brother…”
He chokes a little on the words, their childhood lost amongst the eroding tide of his past memories, but he can still barely recall a time when Vedrfolnir had not been the Visionary, and instead had just been his older brother.
“He used to say I was too serious,” The otter at his feet mewls for more from the bottle, the Twilight Sword eagerly offering it to it as a distraction from his troubled past, “that I needed to smile more. Though, if I can recall, that was when I was older, when I had already become a proper knight.”

Tsurumi Island had given Seele a general sense of unease, the sense of dread that she felt upon setting foot on the island only exacerbated her feelings. A quick glance at the scholar that Seele traveled with gave the young butterfly a brief pause. “I really should’ve asked before taking the time to do this – but are you sure it was a good idea for you to come with me?”
The scholar gave a warm smile alongside a wave of his hand. “It should be fine. Besides, you also wanted to figure out the island’s mystery, no?”
Seele shook her head, “still, for an ordinary person isn’t this really dangerous?” The scholar laughed at her concern, making Seele feel a bit small. “You don’t bear a Vision, Miss Seele. As far as I’m aware, you’re as normal of a person as I.”
There was silence between them as they marched forward. Seele wanted to clap back at the scholar’s response, tell him that she was anything but normal, yet she felt herself forced to concede. Her clothes may have looked out of place, but the people of Teyvat (for the most part) generally took her as a strangely dressed girl from some place called Snezhnaya. Seele didn’t wanna break the illusion, especially since she didn’t know how generally well received outlanders had been to the layperson.
As they traversed further, Seele spotted a figure in the distance, instinctively holding out her arm to stop the scholar from moving further. He gave her a look, a questioned look as he opened his mouth to speak, but Seele quickly shut that down. “Shh!”
Her gaze strayed into the fog, as that figure (whom at a glance she could assume was her height; it was difficult to tell, for the fog obscured her vision) had been walking in her direction. “Hold it, stop moving! Who are you?”
Glancing at the scholar, Seele mouthed a ‘stay here’, before walking forward herself. As the figure in the fog slowly came into view, Seele’s eyes widened as she caught sight of golden blonde hair. “Ying? Is that you?”
