Final Project - Outfit Design
I thumb-nailed 16 designs for each of the characters, and researched particular fashion styles and looks for the individuals. The outfits whose numbers have a red dot next to them are ones that I used when designing the final costumes.
For the first character, I already had their weapon in mind, which would be a modified chainsaw, so I drew inspiration from ‘lumberjack fashion’. This style focuses on plaid/tartan-patterned clothing, thick and protective items for outdoor work, and heavy boots.
Next, I chose to look at ‘lolita’ fashion, a Japanese subculture which primarily uses white and pink colours, which are this character’s symbolic colours. To add some defense when fighting monsters, I also added hints of knight armour, such as breastplates or gauntlets.
The third girl’s backstory is that she is from a family of tailors, so I wanted her outfit to be more refined and detailed. I researched South Asian fashion, in particularly Indian dress, which are known for bright vivid colours and extravagant patterns. I also looked at armour from the same area to fit with the costume.
Finally, since I knew I wanted this character to be an archer, I looked at both medieval clothing and fantasy outfits, which would also tie into her satyr/faun-like appearance. On this particular sheet, my partner who studied costume design aided me, and drew outfits 7-10.
