“Of c-course not.” Austin said, “D-do you want to hold her or should I put her back in her c-cage? Then we c-can watch a film and order in s-some food or something?”

“I think I am going to pass on the holding the rodent thank you very much,” Sterling wrinkled his nose, ignoring the feeling of his phone vibrating in his pant pocket, “How date night of us. What film are we watching?”

“T-true I guess, Lu’s got the other t-two in the z-zoo for me. Saoirse, she’s       c-called, it’s Irish.” Austin smiled and slowly exhaled, glad that Stirling had neither yelled nor run out.

“An Irish guinea pig, of course. She’s not going to be running around out of her cage is she? Cause I am not tolerating her the second she chews through anything I own.”

“Okay, they’re none of my business and need an ice pack,” Chris pointed out, heading to the kitchen to grab one before Sterling complained. Again.

“If they weren’t your business I don’t see why you’d know they need an ice pack,” Sterling grumbled, though he didn’t put a lot of effort into stopping his friend. It wouldn’t work anyway, and Sterling didn’t want to waste the energy.

Sterling turned his head so that the dark bruises on the right side of his face was away from the prying eyes, “It’s non of your business. That’s what it is.”

“It-It’s me…” Austin said nervously, “Y-yes I got the guinea pig. B-but you’re so stressed and n-not around you b-barely noticed. I thought being h-here might help y-you slow down for an evening.”

Sterling sighed at the sight of the boy and another pet. “At least you got a normal pet this time.... what did you name the thing?”

Chris dropped his smile to glare at the other for a second. “Bite me.” He then shrugged, relaxing a little more again. “No, just curious. I know I haven’t… I’ve been focused on catching up and I haven’t seen you guys so much. And you know, the doctors just love me. Wanna keep up my wonderful existence, naturally.”

“That could be arranged, I’m sure that boyfriend of yours wouldn’t mind sharing for a little bit,” Sterling teased, not at all bothered by the other’s glare - Sterling had evoked far worse from other people. “Well I find Doctors prefer to keep people existing and all of that. It’s kind of what they’re paid to do. Well, I’m not sure what Jesse is up to, but you haven’t missed much with me. While my life is usually fabulous I can’t say there’s much to report.”

“Aaah okay, good to know,” Chris settled, wiggling his eyebrows at the other whilst crushing his fists in his pockets as an attempt to stop the shaking. “I may be barely tolerable, but at least I’m yours,” he shot back with a wink. “Have you uh… Spoken to Jessica lately? Shit uh, I mean… Jesse?”

Sterling gave the hands in the boys pockets a thoughtful gaze, “Yes, Jesse. I should get you a book to start putting good job stickers in.  Talked to her a week or so ago - You just curious or have you two decided to bicker again?”

“Ah, now it’s my stupid head? But what about the pretty face part!” He exclaimed, smiling a little wider as the other found his feet again. “What brings you down this end of the fish bowl then?”

“Any pretty face you might have is completely out weighted by the stupid so,” Sterling shrugged his shoulders, scuffing the ground with his feet, “A little birdie told me I might find my barely tolerable idiot down here. Thought I’d walk and see if it was true.”

Piper: Well...that was so much more than Sterling mean.

Piper: I only want to listen to you.

Piper: Sterling, I know we're not close or very friendly with each other but you don't have to deal with things alone. I mean, you're already snapping at people more than usual.

Sterling: Maybe I've just decided to increase my usual charm. Are you saying you don't find me charming? I'm hurt.

Caiden: Then it must be true.

Caiden: Are you saying that I need to hope and pray in order to meet you?

Sterling: I'm saying it couldn't hurt darling.

Caiden: Well, nice to meet you Sterling.. maybe one day i'll actually get to meet you in person.

Sterling: So I've been told.

Sterling: Perhaps if you pray and hope hard enough one day you'll get the honour.

“Sterling, I do believe you just called me both cool and pretty. Are you feeling quite alright?” He asked, skating over and coming to a stop just in front of the other.

“I believe you’re hearing things because I don’t know why I would do either of those things. It would go straight to your stupid little head and basically make you unbearable.”

“Gah, shit…” Chris mumbled as he regained his balance, before grinning to himself. He’d forgotten a lot of things after the accident, and though most of it had come back, not all of it had. So being able to do this trick was a good feeling. Seeing a familiar face, he smiled, shoving his hands deep into his pockets so they didn’t see how they were shaking still. He was getting by though, he’d only broken his cold turkey streak twice now, his last cigarette two weeks ago now.

“Well look at Mr. Cool on his... skateboard and... whatever. I have to say I think I would have been more amused if you had fallen on your pretty little face.”

Sterling: Change that annoying to all the time and I'll believe you. And go be all ears to someone who actually wants a pair.

Sterling: Well that's a shame. I have it on good authority I'm very attractive. You're missing out.

Serena looked over at the stranger as he spoke, raising a brow at him. “Nah, I’m having problems with my dad,” she responded with a roll of her eyes. “But thanks for your concern.”

“Ahh Daddy issues, far more sexy, or so I’m told.” Sterling grinned, shuffling a little closer. “Aw, you’re so very very welcome. I’m just such a caring person - just couldn’t help myself.”

“Yeah, maybe. I’ll have to think about it, okay? …I gotta go mom. I love you, too,” Serena said quietly to her laptop before closing out the Skype call and taking her ear buds out. She let out a sigh as she leaned back against the tree, her mind wandering as she thought about the conversation she just had.

“Problems with Mommy?” Sterling wasn’t usually one to get involved with other people, but he was in a mood that day and figured that he might make himself feel better of he was a bit of a twat to someone else for a few hours.
