Behind The Scenes of TWD: Daryl Dixon - The Book of Carol Le Paradis Pour Toi [šø: FranƧois-Ćric Gendron]
Just an aside⦠Melissa McBride in Daryl Dixon: The Book of Carol made me cry with pride and amazement. Thanks to Melissa, Carol is such a well-rounded, intelligent and relatable character. Even in her darkest moments, you feel her pain and you understand her motivation. McBrideās own inner light shines through at all times. It is the āAlchemyā Andrew Lincoln once described. Her talent is rare and beautiful. All we need now is for S3 Daryl to shine as brightly as we know he can.
Can you imagine?!

Daryl Dixon doesn't do relationships and he certainly doesn't date.Ā But what if there was someone out there that would turn his world upside-down and end up changing his mind?
At last, the final chapter!

Something that would make me feel a lot more secure about Caryl's future is a showrunner who understands their relationship as deeply as we do and can easily convey that in the show as well as in the media. All this money was presumably spent on making the show look good, but if there's one thing Caryl fans aren't, it's superficial. The story has to grip us, which means the showrunner has to deliver the romantic beats we want in ways that will allow Carol and Daryl to grow together. She (because a female showrunner can write for strong female characters like Carol and speak to the growing number of female viewers with money to spend) has to balance a strong character narrative with an external plot that feels grounded despite all the zombies. That's what made the first few seasons of TWD work so well. That's where the money should go. The writing. AMC should also take note of how excited Caryl fans were to see Melissa get that EP title. We trust her voice. A lot. We trust her instincts. A lot. We would trust her choice in a showrunner, so maybe she should have a big say, and maybe she should even get the chance to co-showrun. Thatās a Caryl spinoff Iād come running for.
Gotta admit it feels like a huge relief to see Carol back on my screen again! Knowing she is out there laser focused on finding Daryl and being Carol-esque about everything, is like balm for the soul after so much uncertainty.
Donāt get me wrong, this is still TWD with some of the same idiotic choices. There will always be a fear that they donāt do her character justice, because thatās the way these middle-aged white-men-in-charge, roll. As long as they make it clear that Carol hasnāt wasted her time trying to rescue a man that no longer needs to be rescued!?! Due to some of the inexplicable writing choices, the mere possibility of the impact of their reunion being diluted in any way, distresses me. Like whatās with the flat-pack family heās been saddled with? I know they needed him to form some sort of attachments in the time he was there⦠but š ??? Iām not sure I could make it over to France from Scotland in the time itās taken him to adopt that kid and his aunt. Who they should remember is A NUN! š
Anyway, CAROL is back and right now thatās what matters, well, that and reuniting her with her soulmate. Their chemistry should be allowed to do itās thing now, itās what wins people over and has been doing so for over a decade (instead of whatever hatchet job they did in S11ā¦Seriously!)
Hopes are higher this time around though. The Book of Carol and what a tale it will be. I also rather like that tagline from the teaserā¦š

Romantic Caryl
Not just a dealbreaker, THE dealbreaker. If youāre asking me what I want, I want Carolās hero arc, I want Norman and Melissa to have equal billing, I want Carolās name in the title (or a title that encompasses their shared journey), and I want UNAMBIGUOUS romantic canon. If itās ambiguous, if there is any room for interpretation, if I or anyone offscreen has to convince me that we got canon, that doesnāt work.
Youāll recall that the āI love youā scene got mixed reactions. If Iāve learned something from marketing anon, that means AMC missed the mark and feeding us the same slop and calling it a meal as someone else put it will not maximize the impact AMC needs to launch the show into more seasons.
Romantic canon is the thing. Itās the desire, itās the light at the end of the tunnel, itās what Caryl fans aka the target audience are waiting for and shouldāve gotten at the end of S11. I donāt need a S3 to tell me Daryl and Carol are best friends. I already know that. It will always be true. They were written to be MORE than that. Honor that. Let the characters grow. Ā
Iām not subscribing for S2 and I will not watch past S2 if unambiguous canon is not delivered in S2. The reunion is the perfect opportunity. Use it. Not lowering my standards on that one no matter how many gimmicks are used to try to placate us. Carolās on Darylās bike. Great. IF it leads to canon. Also, if youāre going to go to great lengths to bait Carylers (i.e. that bathtub shit), go to great lengths to pay it off (i.e. Caryl bath time).
Audience and story integrity over personal interests and baggage (š¤Øš¤Øš¤Ø) EVERY time.
