Janet Guthrie (b. 1938) is a retired professional race car driver. She was the first woman to compete in the Indianapolis 500 and Daytona 500, which she only achieved in 1977, after significant obstacles on account of her gender.
She began her racing career in 1963, and competed in the 1976 World 600 as the first woman in a NASCAR Winston Cup speedway race. She was also an aerospace engineer who worked for Republic Aviation.
