Diego and Vanya Hargeeves The Umbrella Academy Season 1 and 2
I keep thinking about what Diego did in the finale with the bullets.
Diego’s ability always sort of baffled me, because the mechanics behind it are unknown, all we knew was that he was adjusting an object’s trajectory in mid air. I always wondered what the limits on this kind of ability were? We have gotten proof now that it has nothing to do with him throwing it. When the agents all fired, he caught them in midair and forced their trajectory sideways.
This revelation hit me like a ton of bricks, and I have no idea why nobody else is talking about it. Because it’s obvious that Diego has what seems to be a form of telekinetic ability. Now he might not be able to lift things that are not in motion, that’s why I think he only uses it when throwing things. An object already in motion might be easier for him to correct, but regardless, he is using some sort of ability to alter their movement.
Even his landing in the first episode, that’s not just him being THAT bitch (I mean he is that bitch, but that’s another story entirely). The others landed pretty hard, so I’m thinking that Diego has learned how to alter the impact of his own body by not only regular training but also with his ability.
The possibilities this could open him up to are amazing. If he jumps from a building, could he then alter his trajectory at the last second and decrease the force impact so that he could land on his feet from large heights? Could he have Luther throw a car at him and he launch its trajectory somewhere else??? If he’s altering trajectory and impact, the force of which things move, could he then reverse this impact, giving him the ability to levitate objects or even himself???
Look, I don’t read the comics or even really want to. And I know these possibilities are unlikely but you have to admit that the scene with the bullets changes the game for Diego. I think they all might have a lot to learn about themselves, Five is still perfecting time travel, Vanya is learning about how she can use her powers for good, Klaus is learning to manifest and use spirits. Who’s to say Diego doesn’t have something up his sleeve?
Ben Hargeeves + the Hargreeves siblings
I love this scene so much. Bc the answer is always "i had seven brothers" or "my father wanted a son" and i'm sick of it
some people keep saying that five is such a cold, unfeeling character, and sure he's shown that he can be from time to time, but let's not forget that he also
told luther that he was still a young man and five would hate to see him waste his life
reminded diego in his own way of what he loved best about eudora patch, and that murdering her killers would never be the way she wanted to be honored
told allison that if ever they got out of the apocalypse alive, he would be honored to meet his niece, therefore making her smile
was the only one to recognize that klaus had time-travelled, continuously asked him for his help all throughout season 1, and even told him about his first love, delores
shouted ben's name worriedly upon seeing the ruins of the academy in the bad future
reminded vanya that "rapists can climb" and that she should lock her windows at all times, and that she was the only one he could trust because he knows she will always listen to him, no matter how much time they've spent apart
outright said that as shitty as their family used to be, he still tried everything just to get back to them
loved delores so much that he carried her around for four decades, and as soon as he got back to 2019, immediately went to her department store display and admitted that he missed her a lot
said "pogo?" in the smallest voice ever and tried to give him a hug, despite making it pretty clear in the past that he doesn't exactly encourage being touched
was the only sibling whose room vanya didn't blow up because he was always nice to her, even though he was extremely powerful and she was, for all they knew, ordinary
always made his siblings feel like he was better than them--and knows it--but was sensitive enough to never make vanya feel like anything less than a wonderful human being
was outright called vanya's "sole confidante" and the only one she would perform her new violin pieces for
never wanted to harm vanya outright, even though he knew that she would always be the reason the apocalypse happens, and insisted that they take her with them so they could finally start treating her right instead
told vanya that her concerns and love for sissy and harlan were valid, and that no one is insignificant
pushed luther out of the way of a crumbling ceiling, despite the fact that luther could take it and he was already bone-tired from killing the board and dealing with the after-effects of paradox psychosis
was already dying of multiple gunshot wounds by the end, but one look at his family's cooling bodies gave him enough strength to rewind time so they could have another shot at going back to the present and being an actual family
and in conclusion, is basically a grumpy old man who just has so much love for his family that the idea of getting back to them gave him enough strength to survive not one but two freaking apocalypses, one after the other, and come out more or less victorious by the end
simply incapable of picking a favourite sibling duo. luther and diego’s absolute idiocy. allison and klaus being soft. five being absolutely done with luther. all of them coming thru for vanya. klaus and ben’s continual bickering. unparalleled. i love all of them so much
has anyone else noticed that diego has a habit of holding people’s faces between his hands, especially if he cares about them very much?? like he does it multiple times to klaus, to ben when he was possessing klaus, to lila right before they sleep together, etc. and i don’t know about you but i think that’s just very soft of someone who claims to be as much of a hardass as he does
literally no difference between ellen page’s clothes and vanya’s outfits. ellen page just showed up on set wearing whatever she wanted to and the director was like yes that is perfectly gay enough you may proceed
still not over ben asking vanya to hug him in the shyest, most hesitant manner possible, and the way she’s like are you fucking kidding me benjamin come here, and just yanks him into the tightest hug he will ever receive in both lifetimes combined because after all the time they’ve spent apart he’s still looking out for her and this is the goodbye they should’ve always had i’m sorry i am still in p a i n
I’m not Klaus, I’m Ben
My man looks gorgeous
no more numbers. no more bullshit. we’re Team Zero
WAIT what if dave from 1968 remembers klaus from 1963.... what if he remembers klaus telling him when he's going to die and thats why he gives klaus his dog tags before they go on that mission.. what if that's why he doesn't question it when klaus arrives... because he remembers and he knows and suddenly it all makes sense
season 2 luther apologizes to vanya instead of sweeping it under the rug because she doesn’t remember and you can pry his character growth out of my cold dead hands
About Five and Vanya
Yknow what gave me feels when rewatching season 1 of Umbrella Academy? Episode 10, when Vanya tears down the Academy.
She walks through all their rooms and sees her siblings, their younger versions, dismissing her, telling her off and treating her like shit.
The only one of them she doesn't see? The only one who's not mean to her? The one she doesn't blow up alongside the house?
Five.
What I'm saying is Five was probably the one person alongside Pogo and Grace in this house who treated Vanya decently and that gives me fucking feels. You could even argue to cut out Pogo and Grace and say he's the only one, cause the two knew how Reggie manipulated her but didn't do anything.
So yeah when Five disappeared, the academy probably turned into hell on earth for Vanya.
That and knowing how soft he's with her, in the very first episode and all through season 2, Vanya being the one he looks at before he decides to storm off, the first one he calls out for when he gets stuck in the apocalypse...
I'd even go as far as say he could've calmed Vanya down when she was going all White Violin and world destruction mode. But he didn't try. Because he was more fixed on stopping the apocalypse, saving the lives of billions than the life of his sister. Because killing is the way he's always taken when fixing the timeline and there wasn't really the time to consider other options in the concert hall.
Also their show off in season 2? I'm crying it was so amazing? Pitting the actual two most powerful and dangerous members of the academy against each other and so underlining their positions in regards of power? It's even canon that they are the most dangerous of the bunch. Just imagine what would happen if those two ever turned out enemies. A whole fucking mess.
Look at their social skills I'm crying.
I also can't but wonder what would've happened if Five hadn't disappeared. If Vanya would've turned out any different. Maybe she would've felt more at home with him. Maybe she wouldn't have written the book. Maybe Five would've defended her from Reggie and the others.
Maybe in season 3, if the Sparrow Academy actually consists of the original squad but differently aged, Vanya is part of the team. And maybe her and Five are really fucking good together.
I need more Vanya and Five as kids. More of how they were at the same age. I feel like something of their relationship got lost because Five is older than her now, more taking on the big brother part than anything else, and given the fact both of them grew up separately under wildly different circumstances after the age of 13, that's of course completely reasonable.
But it makes me want those interaction even more.
GIVE ME FIVE AND VANYA.
if there’s one thing i absolutely adored about five this season, it’s that he went from somebody who didn’t give a fuck about murdering an innocent gardener (just because he was a potential catalyst for the apocalypse in season one), to somebody who outright says that no one is insignificant, not even a mother and her son whom he hasn’t even met yet, and the way he says it is nothing but gentle and understanding, and that, ladies and gentlemen, is peak character development right there and your faves could n e v e r
can we just appreciate the fact that diego literally went from straight-up loathing vanya and insulting her to her face to:
getting mad because he’s worried for her after hazel and cha-cha attack the mansion in 1X03 and she gets hurt
arguing with luther for her sake after their brother locks her away
literally being struck speechless by the sight of her playing the violin so well during her concert
agreeing to take vanya back to the past with them because he knows it’s his duty as her big brother to stick by her no matter what
acknowledging the fact that her apology means something to him with no fuss whatsoever the next time they see each other in the 1960s
fighting tooth and nail to get to her after her meltdown at the FBI headquarters, not only because she’s going to cause doomsday yet again, but also because he’s worried sick about her
gently telling her that her problems concerning sissy and harlan are valid, it’s just that they’ve got bigger things to worry about right now
being genuinely sorry that he can’t help her out
having her back just when she thinks she’s gonna have to do everything by herself again
and finally, letting her rest against him–and he against her–at the end of what has obviously been a physically and emotionally draining day for all of them, i mean c’mon guys the character development of their sibling bond is just unparalleled
