Irene and I attended the opening of their exhibition for SWEAT, the Sex Workers Education and Advocacy Trust last night at the Iziko Slave Lodge museum in Cape Town. It consists of 9 Portrait taken by us paired with some photos taken by the participants after a two day workshop on photography. It is spaced over three rooms and includes an hour long documentary made by us where different sex workers describe their daily routines and the places they inhabit. Two weeks ago, the day after my birthday I fell while cycling on an innocuous piece of gravel. After my mate Anton came to drop me off at the hospital I was diagnosed with the usual broken clavicle (the cyclist worst friend) but worse was the shattered radius (arm bone behind your thumb) that was splintered to bits. A quick 6hr op took out all the loose splinters from arm and put an exo-fix on my arm to space my elbow and wrist temporarily. My clavicle, broken in two places was plated with 9 screws. I then left the hospital to spend two weeks at home being grumpy with the exo grating on my bones. This Thursday I was admitted to hospital again where the stellar Dr Strauss (a fellow biker although he had recently switched to orange from a bmw gs) in a 4hr op the took bone from my right thigh to transplant it to my arm underneath the plate they put in to strengthen my arm and help the bone to grow back. Thanks for everyone who phoned me or the wife in the last few weeks to give support or help. I have a long rehab road ahead and my bike has been put away for a while and my #bmwgs1200 is staying under a tarp for a while too. But challenges are there to be surmounted and i think I should be back behind a camera in 3 weeks.
