So of the two people in the entire USA that are currently breeding Ultramarine (think, peacock with the blue cranked to 13), the one I'm not friends with has just listed up a 2024 cock for auction. It's going to be interesting to see the end price, as this will determine the 2025 price of the mutation (and its rate of decline, as last year was the first year any were available ever).

Last year the auction ended at $6,800 for one male. In a really funny (to me) twist, he sent a blue to the winner instead of an ultramarine, because despite gloating that he was able to tell and my friend wasn't, he couldn't tell the difference in yearlings, either. It'll be EXTREMELY FUNNY if he does the same fuckin' thing this year. (and he did replace the bird, so the winner got the right bird eventually, it was just. very embarrassing for the self-proclaimed leader of peafowl breeding to be so wrong after bragging so much).

But they look almost exactly the same as blues when they're babies, and only start to really look different as 2yo birds.

So, it'll be interesting to watch go down again.

There's also a listing on here for UM feathers, I believe he's selling a dropped train, but I'm not sure of the number of feathers included in the lot, so maybe ask before spending a lot.

Singer of Sorrows ✨ Started this portrait of Aylin over a year ago and randomly remembered that I never finished it. Well, now I have. ____________ To elaborate - I’m trying to wrap up a bunch of WIPs that have been lying around, gathering metaphorical dust. That’s the goal. Heavy blackouts are back after the latest russian attack on our energy infrastructure. Their goal of freezing Ukrainians this winter seems to be the main objective right now, so I don’t know how much electricity we’ll have in the near future. I’m trying to use what I can while I still can. Of course, we hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. I have to keep talking about it, because it’s not even news anymore. My Halloween costume this year!! I finally mostly finished my interpretation of @mayakerns ballerina chimera Falin design! There’s a few more things I want to do to make it fully fleshed out (like a tail and finish the gloves and my wig) but I’m super happy how it turned out!

The feathers are all hand applied and I lost count after 2000 XD I would say total it was about 50 hours and most of it was the feathers ahaha

the shoes are a wedge heel that I covered in this absolutely perfect fabric I got from Joanns last year. They are rhinestone’d with these tiiiiiiny stones (I burned myself with my glue gun so much) and I made the claws with hot glue. You draw your shape onto some aluminum foil or a silicone mat and then just build up the glue into your shape. Kinda like a proto 3D pen.

The skirt is a full circle skirt that I applied the feathers to from the bottom up and I regretted about halfway through gluing the feathers making such a full skirt but it looks really good so it was worth it I guess ahaha

The bodice is power mesh and a bra that I used to shape my feathers and I think the hardest part was not burning my boobs as I hot glued above the bra line

The legs are actually thigh highs because this fabric doesn’t have a lot of stretch. Well they’re magic thigh highs because the top is chub rub shorts and I sewed them to the shorts while I was wearing them which was a both a good and a bad idea for obvious reasons.

The necklace was just pearls and red glass beads to look like blood and I’m pretty proud of it.

Honestly I’m super proud of the whole thing it was a lot of work but I had a lot of fun making it!
