not sure if this has been said before but, headcanon: remus doesn't just smoke for fun, but also to alleviate some of the side effects of lycanthropy, like pre-moon anxiety and post-transformation pain. also transformation pain. imagine remus getting hella baked before he transforms and madam pomfrey being like look kid, i don't blame you, but it's time to go to the willow and you're wearing a lampshade on your head and giggling
